Journal of Forensic Medicine 2006;22(1):52-57
OBJECTIVE:
Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed for the determination of opiates in biological samples according to the emerging problem in drugs abuse.
METHODS:
Opiates such as heroin, 6-acetylmorphine, morphine, codeine, acetylcodeine, hydrocodone and hydromorphone were isolated from human blood, urine, oral fluid and hair using a simple extraction and consequently analyzed using LC-MS/MS. The method was evaluated by real cases.
RESULTS:
The mobile phase give the optimum separation for opiates. The detection limit of morphine in urine with dilution and liquid-liquid extraction and in hair is 10ng/mL, 0.01 ng/mL and 0.01 ng/mg, respectively.
CONCLUSION
The method is simple and rapid, offering superior sensitivity and selectivity for opiates. The target compounds comprising hydrocodone and hydromorphone enlarge the applied area.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2010;30(7):559-562
OBJECTIVETo compare the clinical effect on motor impairment after elbow operation between electroacupuncture combined with rehabilitation and rehabilitation training.
METHODSFifty-three cases were randomized into an electroacupuncture combined with rehabilitation group (group A, 30 cases) and a rehabilitation group (group B, 23 cases). In group A, electroacupuncture was applied on the stiff region of the elbow and Sanjian (LI 3), Shousanli (LI 10), Hegu (LI 4), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Yinlingquan (SP 9) as adjunctive acupoints. Additionally, the passive movement was followed in the elbow joint after needles removed. In group B, the constant passive movement exercise was applied. The therapeutic effect was observed after 1.5 months of treatment. Mayo Elbow Performance Score (Mayo) and range of motion (ROM) were analyzed statistically after treatment in two groups.
RESULTSMayo score and elbow ROM were all improved significantly after treatment in two groups (all P < 0.01). Compared with group B after treatment, the total Mayo score, joint motion range and ability as well as elbow ROM were all improved much apparently in group A (all P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONCompared with rehabilitation therapy, electroacupuncture in combination of rehabilitation training can achieve much significant effect on the motion function recovery of elbow joint after fracture operation.

OBJECTIVETo explore the significance of C4d deposition in follicular lymphoma (FL).
METHODSThe deposition of C4d was detected in samples from 133 cases of lymphoma by immunohistochemistry and FL was studied by the double stainings of CD35/C4d, CD21/C4d and Bcl-2/C4d,respectively.
RESULTSAmong the 26 FL tissues, irregular C4d deposition was seen in 19 tumor tissues. Double staining for CD35, CD21 or Bcl-2 showed the C4d deposition was around the follicular dendritic cells (FDC). There was no significant difference between the positive rate of C4d and the degree of lymphoma. No deposition was found in the diffuse areas of FL and other type lymphomas.
CONCLUSIONC4d deposition around the follicular dendritic cell in the neoplastic follicles is a specific indicator of follicular lymphoma.

