Professor ZHOU Yun-xian's clinical experience of acupuncture combined with Chinese material medica for xerophthalmia is introduced. Her treatment for xerophthalmia is firstly focused on syndrome differentiation, indicating that different syndrome has different treatment of acupuncture and Chinese material medica. It is emphasized that by following the holistic concept of TCM, the local acupoints and whole-body acupoints cooperate closely, forming her special combination method of acupoints. In clinic, attention is focused on the application of many acupuncture techniques and extra points. With the combination of acupuncture and Chinese material medica, the treatment is flexible with superior clinical efficacy.

AIM: To analyze the pathogenic bacteria and drug sensitivity in cases of canalicular inflammation.
●METHODS: Lacrimal sac secretion from 57 cases ( 57 eyes) with canalicular inflammation. used to do bacterial cultures and drug sensitivity tests. Grind open the sulfur particles from canaliculus for bacterial smear.
●RESULTS:After squeeze canalicular, there are 56 sulfur granules from 57 patients. All of the Sulfur particles smears were found in actinomycetes. A total of 55 from 57 cases of lacrimal secretions for bacterial culture were positive, and 63 strains were cultured. The main pathogen are Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus viridans and pneumococcus. Drug susceptibility test results showed that:rifampicin, cefoxitin, chloramphenicol, and mezlocillin are sensitivity.
●CONCLUSION:Actinomycetes were the main pathogens to canalicular inflammation, and most of the presence of co- infection with other bacteria. Rifampin, cefoxitin, chloramphenicol, and mezlocillin are sensitivity canalicular inflammation.

α-Hederagenin (H), derived from Hedera nepalensis var.sinensis, is a pentacyclic oleane-type triterpenoid that exhibits clear cytotoxicity to different tumor cell lines. In this study,a series of novel C-28 derivatives of hederagenin (H) were designed and synthesized in attempt to develop potent tumor resistance reverse activities agents. Previous research showed that H6 displayed robust reverse activity for paclitaxel resistance in KBV cells. Importantly, Co-treatment of paclitaxel with H6 significantly reduced the tumor weight to 42%. Pleasingly, H6 enhanced the efficacy of paclitaxel against KBV cancer cell-derived xenograft tumors in nude mice.Mechanism studies had found that H6 activated permeability glycoprotein(P-gp)ATPase,reduced intracellular ATP levels and inhibited efflux of P-gp substrates, thus enhancing the antitumor activity of paclitaxel on KBV cells.Molecular docking analysis of homology P-gp and H6 then conducted using the Surflex-Dock module.H6 showed a high binding affinity docking score with a total score of 5.4148,much higher than that of H(0.1414).The nov-el C-28 derivatives of H was synthesized from H6 via three-step reaction. The reversal activity of all synthesized H derivatives were tested using the MTT assay. The results showed that the derivatives of nitrogen groups at C-28 displayed same even potent activity than parent compound H6.In addition, its underlying mechanism of action and in vivo activity are in explore.

Chinese Journal of Pathology 2003;32(4):329-332
OBJECTIVETo investigate the histological characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma with p62 expression, and the correlation of p62 protein with biological characteristics of the cancer cells such as proliferation and metastasis.
METHODSThe immunohistochemical expression of p62 and Ki-67 were studied in 40 primary hepatocellular carcinomas.
RESULTS67.5% (27/40) exhibited positive staining of p62 protein in the cytoplasm of malignant cells, of which the strong positivity was mainly found in pathologic grade III cases. The cases with strong positive staining of p62 exhibited extensive fibrosis in the stroma and massive necrosis of the tumor. These cases also exhibited high proliferation activity, the mean Ki-67 labeling index was 28.3% +/- 15.1%, which was significantly higher than that in p62 negative ones (t = 3.087, P = 0.005). Three of five cases with lung or celiac lymph node metastasis exhibited strong positive staining of p62.
CONCLUSIONThere is some relationship between the expression of p62 protein, proliferation activity and metastasis of cancer cells as well as with the microenvironment which have abundant fibrous tissue in the stroma.

Na(+)-H(+) exchangers (NHE) are major membrane proteins that have been identified as signal transduction mediators in the regulation of cell differentiation and important membrane ion transporters in the regulation of the intercellular pH and the cell volume. NHE are composed of at least six isoforms and activated in growth factor-regulated cell differentiation. However, little is known about the differential regulation of NHE expression in the development. In the present study, we studied developmental regulation of the expression of NHE isoforms in human fetal tissues by comparing the expression of various isoforms between two developmental stages, i.e., week 11 (11 W) and week 16 (16 W). The results demonstrated that NHE1 transcripts were expressed ubiquitously. In comparison to the expression at 16 W, the level of NHE1 transcripts was low and varied significantly in a tissue-specific pattern at 11 W, suggesting that the house-keeping function of MHE1 occurs at 11 W or earlier and becomes well established at least as early as at 16 W. The tissue-specifically restricted expression of NHE2 and NHE3 was regulated at 11 W and 16 W in an opposite tendency, supporting the overlapping relationship between NHE2 and NHE3 in the tissue distribution as reported in adults. NHE5 expression was relatively ubiquitous at 11 W and became restricted in the cerebellum at 16 W, suggesting that the restrictive expression of NHE5 in the brain occurs later than that of other isoforms. The present study demonstrates a space time-dependent regulation of the tissue-specific expression pattern of NHE isoforms during human development between 11 W and 16 W. The results also suggest that at 16 W or earlier the expression pattern of developing tissues becomes similar to that of adult tissues. The observed developmental regulation of NHE expression provides a molecular basis for further study of the function and regulation of NHE gene during development.
