Viruses including baculoviruses are obligatory parasites, as their genomes do not encode all the proteins required for replication. Therefore, viruses have evolved to exploit the behavior and the physiology of their hosts and often eoevolved with their hosts over millions of years. Recent comparative analyses of complete genome sequences of baculoviruses revealed the patterns of gene acquisitions and losses that have occurred during baculovirus evolution. In addition, knowledge of virus genes has also provided understanding of the mechanism of baculovirus infection including replication, species-specific virulence and host range. The Bm8 gene of Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (NPV) and its homologues are found only in group I NPV genomes. The Autographa californica NPV Acl6 gene is a homologue of Bm8 and, encodes a viral structural protein. It has been shown that Bm8/Ac 16 interacts with baculoviral and cellular proteins. Bm8/Ac 16 interacts with baculoviral IE1 that is facilitated by coiled coil domains, and the interaction with IE1 is important for Bin8 function. Ac16 also forms a complex with viral FP25 and cellular actin and associates with membranes via palmitoylation. These data suggested that this gene family encodes a multifunctional protein that accomplishes specific needs of group INPVs.

BACKGROUND: The efficacy and safety of daily maintenance treatment with an adapalene-benzoyl peroxide (adapalene-BPO) fixed-dose combination gel is established in acne vulgaris in adults. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of twice-per-week maintenance therapy with an adapalene-BPO combination gel for acne vulgaris in adults. METHODS: All patients applied the adapalene-BPO combination gel once daily during the initial 8 weeks. Subsequently, the patients were randomized into two groups. The maintenance group applied the ointment twice-per-week for 12 weeks of maintenance treatment, while the control group discontinued treatment after the initial 8 weeks active treatment. The changes in the mean numbers of total, inflammatory, and non-inflammatory lesions were assessed. RESULTS: During maintenance treatment, the changes in the average numbers of total and inflammatory lesions in the maintenance group differed significantly from the control group. CONCLUSION: Twice-per-week application of an adapalene-BPO combination gel after active treatment appears to be a good option for the maintenance therapy of acne vulgaris in adults.

7.Pigmented Perivascular Epithelioid Cell Tumor (PEComa) of the Kidney: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Heavily pigmented perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComa) are rare, only eight cases of which have been reported. Unlike typical epithelioid angiomyolipoma, most of these tumors have been encountered in female patients without tuberous sclerosis. The long-term prognosis thereof is undetermined. Cytological similarity and heavy melanin pigment make it difficult for pigmented PEComa to be differentiated from pigmented clear cell renal cell carcinoma or malignant melanoma. The immunoprofile of tumor cells, such as human melanoma black-45 expression, as well as the absence or presence of other melanocytic or epithelial markers, are helpful in determining a differential diagnosis. Here we report a case of heavily pigmented PEComa of the right kidney and review the literature describing this tumor. In this case, the immunoprofile and clinical features corresponded well to those described in the literature. Since the prognosis of such disease has not yet been established, close follow-up of this patient was recommended.

8.Relationship between Clinical Outcomes and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Time in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction Treated by Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation-Assisted Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support is increasingly used in primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to treat acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients who experienced cardiogenic shock. However, to date, there have been no studies on the relationship between clinical outcomes and CPR time in such patients with AMI treated by ECMO-assisted primary PCI. METHODS: From July 2008 to March 2016, we analyzed data from 42 AMI with cardiogenic shock patients who underwent CPR and were treated by ECMO-assisted primary PCI. The primary outcome was 30-day in-hospital mortality after primary PCI. The predictors of mortality were determined using a Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS: Thirty-day in-hospital mortality was observed for 33 patients (78.6%). The mean CPR time was 37.0±37.3 minutes. The best cut-off CPR time value associated with clinical outcome was calculated to be 12.5 minutes using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Multivariate analysis revealed that CPR time of > 12.5 minutes was an independent predictor of 30-day mortality (adjusted hazard ratio, 4.71; 95% confidence interval, 1.30–17.406; p=0.018). CONCLUSIONS: Despite ECMO support, the clinical outcomes of AMI patients with a complication of cardiogenic shock remain poor. Prolonged CPR time is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with AMI treated by ECMO-assisted primary PCI.

10.Prognostic Significance of Heat Shock Protein 70 Expression in Early Gastric Carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Overexpression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) has been observed in many types of cancer including gastric adenocarcinomas, although the exact role of HSP70 in carcinogenesis remains unclear. METHODS: The study analyzed a total of 458 radical gastrectomy specimens which were immunohistochemically stained with HSP70, p53, and Ki-67 antibodies. RESULTS: The study determined that the expression of HSP70 was significantly increased in early gastric cancer (EGC) compared to advanced gastric cancer (p<0.001). The HSP70 expression was correlated with well-differentiated tumor type, intestinal type of Lauren classification and the lower pT and pN stage. Negative expression of Ki-67 and p53 expression was associated with poor prognosis. The study did not find any correlation between HSP70 and p53 expression. The study determined that HSP70 expression in the EGC subgroup was associated with a poor prognosis (p=0.009), as well as negative Ki-67 expression (p=0.006), but was not associated with p53. Based on multivariate analysis, HSP70 expression (p=0.024), negative expression of Ki-67, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis were determined to be independent prognostic markers. CONCLUSIONS: HSP70 is expressed in the early stages of gastric adenocarcinoma. In EGC, HSP70 is a poor independent prognostic marker and is correlated with a low proliferation index.
