1.EFFECT OF INDUCERS ON LEUKEMIA CELL
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 1982;0(02):-
The effect of inducers on leukemia cell line K562 was studied in liquid culture system in vitro. Our experimental results showed that hemin induced cells only to produce hemoglobin without suppressing the growth of cells; Butyric sodium inhibited only the growth of cells without induction of hemoglobin; Cytosine arabinoside and harring-tonine could induce the hemoglobin of cells in their toxicant quantification. The results suggest that hemin and butyric sodium may have not be a therapeutic effect on leukemia patient; The effect of induced differentiation and cell toxicity of cytosine arabin- oside and harringtonine may be closely interconnected. Clinically, there is still the possibility of cell toxicity in treatment of leukemia patients with small dosage of those drugs, and the effect of those drugs may be the combination of cell toxicity, induced differentiation and cell sensitivity.

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;29(7):826-828
Objective: To improve the present method for casualty forecasting using the risk analysis theory. Methods: Empirical data were extracted from 11 urban aggressive combats during and after WW II, and the distribution of daily casualty was determined. Based on quantitative judgment model, several factors such as the number of soldiers, terrain, weather, general situation, suddenness, and combat efficacy were configured; Monte Carlo simulation was applied for simulation, and a forecasting model was setup with Microsoft Excel and Crystal Ball 2000 software for risk analysis of the simulation outcome. Results: The distribution of daily casualty during urban aggressive military action could be represented by normal distribution. With the values of the aforementioned factors, the result of 1000 tests showed that the mean daily casualty rate was 0. 42%, with the standard deviation being 0. 21%. Conclusion: Monte Carlo simulation is an effective means to improve the present casualty forecasting method.

Theory of Chinese materia medica (CMM) nature was an important part in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theoretical system. During the long term practice, based on TCM theories of yin and yang, five elements, zang-fu, meridian and treatment principle, herbal features and patients' reactions were highly summarized into recognition and understanding. Since ancient time, theory of CMM nature has always guided the accurate syndrome differentiation and medication in TCM clinical practice. It contributed to the healthcare and reproduction of Chinese people. Theory of CMM nature is the basic theoretical knowledge which must be mastered in the study and research. Its concepts contained four-qi, five tastes, channel tropism, ascending and descending, toxicity, tonification and reducing, moisture and dryness, smooth and astringent, softness and hardness, fixed and itinerant effect, strong and mild. Using fixed and itinerant effects in the summarization of CMM function is one of the components in CMM nature theories. Although discussions on this theory from practitioners during past dynasties were in disorder, the significant guidance in herbal interaction mechanism and prescription compatibility should not be ignored.

Microbiology 2008;0(08):-
In the experiment, the production of plagues by Bdellovibrio bacteria in solid medium cultivation, the reproduction of Bdellovibrio bacteria in liquid medium cultivation and the attachment of Bdellovibrio bacteria to carrier were observed, which aimed to study the effects of enrofloxacin on the growth and at-tachment ability of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16. Results indicated that in solid medium cultivation, the production of plagues by Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 was inhibited by different concentrations (2 ?g/mL, 5 ?g/mL, 10 ?g/mL, 20 ?g/mL, 50 ?g/mL) of enrofloxacin and the inhibitory effects of enrofloxacin became stronger with the increase of the concentration of enrofloxacin. Similarly, in liquid medium cultivation, the reproduction of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 was also obviously inhibited by different concentrations ofenrofloxacin and higher concentrations of enrofloxacin such as 10 ?g/mL, 20 ?g/mL, 50 ?g/mL had stronger inhibitory effects on the reproduction of BDF-H16. However, the growth tendency of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 was not inhibited in 10 ?g/mL enrofloxacin. Additionally, when zeolite was added, enrofloxacin had also inhibitory effects on the numbers of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 attached to zeolite. With the increase of the concentrations of enrofloxacin, the numbers of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 attached to zeolite became smaller and smaller. However, the attachment rate of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 to zeo-lite became higher under 2 ?g/mL-20 ?g/mL enrofloxacin. The results above showed that enrofloxacin had inhibitory effects on the plague production and reproduction of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16, but the at-tachment ability of Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16 was strengthened in liquid medium cultivation with 2 ?g/mL-20 ?g/mL enrofloxacin and zeolite, and adding zeolite helped to reduce the adverse effects of en-rofloxacin on Bdellovibrio bacteria BDF-H16.

OBJECTIVETo construct a cDNA library of osteosarcoma SAOS-2 cells and screen the proteins interacting with the bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) to explore the role of BMP-2 in the development of prostate cancer.
METHODSThe total RNA was extracted from SAOS-2 cells, from which poly(A)(+)RNA was purified to generate the cDNA using RT-PCR with primer SMARTIII and primer CDSIIIoligo(dT). The library was constructed and screened by cotransformation of the double-stranded cDNA (dscDNA) and linearized pGADT7-Rec with the bait plasmid to the yeast AH109. The proteins interacting with BMP-2 were screened by AH109 mating with the bait strain Y187, and the interaction was confirmed using far-Western blot analysis.
RESULTSThe cDNA library of human osteosarcoma SAOS-2 cells was constructed, which was characterized by high diversity and sufficient capacity. The dscDNA size range was between 250-5000 bp, with a cotransformation efficiency of 4.3 x 10(5) and recombination efficiency of 1.9 x 10(6), and 4.3 x 10(5) clones were screened. The mating efficiency was 32% and 1.0 x 10(6) clones were screened by the bait of BMP-2, and 4 positive clones was obtained and sequenced.
CONCLUSIONThe diversity and capacity of the cDNA library meet the needs for screening genes related to prostate cancer.

Objective To observe the difference of caveolin-3(CAV3) gene polymorphism between normal people and diabetic patients in Chinese Han population. Methods Exon gene polymorphism in 50 normal people and 50 T2DM patients were detected by PCR-SSCP. Results The cumulative incidence rate of electrophoretic variation in T2DM patients was 48%, while cumulative incidence rate of normal people was 7%(P<0.001). It was proved that in the variant bands, there were base variant. Conclusions The variant base number of CAV3 gene in human T2DM samples are significantly more than the normal which can be preliminary detected by PCR-SSCP. It indicates that CAV3 gene polymorphism may be one of the genetic backgrounds for the occurence of Chinese T2DM.

Objective To assess the in vitro effect of high intensity narrow-band blue light on bacteria isolated from patients with acne vulgaris (AV). Methods Bacteria were isolated by culture from the acne lesions of 67 patients with mild to moderate AV. Selected bacterial strains were chosen for irradiation with the blue light. The morphology and number of colony formation units (CFUs) as well as the ultrastructure of the bacteria were observed before and after the irradiation. Results Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) (32.4%), P. granulosum (6.9%), Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) (35.3%), S. aureus (4.9%), S. heamolyticus (7.8%), S.cohnii (1.0%), Corynebacterium spp. (9.8%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (1.0%) and B group Streptococci (1.0%) were isolated from the lesions. In vitro investigation revealed that the irradiation significantly reduced the number of CFUs of P. acne and S. epidermidis. Conclusion High intensity narrow-band blue light is effective against bacteria isolated from AV lesions.
