Objective To evaluate the biological compatibility of dental nano-silicon dioxide/high-strength-glass fiber/EAM resin composites(FRC). Methods Experiments of general acute toxicity, cytotoxicity, hemolysis and mucous membrane irritation were performed on the newly developed FRC. Results The newly developed FRC induced no cytotoxicity, hemolysis, acute toxicity or mucous membrane irritation. Conclusion The newly developed FRC has good biocompatibility in vitro and vivo.

AIM: To establish an animal model of experimental autoimmune myocarditis (EAM) in BALB/c mice and to investigate the expression and significance of Toll-like receptor 3 in mouse EAM. METHODS: BALB/c mice were immunized with cardiac myosin extracted from porcine ventricular myocardium covered by complete freund's adjuvant (CFA) on 0 d and 7 d, then divided into immunized with CFA only. Serum and myocardium samples were collected at 14 d and 21 d after the first immunization. HE staining was used to identify the areas of inflammation. The myosin IgG antibody was examined by indirect ELISA assay. The changes of TLR3 protein and mRNA expression in myocardial tissue were measured by immunohistochemistry and real time-PCR. RESULTS: Compared to control group, immunohistochemistry results showed that there was positive expression of TLR3 in the myocardium of mice with EAM and the mRNA of TLR3 were more than 20 times (P<0.05). The expression of interferon beta mRNA in EAM group was more than 14 times as many as basal expression, that of tumor necrosis factor alpha was more than 18 times (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The expression of Toll-like receptor 3 in myocardium is up-regulated in experimental autoimmune myocarditis. The inflammatory response to cardiac myosin may associate with the TLR3 signal transduction pathway.

Objective To explore the current situation of the prevalence of hypertension among residents in our city and to analyze its risk factors, so as to provide references for formulating preventive measures. Methods All 600 residents(300 each for male and female) who received physical examination in the outpatient department in our hospital from June 2013 to June 2014 were selected according to random sample. Questionnaire with the form of one-on-one inter-view was applied for the investigation. Awareness rate, control rate and treatment rate of hypertension among different genders and ages were analyzed. The patients were divided into disease group and healthy group, and risk factors were analyzed. Results Among 600 residents received physical examination, 156 patients had hypertension. The prevalence rate, awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate were 26%, 54.49%, 50% and 20.51% respectively, and the dif-ferences could be seen between genders and ages. Differences of smoking, heavy drinking, high-salt diet, obesity, high blood sugar and abnormal blood lipid compared between healthy people and patients could be seen. The above factors were risk factors for hypertension. Conclusion Awareness rate, control rate and treatment rate of hypertension among residents in our city were relatively low. Publicity and education should be properly strengthened based on the characteristics of gender and age groups of the residents,so as to reduce the harm of hypertension.
