OBJECTIVETo investigate the diagnostic value and clinical significance of serum tumor markers CEA, CA19-9 and CA242 in patients with colorectal cancer.
METHODSThe serum levels of CEA, CA19-9 and CA242 were determined by ELISA before surgery in 134 patients with colorectal cancer and in 200 healthy people as a control.
RESULTSThe CEA, CA19-9 and CA242 levels in patients were significantly higher than those in controls (P < 0.01, respectively). The sensitivity of CEA and CA242 for colorectal cancer diagnosis was higher than that of CA19-9, and the combined sensitivity of CEA + CA242 and CEA + CA242 + CA19-9 were higher than that of single item or the other two combinations (CEA + CA19-9 and CA19-9 + CA242). In Dukes stages A, B, C and D, serum levels and sensitivity of the three tumor markers were significantly and successively increased. In the cases with lymph node metastasis, levels of the three tumor markers were significantly increased. The markers levels were also significantly and successively increased along with the extent of cancer infiltration.
CONCLUSIONThe results indicate that the combined use of CEA and CA242 or the three markers is an useful adjuvant diagnostic measure for colorectal cancer, and is helpful in the evaluation of lymph node metastasis, degree of invasion and Dukes staging in cancer treatment.

Common warts are close associated with HPVs infection. In this study, we amplified and sequenced the LCR fragment and E2 gene of HPV-2 that infected the patient of extensive common wart with cutaneous horns, and we constructed the recombinant CAT-reporter plasmids pBLCAT-LCR containing HPV-2 prototype or variant LCR and mammalian expression plasmids pcDNA3. 1-E2 containing prototype or variant E2 ORF individually. The promoter activities of HPV-2 variant and the transcriptional repression activities of the mutated E2 protein were evaluated by transient transfection into HeLa cells. The results showed that there were several mutations in LCR and E2 gene of HPV-2 variant. Compared with the prototype, the viral early promoter activity of variant was significantly increased uder the control of LCR. Compared with the wild type E2 protein, the transcriptional repression activities of the mutated E2 protein was abolished partially. We speculate herein that increased promoter activities and decreased repression effect of the mutated E2 protein are linked, at least partially, with the clinical phenotypes of the uncommon huge common wart.

OBJECTIVETo establish a new quality evaluation method for traditional Chinese medicine preparations, using one chemical reference substance to calcutate multi-components simultaneously.
METHODEmployed puerarin as the maker component, puerarin relative correction factors (RCF) of salvianolic acid B to puerarin and paidzein to puerarin were calcatated in the chromatographic conditions for determination of the three components in Guanmaikang capsules. The contents of Puerarin were determined by external standard method, and those of salvianolic acid B and paidzein were calculated by puerarin and their RCF. The accuracy of the new method was evaluated by comparing the calculated contents with the determined.
RESULTThe analysis methods were established, and it has been no significant difference between the calculated contents and determined contents.
CONCLUSIONSThe method can control the components without providing salvianolic acid B and paidzein reference. It is to be a suitable quality evaluation pattern for TCM Preparation.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of IFIR-FIESTA technique in detecting renal artery stenosis in elderly patients.
METHODSTwenty-seven aged patients underwent both IFIR-FIESTA and 3D CE-MRA examinations. The imaging quality and renal artery stenosis grades were evaluated. Kappa test was used to assess the consistency between the two methods. With CE-MRA as the reference, the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, PPV and NPV for IFIR-FIESTA were calculated in detecting renal artery stenosis.
RESULTSThe images by the two methods were 100% qualified for diagnosis, although the image quality of CE-MRA was significantly better. IFIR-FIESTA and CE-MRA showed excellent consistency in detecting renal artery stenosis. With CE-MRA as the reference, the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, PPV and NPV for IFIR-FIESTA were 97.1%, 100%, 98.1%, 100%, and 95% in detecting renal artery stenosis, respectively.
CONCLUSIONIFIR-FIESTA is feasible as a routine examination for detecting renal artery stenosis in elderly patients.
