1.Azathioprine Treatment in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Double Edged Sword
The International Medical Journal Malaysia 2015;14(2):61-62
Extremely severe pancytopenia induced by low dosage of azathioprine in systemic lupus erythematosus patients
is rare. A 40-year-old Chinese female was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus. She suffered worse
erythema, oral ulceration, raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate and high anti-dsDNA in August 2013. Then she
was initiated on oral azathioprine 50mg/d and extremely severe pancytopenia was seen in September 2013. She
was recovered by a series of treatments. Regular monitoring of blood counts is highly recommended to reduce
the possible serious myelosuppression induced by azathioprine.

OBJECTIVETo dynamically assess drug targeting of Yougui Pill (YP) and Zuogui Pill (ZP) using infrared thermography.
METHODSIn this self-control experiment, five healthy volunteers were recruited. By using infrared thermography 10 to 11 thermal images of different body locations were taken from each participant after they took warm water, YP, ZP, and their dissembled prescriptions at 30, 70, 100, 130, and 160 min, respectively. The heat values in the lower quadrant abdomen, uterus, Du channel, and Shenque (CV8) were statistically analyzed after scanning for 125 times.
RESULTSAdministration of YP and its disassembled prescriptions enhanced the heat value of the locations of the Du channel and Shenque (CV8), but did no enhance the heat value of the lower quadrant abdomen at 30 min. Administration of ZP and its disassembled prescriptions reduced the heat value in the locations of the lower quadrant abdomen, uterus, Du channel, and Shenque (CV8) at each time point.
CONCLUSIONThe drug targeting of ZP and YP focused on the locations of the Du channel and Shenque (CV8), not on the locations of the lower quadrant abdomen or uterus.

Objective To investigate principles of acupoint selection for the ancient acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of facial paralysis. Methods The ancient literature about acupuncture and moxibustion was collected and reviewed from the pre-Qin period to the late Qing Dynasty. According to the data selection criteria, acupuncture and moxibustion prescriptions of facial paralysis were collected and input into an ancient acupuncture and moxibustion prescription database. By use of frequency analysis and factor analysis, the principles of acupoint selection were obtained.ResultsTotally 257 prescriptions were collected which involve 74 acupoints. Through frequency analysis, 19 acupoints were obtained whose frequencies were equal or greater than 9, such as Dicang (ST 4), Jiache (ST 6), Tinghui (GB 2), Shuigou (GV 26), Hegu (LI 4), etc. Through factor analysis of acupoint variables, 6 common factors were obtained. Conclusion Based on analysis of the common factors, the principles of acupoint selection are summarized which were according to meridian, part and etiology for the ancient acupuncture treatment of facial paralysis. The results could provide a reference for clinical acupuncture and moxibustion treatment. It is feasible that factor analysis was applied to study principles of acupoint selection for acupuncture and moxibustion prescriptions.

Objective To investigate the early diagnostic and the prognostic value of amplitude integrated e-lectroencephalography(aEEG)in neonates with hypoxic - ischemic encephalopathy( HIE). Methods The medical data subjects were admitted to the Department of Neonatology,Children's Hospital of Hebei Province from January 2012 to December 2013. Ninety term infants with HIE were divided into 3 groups(mild, moderate and severe),and they were investigated respectively by aEEG monitoring within 12 hours after birth, and all of the infants accepted cranial magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)on 3 to 7 days after birth. The outcomes by MRI were divided into 3 groups(mildly abnor-mal,moderately abnormal and severely abnormal). The findings of aEEG monitoring were divided into 3 groups(nor-mal,mildly abnormal and severely abnormal),the correlation between the findings of aEEG and the severity of HIE was analyzed. The correlation between the results of aEEG and severity of MRI were analyzed. Behavior evaluation of infants with HIE were applied by Neonatal Behavioral Neurological Assessment(NBNA)score on 7 d,14 d,28 d after birth and prognostic evaluation of children with HIE was conducted based on Children's Development Center of China infants intelligence development test at 12 months of age. Results (1)Among 90 term infants with HIE,44 cases(48. 9% ) had mild HIE,29 cases(32. 2% )moderate and 17 cases(18. 9% )severe HIE;49 cases(54. 4% )had mildly ab-normal MRI,23 cases(25. 6% )moderately abnormal MRI and 18 cases(20. 0% )severely abnormal MRI;43 cases (47. 8% )had normal aEEG,25 cases(27. 8% )mildly abnormal and 22 cases(24. 4% )severely abnormal aEEG. (2)The findings of aEEG classification were correlated with the severity of HIE(r = 0. 970 7,P ﹤ 0. 001). The findings of aEEG classification were correlated with the severity of MRI(r = 0. 933 5,P ﹤ 0. 001).(3)NBNA score with severe-ly abnormal aEEG was obviously lower than that with the mildly abnormal aEEG. NBNA score on 7 d after birth:(14. 1 ± 4. 2)scores vs(32. 2 ± 2. 3)scores,on 14 d after birth:(17. 8 ± 5. 6)scores vs(33. 4 ± 2. 1)scores,on 28 d after birth:(18. 9 ± 8. 4)scores vs(34. 6 ± 2. 6)scores,and the difference was statistically significant(all P ﹤0. 05).(4)The infants with HIE were followed at 12 months of age. The development quotient mental development in-dex(MDI)and psychomotor development index(PDI)with severely abnormal aEEG were obviously lower than that with the mildly abnormal aEEG[MDI(65. 1 ± 4. 1)scores vs(89. 1 ± 6. 7)scores,PDI(67. 5 ± 10. 1)scores vs(90. 7 ± 8. 3)scores],the difference was statistically significant(all P ﹤ 0. 05). Conclusion It is indicated that aEEG can early evaluate the severity of HIE and help predict its neurological outcome.

Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2014;(9):1314-1319
A rapid and sensitive method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of four selenium species Se(Ⅵ), Se(Ⅵ), selenomethionine, and Se-methylselenocysteine in Se-enriched yeast by liquid chromatography-hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HPLC-HG-AFS). The isolation of the analytes from yeast samples was accomplished by proteaseⅩⅣ and trypsin enzymatic digestion. The target compounds were separated on a PRP-X100 anion exchange column and analyzed by HG-AFS. The mobile phase was 20 mmol/L (NH4)2HPO4. Good linearity was obtained for all the selenium species, with linear correlation coefficients higher than 0. 9996. The LODs of the four species were between 0. 5 and 5. 0 μg/kg. Average recoveries for the four analytes were in the ranges of 82 . 5%-101 . 2%, with intra-and inter-day RSD lower than 8. 6% and 14. 5, respectively. The proposed analytical method is simple, sensitive, with low operation cost, making it applicable for the determination of the selenium species in Se-enriched feeds.
