1.Tilted implants and final fixed prostheses treatment in edentulous mandible with severely resorbed

Objective To evaluate the clinical outcomes of severely resorbed edentulous mandibles with tilted implants and fixed prostheses. Methods Ten patients with severely resorbed edentulous mandibles were en-rolled. Each patient received 4 implants,two posteriors placed tilted implants. Immediate loading of tilted implants were applied in all cases using a fixed provisional prosthesis. All patients were finalized 3-4 months with fixed pros-theses. Results 40/40 implants with initial torque(>35N.cm)were followed 1-1.5 years presenting 100%surviv-al. Conclusion The method of using tilted implants and fixed prostheses in the cases of severely resorbed edentu-lous mandibles can achieve an ideal short-term and medium-term effects.
2.Periodontal therapy for rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVETo assess the effect and safety of periodontal therapy in relieving the symptoms and clinical signs of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
METHODSThe electronic search was conducted in Medline (OVID, 1950-2010 Sep), EMBASE (1984-2010 Sep), CENTRAL (2010, Issue 3), CBM (1978-2010 Sep) and the Chinese journals on stomatology were hand-searched. Clinical randomized controlled trials as well as clinical controlled trials were selected regarding the targeted issue. Two investigators evaluated the reporting quality and risk of bias of those included trials in accordance with CONSORT statement and Cochrane risk of bias assessment tools, and collected data of included studies in duplicate. Revman 5.0.23 was applied for Meta-analysis.
RESULTSFour trials met the inclusion criteria and a total of 150 patients were enrolled in the trials, one had low risk of bias and others had moderate risk of bias. Meta-analysis showed that pure periodontal therapy could not decrease disease activity score in 28 joints (DAS28) (P=0.06), and there was no statistically significant difference between periodontal therapy with anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) medication and pure anti-TNF-alpha medication (P=0.24). But the subgroup analysis showed that a significantly decreased DAS28 was achieved by periodontal therapy (P=0.03), and the interventions provided a remarkable effect on alleviating clinical signs and erythrocyte sedimentation rate of RA (P<0.05). Results of the symptoms relief differed from the studies. No adverse events were reported.
CONCLUSIONThe evidence available currently indicates that periodontal therapy may play a positive role in remitting the clinical signs and periodontal status of RA except the relief of the symptoms.

3.Effect of endoplasmic reticulum stress on the osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament cells under continuous static pressure

Objective:
To study the effect of continuous static pressure on the endoplasmic reticulum of human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) and the mechanism of osteogenic differentiation.
Methods:
hPDLCs cultured in vitro were subjected to 1 g/cm 2 of continuous compressive pressure (CCP) by custom-made, round, glass panes for 0, 2, 4, and 6 h, respectively. Alkaline phosphatase staining was used to detect osteogenic differentiation, and real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the expression of protein kinase receptor-like ER kinase (PERK), eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α (eIF2α), and transcription activation factor 4 (ATF-4). The 0 h loading group was the control group.
Results:
After CCP treatment, the alkaline phosphatase staining of hPDLCs was blue-violet and significantly stronger than that of cells in the control group. The expression levels of PERK and ATF4 in the hPDLCs after CCP treatment were higher than those of cells in the control group (P < 0.05) and increased over time (P < 0.05). The expression of eIF2α was lower in the experimental groups than in the control group (P < 0.05) and decreased over time (P < 0.05).
Conclusion
Mechanical stimulation can activate ERS in hPDLCs, leading to enhanced PERK-eIF2α-ATF4 signaling and inducing osteogenic differentiation.
4.Surveillance of Japanese encephalitis related mosquitoes in Mengla County, Yunnan Province

ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemic characteristics and trend of mosquito vectors related to Japanese encephalitis (JE) in Mengla County, and to provide scientific evidence for JE prevention and control. MethodsThe JE related mosquito vector monitoring data in Mengla County from 2016 to 2020 were collected and subjected to further statistical analysis. ResultsA total of 1 689 mosquitoes were captured at the JE mosquito vector monitoring sites in Mengla County, 36.3% of which were captured in 2020 and 13.3% in 2017. The density of Culex tritaeniorhynchus was the highest (3.04 per lamp per day), and that of Anopheles sinensis was the lowest (1.03 per lamp per day). The distribution of mosquito species showed significant difference in the same year. The mosquito density in pig house was 12.93 per lamp∙day, and that in human house was 4.67 per lamp∙day. The mosquito density of different mosquito species in pig house was higher than that in human house. There was no significant difference in the site distribution of Anopheles sinensis, but there were significant differences in the site distribution of Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus and other mosquito species. The mosquito density peaked in May (12.78 per lamp per day) and July (10.28 per lamp per day). The temporal distribution showed that the vector density decreased gradually from May to October, however, the species population structure also varied significantly, and the trends of each mosquito species also varied greatly. In Mengla, Culex tritaeniorhynchus peaked in May. ConclusionThe JE epidemic situation in Mengla County is still severe. It is recommended to strengthen prevention and control in the peak season of mosquito activities, such as actively carrying out patriotic health campaigns, and effective public education. At the same time, we should also strengthen the JE vaccination for school-age children and the training of medical personnel.
5.Traditional Chinese medicines and their active ingredients sensitize cancer cells to TRAIL-induced apoptosis.

The rapidly developing resistance of cancers to chemotherapy agents and the severe cytotoxicity of such agents to normal cells are major stumbling blocks in current cancer treatments. Most current chemotherapy agents have significant cytotoxicity, which leads to devastating adverse effects and results in a substandard quality of life, including increased daily morbidity and premature mortality. The death receptor of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) can sidestep p53-dependent pathways to induce tumor cell apoptosis without damaging most normal cells. However, various cancer cells can develop resistance to TRAIL-induced apoptosis via different pathways. Therefore, it is critical to find an efficient TRAIL sensitizer to reverse the resistance of tumor cells to TRAIL, and to reinforce TRAIL's ability to induce tumor cell apoptosis. In recent years, traditional Chinese medicines and their active ingredients have shown great potential to trigger apoptotic cell death in TRAIL-resistant cancer cell lines. This review aims to collate information about Chinese medicines that can effectively reverse the resistance of tumor cells to TRAIL and enhance TRAIL's ability to induce apoptosis. We explore the therapeutic potential of TRAIL and provide new ideas for the development of TRAIL therapy and the generation of new anti-cancer drugs for human cancer treatment. This study involved an extensive review of studies obtained from literature searches of electronic databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed. "TRAIL sensitize" and "Chinese medicine" were the search keywords. We then isolated newly published studies on the mechanisms of TRAIL-induced apoptosis. The name of each plant was validated using certified databases such as The Plant List. This study indicates that TRAIL can be combined with different Chinese medicine components through intrinsic or extrinsic pathways to promote cancer cell apoptosis. It also demonstrates that the active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicines enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to TRAIL-mediated apoptosis. This provides useful information regarding traditional Chinese medicine treatment, the development of TRAIL-based therapies, and the treatment of cancer.
