This study was aimed to investigate the mechanism of Jian-Pi Sheng-Xue (JPSX) granules on iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) rats.Low iron diet was given to establish IDA rat model.Rats were randomly divided into the model control group, normal control group,JPSX granules group,JPSX extract group and the ferrous sulfate group. The hematological indexes and serum ferritin were measured 10 days and 20 day after medication. The results showed that with iron supplements, the levels of hemoglobin (HGB),red blood cell (RBC),hematocrit (HCT) and serum ferritin of the JPSX granules group,JPSX extract group and the ferrous sulfate group were higher than those of the control group. The level of serum ferritin of the JPSX granules group was obviously higher than that of the JPSX extract group and the ferrous sulfate group (P < 0.01).It was concluded that compared with the control group,JPSX granules,JPSX extract and ferrous sulfate can improve symptoms of IDA in rats. And JPSX granules had the best effect.

This paper was aimed to study the dynamic changes of San-Ao(SA) decoction in different compatibility of ephedrine hydrochloride, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, amygdalin and glycyrrhizic acid.HPLC was used to simultaneously determinate the transfer rate of SA decoction of ephedrine hydrochloride, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, amygdalin and glycyrrhizic acid.Kromasil C18 (4.6 mm×250 mm,5μm) column was selected with methanol and 0.1% phosphoric acid as a mobile phase to gradient. The flow rate was 1 mL·min-1.The column temperature was 30℃.The injection volume was 10μL.Ephedrine hydrochloride, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and amygdalin were detected at the wavelength of 208 nm.The glycyrrhizic acid was detected at the wavelength of 250 nm.The results showed that the transfer rate of ephedrine hydrochloride in decoction was more than that of the single preparation. The transfer rate of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride was the highest in the combination of ephedra and bitter almond. The transfer rate of amygdalin was the highest in the combination of ephedra and bitter almond. The transfer rate of glycyrrhizic acid in decoction was more than that of the single preparation. It was concluded that there were dynamic changes in the boiling process during herbal decoction preparation. The effectiveness and stability of Chinese medicine should be improved according to these changes.

This study was aimed to establish a rapid discrimination method of Pinellia ternataand its adulterants based on the odour fingerprints analysis.Typhonium flagelliforme and Arisaema Rhizome, which were the common adulterants of Pinellia ternata, were collected. The adulterants were mixed with Pinellia ternatain different proportions.E-nose technology was used to obtain the odour fingerprints of Pinellia ternataand its adulterants of different types and proportions.Chemometrics methods, such as the analysis of variance (ANOVA),principal component analysis (PCA) and discriminant factor analysis (DFA) were used in the analysis and discrimination on sensors response data collected by sensors. The results showed that there were obvious differences on the odour characteristics between Pinellia ternateand its adulterants.PCA can obviously discriminate Pinellia ternateand its adulterants. And the odour difference became obvious along with the increasing of the adulteration proportion. There was a linear relationship between e-nose signal and the proportion of Typhonium flagelliforme. The cumulative proportion in ANOVA of the DFA model was 100%.The correct recognition rate was not less than 97%.It was concluded that e-nose can be used for rapid discrimination of Pinellia ternataand its adulterants. This study provided new technology and method for the discrimination of adulterants of Chinese materia medica.

Panax notoginseng (BurK.) F.H.Chen is a traditional Chinese medicinal material with a time-honored history of cultivation. There are a series of problems, such as high pesticide residues, serious disease and pest, and continuous cropping obstacles in the process of the cultivation of notoginseng.Pollution-free cultivation is an effective strategy for the sustainable development of notoginseng industry. We herein summarized three points of the pollution-free cultivation of notoginseng in this review. The standard of lands suitable for the cultivation of notoginseng was established on the basis of the analysis of medicinal plants around global producing areas. The integrated measures of soil improvement were put forward by cfficient rotation and soil disinfection with new varieties breeding combined with the management of water, light and fertilization, and the safe and low-toxic methods of disease and pest control.Additionally, the mode of wild tending should be carried out when the marker-assisted breeding of new varieties was developed, and the platform of comprehensive disease and pest control was founded.Above-mentioned points can effectively perfect and optimize the pollution-free cultivation of notoginseng and promote sustainable development of notoginseng industry.

This study aimed at exploring the application of microtox technology to the evaluation of comprehensive toxicity of Sheng Mai injections.Characteristic parameters of vibrio fischeri (CS234) were measured by methodology inspection under different conditions to optimize the reaction condition with reliable technology. It was the first experiment to accomplish the comprehensive toxicity of Sheng Mai injections from various manufacturers using vibrio fischeri under the target condition. It was found that parameters of the optimum condition contained 0.9 mL recovery liquid volume in each freeze-dried vial and 50 μ L bacteria suspension of each sample, being included in 2 mL solution in aggregate under 10 mins' detection time after adding bacteria suspension with the favorable pH value ranging from 5 to 10 and luminous intensity from 0.8 to 1.2 million within 10 mins. The relative standard deviation values of replication experiment and precision test were all below 15%.Under this optimum detection condition,it was found that the EC50 values were 22.10%,34.10% and 46.04%,respectively,presenting significant statistical differences (P<0.05).These results demonstrated that the growth of biological detection standards of Sheng Mai injection was highlighted a long way to go.Besides, the microtox-based fast test for the evaluation of the comprehensive toxicity of Sheng Mai injection showed a prospective application to controlling the quality of different products from manufacturers.

World Science and Technology-Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2016;18(11):1845-1854
Wogonoside, wogonin, baicalin and baicalein are major chemical constituents of S.baicalensis.Baicalin,baicalein and wogonin have been reported previously to exert anti-cancer effects. The present study compared the anti-cancer effects of the four flavonoids individually towards four human cancer cell lines after 24-and 48-hour treatment based on cell viability assay. As a result, wogonin inhibited the growth of the four cell lines. The IC50 values after 48 hours of incubation were 97.9 μM for A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells, while 15.3 μM for HeLa cervical carcinoma cells,147 μM for HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells and 104 μM for MCF-7 breast adenocarcinoma cells. In contrast, wogonoside, the glycoside of wogonin, showed no inhibitory effect against any one of the four cell lines.Baicalein inhibited the growth of HeLa cells, while baicalin inhibited the growth of HepG2 cells, both with higher IC50 values and less potent than wogonin. These findings established wogonin as the most active anti-cancer agent among the four major flavonoids of S.baicalensis.Since baicalin, the most abundant flavonoid in the herb, was found to enhance the growth of MCF-7 cells.Clinical applications of ingredients from S.baicalensis to the treatment of cancer should be carried out with purified compounds.
