Objective To evaluate the predisposition effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) ,angiotensinogen (AGT) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene polymorphisms on coronary disease (CHD) as well as their possible synergistic effect in the development of CHD in Chinese aged people. In order to investigate whether Arg110Gln polymorphism in the coding region of the IL-13 gene is associated with asthma and total plasma IgE level in Han nationality in Hubei Chinese population, the allele frequency of 4257(g/a) site and Arg110Gln genotype of IL-13 was detected by using restriction fragment length polymorphism in Han nationality in Hubei Chinese population including 43 asthmatic children, 45 asthmatic adults, 31 control children and 46 control adults. Total plasma IgE was measured by Chemiluminescence assay. The results showed that the frequency of allele A at 4257 bp of IL-13 in children and adults was 0.39 and 0.32, respectively. The GlnGln form of Arg110Gln polymorphism of IL-13 gene was associated with susceptibility of asthma and elevated total plasma IgE in children (P=0.030 and 0.0009, respectively), but not with them in adults (P=0.219 and 0.174, respectively). Our results suggest that the Arg110Gln polymorphism of IL-13 gene is associated with susceptibility of asthma and elevated total plasma IgE in Chinese children of Han nationality in Hubei, but not with them in adults.

OBJECTIVETo observe dynamically the effect of drugs for clearing heat and removing dampness (CHRD) on biliary components in rabbits with pigment gallstones (PGS).

METHODSForty rabbits were established into PGS model and randomly divided into 3 groups, the bacterial infection group, the CHRD low-dose group and the CHRD high-dose group. Besides, a normal group was set up with healthy rabbits for control. Changes of total bilirubin (TB), unconjugated bilirubin (UCB), total bile acid (TBA), Ca2+, bacterial and endogenous beta-glucuronidase (beta-Gase) in bile were observed.

RESULTSCHRD drugs significantly decreased the contents of UCB, Ca2+, bacterial and endogenous beta-Gase (P < 0.05), and increased TBA in bile (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONCHRD drugs have good effect in reducing the lithogenesis of the pigment gallstones.

OBJECTIVETo confirm the relations between the expression of cyclin E, p16ink4, ki67 and HPV16/18 infection using cervical exfoliated cells, and evaluate the usefulness of cyclin E, p16ink4 and ki67 as biomarkers for screening of cervical carcinomas.

METHODSThe expression of cyclin E, p16ink4 oncoproteins and ki67 proliferative activity was evaluated immunohistochemically in 78 cervical exfoliated epithelial specimens. Human papillomavirus type16 and 18 (HPV16/18) infection was assessed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using type specific primers.

RESULTSCyclin E, p16ink4 and ki67 were all overexpressed in cervical preneoplasia and neoplasia cells, compared with little expressed in ASCUS (P less than 0.005). Overexpression of cyclin E was observed in CIN, (P less than 0.01), p16ink4 and ki67 overexpressed in invasive carcinoma(100 percent and 90.9 percent respectively). The degree of p16ink4 and ki67 expression correlated well with the degree of cervical neoplasia (P less than 0.005). HPV16 infection was assessed at all stages of cervical neoplasia samples, and a significant relationship with the degree of cervical epithelial lession was observed at the same time. The expression level of p16ink4 and ki67 seemed to be more closely associated with HPV16 infection than cyclin E did (rs=1.0 vs rs=0.4). HPV18 was found positive in only 1 case in CIN1 and in 4 cases in CIN2-3. Therefore no significance was found on statistical analysis (P less than 0.005).

CONCLUSIONCyclin E, p16ink4 and ki67 should be regarded as useful biomarkers of HPV-related cervical neoplasias, and be used for screening patients at high risk for developing cervical carcinomas. Moreover, cyclin E might be a significant cytologic marker for the primary screening of cervical carcinomas.

Objective To compare mobilization effects of endogeneous MSCs in the treatment of ulcerative colitis rats by Shenling Baizhu Powder and Tongxie Yaofang Decoction. Methods Twenty SD male rats were randomly divided into blank group, model group, Shenling Baizhu Powder group and Tongxie Yaofang Decoction group. TNBS/ethanol method was used to build the ulcerative colitis model. Administration groups were given Shenling Baizhu Powder and Tongxie Yaofang Decoction for gavage and model group and blank group were given normal saline for gavage. After gavage, MSCs from peripheral blood and bone marrow were extracted for primary culture. MSCs of bone marrow and peripheral blood were detected by flow cytometry. Results MSCs from bone marrow showed: Compared with the blank group, the percentage of positive cells in the model group decreased (P<0.05); Compared with the model group, the percentage of positive cells in Shenling Baizhu Powder group and Tongxie Yaofang Decoction group increased, and the expression of Shenling Baizhu Powder group was more obvious (P<0.05). MSCs from peripheral blood showed: Compared with the blank group, the percentage of positive cells in the model group increased (P<0.05); Compared with the model group, the percentage of positive cells in Shenling Baizhu Powder group and Tongxie Yaofang Decoction group decreased, and the expression of Shenling Baizhu Powder group was more obvious (P<0.05). Conclusion Shenling Baizhu Powder and Tongxie Yaofang Decoction have the function of promoting the increase of bone marrow-derived MSCs and the reduction of peripheral blood source of MSCs in model rats, and Shenling Baizhu Powder is better than Tongxie Yaofang Decoction.

In China, the treatment of AIDS With Chinese herbal medicine compound has been widely studied and practiced. Clinical Studies showed that the treatment of AIDS with Chinese medicine can significantly relieve AIDS patients' clinical symptoms, improve life quality with rising immunity and alleviate toxic and side effects in antiviral drug. This study took 28 Clinical Studies on the treatment of AIDS with Chinese herbal medicine compound published in Chinese periodicals as the research object, and designed Tree Analysis Algorithm was used to analyze prescription compatibility in the treatment of AIDS with Chinese herbal medicine compound. Results of data analysis revealed that clinical therapy on AIDS could be classified into three types: predominent de-toxication, predominent supplementing Qi, and simultaneous de-toxication and supplementing Qi due to different understanding the pathogenesis of excessive evil and deficient essence-qi. But in practical medication, there has not formed a reasonable and effective combination or basic prescription up to now, except that Astragalus was wildly used.
