1.Secondary structure of insulin encapsulated within liposomes.

AIMTo determine the secondary structure of insulin encapsulated within liposomes.
METHODSThe secondary structure of insulin, mixture of insulin with liposomes (I) and insulin liposomes (II) were determined by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.
RESULTSThe figures of secondary structure of insulin, sample I and II were similar. The results showed that the amount of alpha-helix and beta-sheet of insulin, sample I and II had little difference, from 36.09% (insulin) to 31.68% (sample I) and 31.45% (sample II), and from 47.83% (insulin) to 53.29% (I) and 51.36% (II), respectively. The results showed that the insulin of sample I and II did not insert in liposomes membrane, only adsorbed or extendedon the surface of the liposomes.
CONCLUSIONThe secondary structure of insulin encapsulated within liposomes has not been destroyed and still remain the original state.

2.Progress in research of new human enterovirus types.

More and more new human enteroviruses (HEVs) types were identified with the broad application of the molecular serotyping methods for enteroviruses. Since enterovirus 71 (EV71) was first reported in 1969, numerous epidemic outbreaks associated with new enteroviruses have occurred all around the world, and pose a significant threat to public health . The epidemics of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) caused by EV71 infection in China have raised great concern of global scholars. This paper reviewed research progress in recent years of the molecular typing, evolution, epidemiology, and pathogenesis attributable to new enterovirus types.

3.Diagnosis and treatment of 17 laterally spreading tumors

Objective To investigate the relationship between the morphological features, pit pattern classification and pathological types of colorectal laterally spreading tumor (LST). To provide a basis for the selection of treatment modalities, and to explore the value of endoscopic treatment. Methods Retrospective analysis of 17 cases of LST from January 2015 to December 2016 detected by conventional endoscopy. 17 cases of LST first underwent dyeing magnifying endoscopy and pit pattern typing. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) or surgical treatment was performed in all patients with LST. Postoperative pathologic findings were analyzed retrospectively. Results Of the 17 cases, ESD was performed in 15 patients, and other 2 patients underwent surgical treatment. All of the 17 cases were treated successfully without complications such as bleeding or perforation. No recurrence was found under endoscopy in the 3-month to 2-year postoperative review. Conclusion The preoperative pit pattern classification can provide the basis for treatment. ESD has good curative effect, low recurrence rate and good safety in the treatment of colorectal LST.
4.Further characterization of the epidermal growth factor receptor ligand 11C-PD153035.

BACKGROUND(11)C-4-N-(3-bromoanilino)-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline ((11)C-PD153035) has been reported as a tracer for imaging human tumors that overexpress epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). However it is still unclear whether (11)C-PD153035 uptake correlates with EGFR expression levels. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between (11)C-PD153035 accumulation and EGFR expression levels.
METHODSSynthesis of (11)C-PD153035 was performed in the Tracerlab FXc system. Accumulation of (11)C-PD153035 by MDA-MB-468, A549 and MDA-MB-231 cells was measured in vitro. There were six tumor-bearing mice in each group. (11)C-PD153035 uptake in tumors was determined by positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). Tumor/normal muscle tissue (T/NT) analysis in PET images was applied to quantify the PET data. Sixty minutes after PET/CT scanning, the nude mice were sacrificed and the tumors were excised. The (11)C-PD153035 accumulation in different tumors was determined by a gamma counter.
RESULTSClose correlation existed between the uptake and the level of EGFR expression both in vitro and ex vivo (r(2) = 0.72, P < 0.001; r(2) = 0.63, P = 0.003). When the static T/NT analysis method was applied to analyze the PET data, the observed correlation was again excellent (r(2) = 0.70, P = 0.001).
CONCLUSIONSThe uptake of PET tracer (11)C-PD153035 closely correlates with the EGFR expression levels in tumor cells. (11)C-PD153035 has the potential to yield useful information for both cancer diagnosis and therapy.

5.Retroperitoneal schwannoma mimicking metastatic seminoma: case report and literature review.

If a testicular cancer patient has a mass in the retroperitoneum, a metastasis is often the first suspicion, probably leading to improper diagnosis and overtreatment. Here we report a case of retroperitoneal schwannoma mimicking metastatic seminoma. A 29-year-old man, who had a history of seminoma, presented with a single retroperitoneal mass suspected to be a metastasis. Because the patient refused radiotherapy, 3 cycles of cisplatin, etoposide, and bleomycin were offered. Post-chemotherapy computed tomography scan revealed persistence of the retroperitoneal mass, with no change in tumor size or characteristics. Subsequently, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection was performed. The dissected tissue contained negative lymph nodes but a single mass in the attached fat. Pathology revealed retroperitoneal schwannoma, which was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Thus, clinicians should be aware of retroperitoneal schwannoma and its distinction from metastatic seminoma to avoid misdiagnosis and ensure proper treatment.

