Annals of Dermatology 1996;8(1):30-33
A 25 year old man presinted with erythematous and inderated plaques on the upper and lower extermities that were preceded by insect bites while traveling in central Africa. The patient had a past histrory of Kimura's disease, asthma, and allergic rhinitis, Histologic examination revealed panniculitls showing massive eosinophilic infiltration. The dermis showed eosinopbilic infilreatiom without flame figyres. The patient responded well to oral conrticosteroids. This patient did not fit the diagnosis of eosinoplilic pannicylitis, eosinophilic cellylitis, hypereosinophilic syndrome or eosinophilic vascylitis.

Authors have performed patch test to evaluate the differences between the allergic contact dermatitis to topical medicaments and to the other substances including cosmetics. One hundred eighteen patients were evaluated according to age, sex, and causative agents of the disease. Furthermore, these patients were analysed as to the causative allergic contact factors by clinical inspection and history. The most common causative allergic contact factors by clinical, history and patch test were topical medicarnents(45.8%), cosmetics(24. 6%), rubbery(10.2%), and metals(8.59%.). The common etiogloic medicaments of contact dermatitis were Madecassol, Betadin, Tiger balm, Canesten, Mercurochrom, and Tego solution. The causative agents were confirmed by the patch test with Hollister-Stiers standard allergens in 57 patients from Jan. 1983 to Dec. 1984, 1 hirty eight among 57 patients were positive to patch test, Back ground possible explanation of the patch test results were discussed and a comparison was made between this report and others.

Journal of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons 2008;35(2):115-120
PURPOSE: Oncostatin M(OSM) is a multifunctional cytokine that belongs to the interleukin(IL)-6 family. Although there have been a number of studies that focused on the role and mechanism of OSM in various organs and tissues, there are few reports on its effect on wound healing. The final purpose of this project is to evaluate the effect of OSM on wound healing. This pilot study was designed to investigate the effect of OSM on proliferation and matrix synthesis of human dermal fibroblasts, which are the major components of the wound healing. METHODS: Excess skin that was obtained from patients who underwent skin grafts, was used for this study. From this material, fibroblasts were isolated and cultured. The cultured fibroblasts were treated with one of four concentrations of OSM. The OSM concentrations used were 0, 50, 100, and 200ng/ml, respectively. After the OSM treatment, cell proliferation was determined by the MTT assay, collagen synthesis by the C1CP method, GAG levels by the Blyscan Dye method. The parameter levels of each group were compared. RESULTS: OSM treatment increased all the components tested in the study. In particular, cell proliferation, GAG synthesis demonstrated statistically significant increases(p<0.05 in the Mann-Whitney U-test). The highest increase in all the components was obtained at a 100ng/ml concentration of OSM. CONCLUSION: The results of the present study indicate that OSM stimulates proliferation and matrix synthesis of human dermal fibroblast and the optimal concentration for wound healing is 100ng/mL.

An open clinical trial was performed to test the efficacy and side effects of Pravastatin(Mevlotin(R)), HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, administering 5mg twice daily for 12weeks in 30 patients of hypercholesterolemia in out patient clinics, Pusan National University Hospital. The total cholesterol, triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol were measured with enzyme methods and LDL-cholesterol was calculated indirectly by Friedewald formula. The result obtained were as follows: 1) The degree of change at the end points compared with baseline pretreatment levels were 26.1% fall in serum total cholesterol.36.6% fall in LDL-cholesterol, 20.8% fall in triglyceride and 14, 6% rise in HDL-cholesterol. And the rate of improvement more than moderate degree were 90.0% in total cholesterol(the fall of 10% or more), 53.3% in triglyceride (the fall 20% or more) and 33.3% in HDL-cholesterol(the rise of 7mg% or more). 2) The total cholesterol/HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratios were decreased significantly from 6, 4+/-0.7 to 4.2+/-0.5(34.4%) and from 4.5+/-0.7 to 2.5 +/-0.4(44.4%) respectively. 3) The greatest fall in serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were observed in 2 weeks after administrating drug and thereafter fell gradually and maintained until 12 weeks of endpoint, but HDL-cholesterol showed significant rise from the 4 weeks of administration. On the other hand triglyceride showed remarkable fall in the measured values from the 4 weeks but statistical significance was observed only in 10 and 12 weeks after administration owing to wide individual variation of values. 4) There observed the tendency that the higher the initial pretreatment levels the greater the degree of fall in total cholesterol and triglyceride. 5) Neither side effects nor abnormal laboratory findings were shown during the period of observation. The results suggest that Pravastatin will be a useful and safe drug in the treatment of hyperlipidemia.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1996;34(5):705-709
BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is an acquired disorder with destruction of melanocytes and clinically characterized by a progressive clinical course. OBJECTIVE: The significance of various epidemiological factors related to the progression of vitiligo were investigated. METHODS: A clinical study was done on 400 patients who had visited the Vitiligo Clinic of Severance Hospital. Questionaires regarding progression, sex, family history, clinical type, Koebner's isomorphic phenomenon, onset age, and duration of disease were recorded. RESULTS: There was significant progression of vitiligo in patients with family history, nonsegmental type, Koebner's isomorphic phenomenon and long duration. CONCLUSION: Some epidemiologic factors are relevant in predicting the progression of vitiligo.

The relation of atopic dermatitis to various manifestations of ocular disease has been documented in the dermatologic literature. Several lines of evidence suggest that patients with atopic dermatitis have defective ceil-mediated immunity and decreased cellular hypersensitivity. In this paper, we presented two cases of atopic dermatitis developing ocular complication and abnormal immune response in vivo and in vitro during the course of atopic dermatitis.