OBJECTIVETo study MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-2 and TIMP-1 expression, and their association to invasion and metastasis of neuroblastoma (NB).
METHODSThe staining status was compared of MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-2 and TIMP-1 in cryostat sections of tumor tissue in 35 NB patients by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSStrong expression of MMP-2 was detected only in 2 patients with early stage NB (group A without metastasis), but in 9 and 10 respectively with advanced stage NB (group B with local metastasis and group C with distant metastasis) (compared to group A, P < 0.01). Strong MMP-9 staining was found in 4, 8 and 11 patients for group A, B and C patients (group A vs group C, P < 0.05). The expression of TIMP-2 was the strongest in 4 group A patients, but it decreased with progression of the disease. There was no statistical difference in TIMP-1 expression among the three groups of patients.
CONCLUSIONMMP-2, MMP-9 expression may be related to metastasis and progression of neuroblastoma, while TIMP-2 may have an inhibitory effect.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of detachable balloons, detachable coils and intracranial covered stents in management of intracranial giant aneurysms. Methods From April 1998 to March 2006,20 patients with a giant or very large aneurysm were treated by parent artery occlusion(PAO), coils embolization and covered stent,in which 9 aneurysms were treated by PAO,8 by coils embolization and 3 by covered stent at initial management. Two recurrent aneurysms treated by coils embolization were performed by covered stent.Follow-up 9-83 months, mean 41.1?25.3 months.Immediate postprocedural angiographic outcomes were categorized as complete occlusion(100%),subtotal occlusion(95%-99%),and incomplete occlusion(<95%)of the aneurysms;and follow-up angiographic outcomes were categorized as stable, thrombosis, and recanalization.Clinical outcomes were graded according to a modified Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS).Results Endovascular treatment was technically feasible in all aneurysms without procedural-related complications.Immediate postprocedural angiograms showed complete occlusion was achieved in 11 aneurysms, subtotal occlusion in 7 and incomplete occlusion in 2.One patient with incomplete occlusion died on the seventh day with a rebleeding. The final angiographic findings in nineteen survival patients confirmed a complete occlusion in 15 aneurysms, subtotal occlusion in 3 and incomplete occlusion in 1,in which 10 parent arteries were successfully preserved. No rebleeding occurred during the follow-up period. The clinical evaluation performed at final follow-up in 19 patients revealed that the symptoms disappeared in 11 patients and improved in 8 in the modified GOS.Conclusions Treatment of giant intracranial aneurysms with coiling was associated with a low complete occlusion rate and a high recanalization rate.Treatment with endovascular parent artery occlusion remains practical, but this technique may result in damage to the parent artery and cause cerebral ischemic events. The use of an intracranial covered stent proved to be a relatively simple and safe procedure and maintained the pateney of the parent artery.

Objective To investigate the relationship between hemoglobin and blood pressure of pregnant women in Zhoushan islands, so as to provide scientific evidence for the etiological study of gestational hypertension. Methods A retrospective study was conducted among 1 383 pregnant women who received perinatal care in Zhoushan Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Zhejiang Province from January 2017 to June 2018. Pregnant women were monitored for hemoglobin content and blood pressure in the early, middle and late pregnancy. The multivariate linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between hemoglobin content and blood pressure in different pregnancy. Results The incidence of anemia in early, middle and late pregnancy was 7.74%, 25.45% and 15.76% respectively. The multivariate linear regression showed that hemoglobin levels during pregnancy had effects on systolic blood pressure in early, middle and late pregnancy, and the earlier hemoglobin levels were monitored, the more obvious the effect on systolic blood pressure was. With the increase of hemoglobin level, systolic blood pressure increased, such as the effect of hemoglobin on systolic blood pressure in early pregnancy, mid-pregnancy and late pregnancy. Hemoglobin of first trimster had the greatest effect (β=0.10, P<0.001), Hemoglobin of second trimester had no obvious effect, and that of third trimester had the second effect (β=0.04, P=0.027).Hemoglobin levels and diastolic blood pressure levels were similar to their relationship with systolic blood pressure. Conclusions Hemoglobin levels during pregnancy have significant effects on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in first, second and third trimsters of pregnancy. Regular measurement of hemoglobin levels during pregnancy can improve the health of pregnant women.

Shigella flexneri is an infectious pathogen that causes dysentery to human, which remains a serious threat to public health, particularly in developing countries. In this study, the global protein expression patterns of S. flexneri during transition from exponential growth to stationary phase in vitro were analyzed by using 2-D PAGE combined with MALDI-TOF MS. In a time-course experiment with five time points, the relative abundance of 49 protein spots varied significantly. Interestingly, a putative outer membrane protein YciD (OmpW) was almost not detected in the exponential growth phase but became one of the most abundant proteins in the whole stationary-phase proteome. Some proteins regulated by the global regulator FNR were also significantly induced (such as AnsB, AspA, FrdAB, and KatG) or repressed (such as AceEF, OmpX, SodA, and SucAB) during the growth phase transition. These proteins may be the key effectors of the bacterial cell cycle or play important roles in the cellular maintenance and stress responses. Our expression profile data provide valuable information for the study of bacterial physiology and form the basis for future proteomic analyses of this pathogen.
