This is the clinical studies of 171cases of acute poisoning in pediatric age which were visited at the emergency room of Han-gang Sacred Heart Hospital during the past 2 years and 5 months (Apr., 1974~Aug., 1976). The results were summerized as followings; 1. The incidence of acute poisoning among the emergency pediatric patients were 2.3%(171/7,310). 2. The sex ratio of male to female was 1.5:1. 3. The peak age group was 2 to 5 years of age (41.5%). 4. The peak incidence in a year was shown in August (17.5%) with prominence in summer season (47.3%). 5. The accidental poisoning was occured the most frequently from 4: 00 P.M. to 8:00P.M. during the day. 6. The motive of poisoning was mainly accidental causes (85.9%). 7. The most frequent causative substances were insecticides (29.8%) and then rodenticides (14%), D.D.S. (8.8%), reserpine (4.1%) were the next causes. 8. RH-787 poisoning were occured in 4 cases with the complication of diabetes mellitus 2 cases. 9. In poisonous plants, there were azalea (Rhododendron) poisoning (4 cases) and Gingko biloba Linne fruit poisoning (1 case).

The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the usefulness of intraoperative fine needle aspiration (FNA) of pancreatic lesions in 30 patients. A conclusive diagnosis was done in 27 patients and the diagnoses of three patients were deferred. No complications followed the procedure. Based on histologic findings of the resected specimens in 20 cases and of cell blocks in 10 cases, the final diagnoses were adenocarcinoma in 19 cases, chronic pancreatitis in nine cases and tuberculosis in two cases. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy were 95%, 100% and 96% resepectively and there were no false positives. The smear of aspirate was stained with toluidine blue and examined by light microscope. The presence of there-dimensional clusters of disoriented cells and the increased nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio with large prominent nucleoli were the most helpful criteria for a diagnosis of malignancy in the pancreas. The intraoperative FNA of pancreatic lesions was considered as a simple, safe, and highly specific and sensitive tool in differentiating benign from malignant lesions. The intraoperative FNA can be recommended as the first tool of choice of intraoperative diagnostic procedure in lesions of the pancreas.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 2001;8(1):62-70
Alzheimer's disease(AD) is associated with a characteristic neuropathology. The major hallmarks of AD are senile plaques(SPs) and neurofibrillary tangles(NFTs). beta-amyloid protein(Abeta) is derived from the proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein(APP) and then converted to SPs. Mature SPs produce cytotoxicity through direct toxic effects and activation of microglia and complement. NFTs are composed of paired helical filaments(PHFs) including abnormally phosphorylated form of the microtubule-associated protein(MAP) tau and increased tau level in cerebrospinal fluid may be observed in most AD. The aggregation of Abeta and tau formation are thought to be a final common pathway of AD. Acetycholine, dopamine, serotonin, GABA and their receptors are associated with AD. Especially, decreased nicotinic acetylcholine receptors(nAChRs) in AD are reported. Genetic lesions associated with AD are mutations in the structural genes for the APP located on chromosome 21, presenilin(PSN)1 located on chromosome 14 and PSN2 located on chromosome 1. Also, trisomy 21, Apo-E gene located on chromosome 19, PMF locus, low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein and alpha-macroglobulin increase risk of AD. In this article, we will review about the neurobioloby of AD and some newly developed research areas.

The combined congenital malformation of partiaI or complete absence of the pectoralis main muscle and webbing of the fingers, on the same side, was first described by Poland in 1841. The syndrome is not hereditary and is of unknown origin and is affects male more frequently than female. The clinical features are variable but always include congenital aplasia of the stemorostal head of the pectoralls major muscle and syndactyly. The syndectely should be treated by the age of one year and complened before the preschool age. A case of Poland's syndrome is presented with a brief review of literatures.

8.Factors associated with the person-centered care competence of nursing students
Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education 2022;28(1):48-56
Purpose:
The main purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing person-centered care competence in nursing students.
Methods:
The study was conducted in two universities located in the D and J cities of South Korea. Participants were 130 senior nursing students who had experienced clinical practice for at least 3 months. Data were collected from September 7-10, 2019, using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using a hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 23.0.
Results:
The Factor influencing person-centered care competence was compassion competence (β=.49, p<.001) and the explanatory power of this variable was 30% (F=10.98, p<.001).
Conclusion
According to the results of this study, nursing faculties need to develop programs and learning content to enhance learners’ compassion competence for promotion of person-centered care competence.
9.Serum levels of free insulin-like growth factor-I and clinical value in healthy children.
Young Hee CHUNG ; Woo Yeong CHUNG
Korean Journal of Pediatrics 2008;51(1):47-53
Background: The serum levels of total insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I and IGF binding protein (IGFBP)-3 reflect endogenous growth hormone (GH) secretion in healthy children. Free form of IGF-I which is suggested to have more potent biological action than complex form of IGF-I. The aim of this study is to investigate the serum levels of free IGF-I and its clinical value in healthy children. METHODS: Serum levels of total IGF-I and IGFBP-3 were determined in 494 healthy children (248 boys and 246 girls) by RIA and IRMA. Serum level of free IGF-I was determined in 206 healthy children (103 boys and 103 girls) by IRMA. RESULTS: The free IGF-I level increased with age in both sex. The free IGF-I level increased continuously between 7 and 15 years of age in boys, but decrement was noted after 14 years of age in girls. Serum total IGF-I level also increased with age in similar pattern of that of free IGF-I. There were no significant differences of mean values of the ratio of free IGF-I/total IGF-I in relation to age in both sex. And there were significant correlations between the level of free IGF-I and total IGF-I and the ratio of total IGF-I/IGFBP-3, respectively. CONCLUSION: In healthy children, serum free IGF-I increased with age in both sex and high free IGF-I level may play an important role in pubertal growth spurt. Our results suggest that the increased serum free IGF-I level in puberty may reflect changes in total IGF-I rather than IGFBP-3. But free IGF-I does not have more clinical value than total IGF-I because of no significant differences of mean values of the ratio of free IGF-I/total IGF-I in relation to age.

Korean Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine 2000;12(3):356-366
OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to compare health value cognition and health promotion behavior compliance between healthy group and not being healthy group, and to evaluate the difference of health promotion behaviors compliance between high group and low group in health value cognition. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 565 workers, 233 healthy workers, 172 observation cases and 160 disease cases, selected from 4,919 transit coporations workers. RESULTS: In health promoting behavior compliance, not being healthy group showed lower level than healthy group in exercise and showed higher level than healthy group in interpersonal support significantly. A worker who replied on health as the most value in life was consisted in 37.3% of healthy group and 36. 1% of not being healthy group, Health value cognition according to general characteristics showed no significant difference except only variable of age in healthy group. Health promoting behavior compliance according to cognition of health value showed in healthy group that a high level group of health value cognition was more significant difference than a low level group in self actualization and health responsibility of health promoting behavior and didn't show difference significantly in not being healthy group. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the relationship between health value cognition, health promotion behavior compliance and periodic health examination results showed weakly. Therefore, in order to develop and apply spontaneous health promotion program, it was considered that should emphasize compliance than cognition.
