2.Study on the Attitude to Home Attendants System and Home Nursing Education of the Housewives in the City.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1988;21(2):380-389
This study was conducted in order to find out the attitude of housewives toward the home attendants system, the type of institute managing home attendants, the education for home attendants, the basic requisites for home attendants, and home nursing education, and identify the factors influencing on the housewives's attitude. The data were collected through questionnaires obtained from 401 housewives from March 1 to March 31, 1988. The results summarized were as follows; 1) 90.2 percent of total housewives favored the home attendants system, and housewives who had have their family member with health problem especially showed favorable response. 2) The favored types of institution managing home attendants appeared to be private social work agency(33.0%), half-private and half-public agency(32.2%), government agency(19.9%) and profit agency(2.2%). In particular, housewives who had experienced nursing favored half-private and half-public agency(37.6%). 3) As the basic requisites for home attendants, housewives wanted service attitude(37.2%), nursing education(34.4%) and nursing experience(28.4%). But, housewives with nursing experience favored nursing education rather than service attitude. 4) 91.1% of total housewives favored the home nursing education. In particular, housewives of high education level and nursing experience showed more favorable response to the home nursing education.

Two cases of congenital multiple joint laxity are reported here. One was a 18-year-old boy, in whom the hypermobility of the joints was striking that 4 criterias (Carter & Wilkinson, 1964) could be observed. The other was a 18-year-old male who showed positive findings in three of the five diagnostic criterias. In both no familiar occurrence was noted.

Korean Circulation Journal 1997;27(1):78-85
OBJECTIVES: This study evaluates the change of the left atrial appendage function before and after electrical cardioversion to understand the mechanism involved in systemic thromboembolism of atrial fibrillation. BACKGROUND: Systemic thromboembolism associated with electrical cardioversion of atrial fibrillation is thought to originate from the left atrium or left atrial appendage, or both. However, the mechanism involved is poorly understood. METHOD: We studied left atrial appendage function funcction with transesophageal echocardiography in 15 patients with atrial fibrillation before and after successful electrical cardioversion. We measured left atrial appendage emptying and filling velocities and left atrial appendage areas. Also we analysed the characteristic Dopper flow pattern of LAA. RESULT: Left atrial appendage emptying velocities before cardioversion were greater in patients without(32.0+/-13.2cm/sec) than in those with(21.4+/-7.6cm/sec) spontaneous echo contrast(SEC). Furthermore emptying velocities after cardioversion were significantly reduced group with (21.4+/-7.6 vs 12.2+/-9.6, p<0.05) and the groupwithout(32.0+/-13.2 vs 18.1+/-10.2, p<0.05)SEC. CONCLUSION: After electrical cardioversion for atrial fibrillation left atrial appendage function is impaired. These observations suggest that stunned left atrial appendage after cardioversion may predispose to thrombus formation, which may play a role in the mechanism involved in the occurrence of thromboembolism after cardioversion.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1993;31(5):765-768
Mycetoma is a clinical syndrome of localized, indolent, deforming, swollen lesions and sinuses, involving cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues, fascia, and bone. Its lesions. are composed of suppurat.ing abscesses, granulomata, and dra ning sinuses and the etiologic agents are wide variety of bacteria (actinomycotic mycetoma) and fungi(eumcotic mycetoma) from plant and soil. The patient was a 65-year-old female and a farnier. She was referred by the skin lesion loalized on the dorsum of her lefther left hand and wrist for three months. It showed multiple subcutaneclis nodules, abscesses, and discharging fitula based on the erythematous plaque. The skin biopsy frorn the lesion revealed the PAS positive hyphae in the granulocytic infiltration. Fungus cult, ure with a piece of tissue on sabouraud media shows hin, floccose, white colonies. Slide culture and biochemical idcrtification of pathogen led to the final diagnosis as Mycetoma caused by Pseudallescheria boydii(Monosporium apiospermum). The lesions disappeared gradualy following systemic oral administratior of Itraconazole 200mg daily for six weeks.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1982;20(2):335-339
Weber-Christian diaease is characterized by recurrent crops of subcutaneous nodules or plaques which occur during febrile periods and usually has spontaneous regression. Since the earlier case reports there have been instances of nodular panniculitis affecting visceral fat as well as the subcutaneous tissue. Death may rarely occur follow ing visceral involvement. We experienced a fatal case of Weber-Christian disease in a 32 year old female, who had prominent hepatomegaly and leukopenia accompanied by various general symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and cough. This case also had unusually large erythematous swelling of the face and aMomen in addition to multiple subcutaneous nodules in the extremities and trunk.
