4.Demand and real situation of using primary health services by woman in villages
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2005;15(2):5-10
The studied was conducted to assess the health care demand and use primary health services in the communes of 10 provinces representing for 7 ecological areas countryside: Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Bac Can, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, Dac Lac, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Can Tho. There are statistically significant differences of morbidity rate as well as health service use in genders, in ecological areas and in different economic levels. Morbidity rate in woman is higher than in men and the rate increases proportionally following older age. There are genders inequalities in using health services, especially among poor households. Women are more likely to seek self-treatment while men seeks higher quality of health care services in hospital. The different is statistically significant.

Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences 2016;23(1):63-71
Background: This study assessed the knowledge and attitudes of medical nurses regarding oral health and oral health care of pregnant women. Methods: This cross sectional study of 133 nurses in the district of Tumpat, Kelantan (Malaysia) used self-administered questionnaires. Results: Most nurses knew that dental plaque is associated with periodontal disease (97.7%). However, most nurses erroneously believed that tooth decay (86.5%) and excessive sugar consumption (87.2%) led to periodontal disease. About half of the nurses knew about the relationship between periodontal disease of pregnant women and low birth weight (43.6%) and preterm birth (48.9%). Many nurses had the misconception that the developing foetus draws calcium from the mothers’ teeth (78.2%). Most nurses had good attitudes toward improving their oral health knowledge (97.0%) and agreed they should help to deliver oral health education to pregnant women (94.0%). Age, length of service as a nurse, and length of service in antenatal care had no effect on the scores for the nurses’ knowledge and attitude regarding oral health and oral health care of pregnant women. Conclusion: Medical nurses had limited knowledge about oral health of pregnant women and had some misunderstandings about oral health, although they had good attitudes. Age, length of service as a nurse, and length service in antenatal care had no effect on the knowledge and attitude scores of the nurses.

7.The Contribution of Maternal-Fetal Attachment: Taegyo, Maternal Fatigue and Social Support during Pregnancy.
Child Health Nursing Research 2014;20(4):247-254
PURPOSE: Maternal-fetal attachment in a pregnant woman is important for her health and for her child's emotional stability. This study was done to identify the contribution of maternal fatigue, social support, and Taegyo to maternal-fetal attachment based on a survey of pregnant women. METHODS: The study was a descriptive correlation study. Participants were 211 from two women's health clinic centers. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: Mean scores for maternal-fetal attachment, Taegyo, maternal fatigue, and social support were 93.74 (range 25-125), 64.76 (17-85), 24.12 (10-40), and 54.43 (22-132), respectively. There were significant differences in maternal-fetal attachment according to parity, breast feeding experience, and putting prenatal education into practice. Multiple regression analysis showed that the key determinants of maternal-fetal attachment, were Taegyo (beta=.67), maternal fatigue (beta=.21), and social support (beta=.13), and these explained 55% of the total variance of attachment. CONCLUSION: The results suggest a need to encourage Taegyo in prenatal management program and provide methods for fatigue resolution and promotion of social support.

8.A study on the Values of Total Serum Cholesterol in Healthy Non-Pregnant and Pregnant Women.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1990;23(2):167-177
The author investigated the values of total serum cholesterol and its correlation with the physical factors to have potential as a line in the chain of basic investigation to establish maternal health program. The study group was composed of 167 healthy non-pregnant and 209 pregnant women in the age of 20-39 residing in Pusan area. The obtained results were as follows: 1. No significant differences were found in height and systolic and diastolic blood pressure in both groups except for the elevation of Broca's index by gaining the weight in pregnant women. 2. There were significant differences in the total serum cholesterol level of the healthy and pregnant women as 165.9 and 212.6 mg/dl, respectively, not showing the differences in the age. Total serum cholesterol values in both group followed approximately normal distrubution curve. 3. The significant correlation to the values of total serum cholesterol were found between weight and Broca's index in healthy women and between weight, Broca's index and duration of pregnancy in pregnant women. 4. The values of total serum cholesterol in pregnant women showed increasing tendency with the duration of pregnancy as 168.1 in 12 weeks and below, 209.6 mg/dl in 13-26 weeks and 235.4 mg/dl in 27 weeks and above group. Total serum cholesterol values by duration of pregnancy followed normal distribution curve.

9.An algorithm to estimate age in women during their childbearing years
Papua New Guinea medical journal 1994;37(1):23-28
Estimating age in women living in rural areas of Papua New Guinea can be inaccurate and subject to observer bias. Parity is often used, but this means that survey results cannot be used to examine the effect of childbearing on nutrition. We describe a method for estimating age in women independent of their parity developed during studies of women's health in the Wosera Subdistrict of Papua New Guinea. The tool, appropriately modified, may be useful to others conducting surveys requiring an estimate of maternal age.

Child Health Nursing Research 2019;25(4):398-405
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to examine the relationships among the perceptions and practice of taegyo (a traditional set of practices and beliefs related to healthy fetal development) and maternal-fetal attachment in pregnant women.METHODS: The participants were 136 pregnant women who visited a public health center or maternity hospital for prenatal care. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, analysis of varience, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS version 22.0.RESULTS: The mean age of the pregnant women was 32.24±3.99 years. The mean scores for perceptions of taegyo, practice of taegyo, and maternal-fetal attachment were 3.96±0.53, 3.74±0.64, and 3.94±0.49, respectively. Perceptions of taegyo were significantly correlated with the practice of taegyo (r=.72, p<.001), and maternal-fetal attachment (r=.55, p<.001). A significant correlation was also found between the practice of taegyo and maternal-fetal attachment (r=.65, p<.001).CONCLUSION: Perceptions of taegyo affected the practice of taegyo, and had a positive effect on maternal-fetal attachment. These findings suggest that primary care nurses at hospitals and public health centers should provide nursing intervention programs to improve the perceptions of taegyo, the practice of taegyo, and maternal-fetal attachment.
