2.A Comparison Study on Perception of Body Image and Dietary Habits of High School Students between Urban and Rural Areas.
Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2008;13(2):153-163
The objective of this research was to study the differences between urban and rural areas high school students in body image and dietary habits. The number of subjects in Seoul and Kyungkido were 902. Based on self-reported height and weight, there was no significant difference between the urban and rural students. However, the rate of obesity was significantly higher in males, whereas the rate of underweight was significantly higher in females, especially for urban females (p < 0.05). Their ideal body image ratio as skinny or slender-type was 91.6% (urban) and 95.7% (rural) for male category while 100% (urban) and 99.4% (rural) for females. Urban females had a strong preference for a skinny body (p < 0.05). Rural students were more highly interested in weight control than urban students were, but they appeared not to care their health. In addition, they had significantly lower levels of weight control knowledge and dietary attitude score (p < 0.001). Subjective assessment of body weight appeared to be more important in terms of body satisfaction, weight control knowledge and dietary attitude than actual measurement of body mass index. Significant test revealed that weight control knowledge was related to dietary attitude (p < 0.01). (p < 0.01).

For cervical cancer, the combination chemotherapy could increase the trial of radical hysterectomy due to reduction in tumor volume even in advanced stage and help to decrease corrected dose of radiotherapy. It also reduces postoperative radiotherapy to avoid the side effect and therefore make the quality of life better. Cisplatin chemotherapy alone was known to result in objective response rates of 20%. Todays animal experiment studies stated that Ifosfamide could accelerate the efficacy of Cisplatin. Thus in this study, neoadjuvant chemotherapy was applied to those cervical cancer patients in the use of the combination chemotherapy including Ifosfamide, PI(Cisplatin+ Ifosfamide) and PAIB(Cisplatin+ Ifosfamide+ Adriamycin+ Bleomycin). A total of 43 patients were entered in this trial, 23(53%) achieved at least a 50% reduction in tumor volume, 20(47%) showed no change. After completion of combination chemotherapy, 30(70%) of the 43 were done radical hysterectomy, 13(30%) given to radiotherapy. 9(30%) of the 30 patients were applied postoperative radiation therapy. Nausea and vomiting occurred in 35 of the 43 patients(81%) and alopecia 15(34%) for toxicity. Severe CNS toxicity(Grade 4) was detected in one patient. This study suggest that Ifosfamide combination chemotherapy is effective in tumor reduction and minimal toxity and can performed radical operation in cases of large tumor volume.

Journal of the Korean Knee Society 2000;12(1):147-150
A hemangioma in the knee joint of a 13-year-old girl was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging. There was pain and a tender localized swelling around to the patellar tendon. Arthroscopy verified the diagnosis but did not allow visualization of the full extent of the tumor. After arthroscopic excision of the associated hypertrophic medial plica, a miniarthrotomy was done. The tumor was attached to the periph-ery of the anterior horn of the medial meniscus, the anterior tibial plateau, and the fat pad. Its origin was from the venous plexus just below the anterior lip of the central tibial plateau. The patient was asympto-matic one and a half years after surgery. If the case is not amenable to arthroscopic surgery, open excision through miniarthrotomy ensures complete removal of the hemangiomas without recurrence.

PURPOSE: To analyse the expression of the p53 tumour suppressor gene in the synovial tissue from rheumatoid patients. Material and Methods : Synovial membranes were obtained from 13 patients diagnosed as having RA, and 9 osteoarthritis (OA) patients. We studied p53 expression by immunohistochemical analysis and p53 DNA sequence using direct DNA preparation method. RESULT: In immunohistological studies, the Do-1 monoclonal antibody stained at 6 specimens out of the 13 rheumatoid arthritis tissue biopsies analysed. There was no p53 mutation in osteoarthritis samples, but there were 4 p53 mutations from the 13 rheumatoid arthritis samples. p53 mutations were found at the codon 177 (CTG to CTA, GA), 277 (TGT to TGC, TC), and, two patients at the codon 237 (CAT to TAT, CT). CONCLUSION: The predicted amino acid substitutions in p53 were similar to those commonly observed in a variety of tumors and might influence growth and survival of rheumatoid synoviocytes.

6.Structure of heavy and light chains of blood coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) involved in the activation of FVIII.

Experimental & Molecular Medicine 1997;29(2):97-102
Structure of human blood coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) in relation to its activation process was investigated. FVIII was purified from a commercial FVIII concentrate by immunoaffinity chromatography and its dissociated subunits, heavy and light chains were isolated. The light chain (FVIII-L) was treated with thrombin or factor Xa (FXa) in order to cleave the peptide at Aug(1689) or Arg(1721), respectively, Reassociation of FVIII-H with either of FVIII-L derivatives, FVIII-L-72 (72 kDa) and FVIII-L-65 (65 kDa) brought about the formation of heterodimers which have similar cofactor activity. The association constant of FVIII-H with FVIII-L-72 was about two-fold faster than that with FVIII-L-65, Cleavage of major FVIII-H with thrombin generated two peptides with molecular weights of 50 kDa (A(1)) and 40 kDa (A(2)) Formation of heterotrimer by reassociation of A(1), A(2) and FVIII-L-72-generated FVIII cofactor activity, while the dimers formed from A(1) or A(2) with FVIII-L-72 had no activity, suggesting that both A(1) and A(2) are required for FVIII activity, Heterotrimers formed from A(1) and A(2) with either of FVIII-L-72 or FVIII-L-65 in the presence of CaCl2 (10 mM) revealed cofactor activity, and they were dissociated into subunits with the loss of activity when EDTA (10 mM) was added, indicating that the formation of heterotrimer, the functional unit of FVIII, from A1, A(2) and FVIII-L is calcium dependent and that the cleavage of FVIII-L by FXa does not inactivate FVIII.

Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine 2017;14(3):221-231
A material for ridge preservation should have dimensional stability to resist bio-degradation. This study was designed to compare bio-degradation of ridge preservation materials. Collagen plug was used as a positive control. Untreated, ethanol-treated, and 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR)-treated silk plugs were used for the experimental group. Each material underwent a scanning electron microscopic exam and a Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic exam. Bio-degradation was evaluated by analyzing cylindrical bony defects in rabbit tibias. There were no prominent differences in microstructure among the silk plug groups. FT-IR exam demonstrated that the ethanol- and 4HR-treated silk plug groups had enhanced β-sheet structure. All silk plug groups exhibited significantly higher residual graft than the collagen plug group 4 weeks postoperative (p<0.05). In conclusion, silk fibroin-based ridge preservation material was less bio-degradable than a collagen plug until at least 4 weeks after grafting.