6.Jinleng undershorts palliates varicocele.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Jinleng undershorts on the elevated scrotal temperature induced by varicocele as well as on other clinical symptoms of the disease.
METHODSFifty-one varicocele patients received the treatment of wearing Jinleng undershorts for 30 min twice a day for a course of 90 days. Comparisons were made between the scrotal temperatures and other clinical symptoms of varicocele before and after the treatment.
RESULTSAfter 90 days of treatment with Jinleng undershorts, the left scrotal temperature of the varicocele patients was significantly reduced from (32.16 +/- 0.79) degrees C to (31.53 +/- 0.77) degrees C (P < 0.01), and the right scrotal temperature decreased from (31.91 +/- 0.73) degrees C to (31.81 +/- 0.63) degrees C (P > 0.05). Compared with pretreatment, significant improvement was found in such symptoms as wetness, fever and swelling of the scrotum, backache, headache, dizziness, fatigue and anxiety (P < 0.05), as well as in testicular pain (P < 0.01) and IIEF-5 score, which was increased from 15.89 +/- 6.13 to 20.04 +/- 3.87 (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONJinleng undershorts can be used for the treatment of mild and moderate varicocele.

7.The recruitment of exogenous endothelial progenitor cells in lung tumor model of nude mice.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVEEndothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) play an important role in hypoxia-triggered tumor vasculogenesis. However, the homing of exogenous EPCs in tumors is still unclear. In this study, we investigated the recruitment of exogenous EPCs in human lung adenocarcinoma model of nude mice.
METHODSEPCs labeled with green fluorescence protein (GFP) were transplanted into nude mice bearing human lung adenocarcinoma. The growth of tumor was observed. After the mice were killed, GFP-EPCs in different tissues were examined by fluorescence. The tumor tissues were stained for CD133, hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1α), stromal cell-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α), and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (KDR). Real-time polymerase chain reaction of CD133, HIF-1α, SDF-1α, and VEGF-1 were also performed.
RESULTSThe growth of tumor in EPC group was significantly faster than that in saline solution group (P <0.05). Under fluorescence microscope, GFP-EPCs were strongly expressed in both tumor and bone marrow. EPCs were recruited to the tumor periphery to participate in tumor vasculogenesis. The expression of CD133, HIF-1α, and SDF-1 mRNA in tumor and bone marrow were significantly higher than that in the liver, spleen, and skin (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSExogenous EPCs can be recruited to tumor and accelerate tumor growth. Except tumor, bone marrow can also recruit EPCs.

8.Expanded skin flaps for the treatment of large scalp and face scar.

OBJECTIVETo explore the method to repair large scalp and face scars.
METHODS1-3 expanders under the scalp were needed for repair the scalp scar. The expanded deltopectoral flaps were transferred to repair the face scar.
RESULTS12 cases were treated with satisfactory results. All the flaps survived and the donor sites were closed primarily. 2 cases had expander exposure which didn't affect the treatment results. Atrophic cutaneous striae was occurred because of overexpansion.
CONCLUSIONSSkin expansion is a good method for large scalp and face scar.

OBJECTIVEThis article aims to review recent studies on the biological characteristics of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), transcription regulation by lncRNAs, and the results of recent studies on the mechanism of action of lncRNAs in tumor development.
DATA SOURCESThe data cited in this review were mainly obtained from the articles listed in PubMed and HighWire that were published from January 2002 to June 2010. The search terms were "long non-coding RNA", "gene regulation", and "tumor".
STUDY SELECTIONThe mechanism of lncRNAs in gene expression regulation, and tumors concerned with lncRNAs and the role of lncRNAs in oncogenesis.
RESULTSlncRNAs play an important role in transcription regulation by controlling chromatin remodeling, transcriptional control, and post-transcriptional controlling. lncRNAs are involved in many kinds of tumors and play key roles as both suppressing and promoting factors.
CONCLUSIONlncRNAs could perfectly regulate the balance of gene expression system and play important roles in oncogenic cellular transformation.

10.Arnebia root oil promotes histological change and up-regulates bFGF and it's mRNA expression in the raw surface of the rabbits.

OBJECTIVETo explore the molecular biological mechanism of arnebia root oil in promoting wound surface healing by observing histological change and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) mRNA expression in the wound surface tissues of 2 groups, as well as the wound surface healing rate.
METHODExperimental model of incised-wound was produced on the back of 18 New Zealand albino rabbits. The wound surfaces were randomly divided into two groups, namely, experimental group and control group. The wound surfaces in the experimental group were treated by arnebia root oil and those in control group were treated by petrolatum gauze. Then raw surfaces were evaluated by the techniques of histology, histochemistry and electron microscope and the healing rates of the raw surfaces were compared between the two groups. Content of bFGF and it's mRNA expression in wound surface tissue was also measured by means of Western-blot and RT-PCR.
RESULTThe wound surface healing rate in experimental group was higher than that in control group( P < 0.05). The fibroblast, collagen and blood capillaries were comparatively richer in experimental group as compared with those in control group, and similarly, the expression of bFGF mRNA was also significantly enhanced in the experimental group as compared with control group during the various periods of treatment. In addition, the changes in the expressions of bFGF and it's mRNA paralleled the changes of healing rates in the two groups.
CONCLUSIONthe present results showed that amebia root oil significantly can promote the healing of raw surfaces, which may be mediated by up-regulation of bFGF expression.
