Objective To study the inhibition activity of volatile oil from Mappianthus iodoies on SPC-A-1 and BEL-7402 cancer cells. Methods The volatile oil in Mappianthus iodoie was extracted by SFE-CO2.MTT assay was employed to test the antitumor effect of volatile oil from Mappianthus iodoies in two kinds of malignant tumor cell lines, with IC50 applied to evaluate the degree of inhibition activity. Results When the dose of volatile oil from Mappianthus iodoies was 200 μg/ml,the inhibition ratios of the tumor cell was in excess of 50%,the IC50 was 169.54,695.21 μg/ml respectively. Conclusion Volatile oil from Mappianthus iodoies extracted by SFE-CO2 has obvious inhibition activity on SPC-A-1 and BEL-7402 cancer cells.

Objective To establish HPLC determination method and impurity profile of the related substances in metronidazole. Methods A Welch Ultimate(R)XB-C1s (4.6 mm× 250 mm,5 μm)was used with a mobile phase consisting of methanol-1.36 g· L-1 solution of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (20∶ 80).The detection wavelength was 315 nm and the flow rate was 1 mL· min-1.Its related substances were determined by principal component self-contrast method. Results Good separation of metronidazole and the impurities could be achieved.Twenty batches of samples in the past six years were determined which meet quality standards. The study of impurity profiles could effectively monitor the synthetic process and the change of impurities in metronidazole. Conclusion The method is simple, quick and sensitive, which can be used to control the related substances in metronidazole.Meanwhile, the impurity profiles ensure the quality stability of metronidazole.

A HPLC-QTOF MS method was established for analysis of components in Ophiocordyceps sinensis . The HPLC analysis was performed on an Agilent Zorbax SB Aq (150 mmí4.6 mm, 5 μm) with gr adient elution (5 mmol·L-1 ammonium acetate aqueous solution-acetonitrile), flow rate was 0.8 mL·min-1 and detection wave-length was 260 nm. The developed method was successfully applied in analysis of three different samples in-cluding O. sinensis, Hirsutella sinensis ( anamorph of O.sinensis) and Cordyceps militaris. Nine compounds were i-dentified in both O.sinensis and H.sinensis, which eight compounds were identified in C.militaris.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To investigate serological patterns of hepatitis B based on electrochemiluminescent immunoassays and the distribution characteristics of these patterns in hospitalized children and adolescents in Zhejiang, China between 2006 and 2010. METHODS: Five serological markers, including hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs), antibody to hepatitis B e antigen (anti-HBe), and antibody to hepatitis B c antigen (anti-HBc), were chosen as a routine panel to monitor hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and vaccination efficacy. A total of 33,187 children (21,187 boys and 12,000 girls) were selected using the following exclusion criteria: a previous diagnosis of hepatitis, age >16 years or an address outside of Zhejiang. RESULTS: The average HBV vaccination coverage rates among 20,766 boys and 11,782 girls were 98.62% and 98.68%, respectively. Seventeen serological patterns of hepatitis B were found, and the dominant pattern was 'anti-HBs (+) alone' (62.03%) followed by 'negative pattern' (23.46%). The rates of the other 15 patterns ranged from 8.14% to 0.003%. Of 236 HBsAg-positive patients, the overall rate of seropositivity was 0.71%. The anti-HBs levels were grouped into 3 ranges (10-100 mIU/mL, 100-1,000 mIU/mL, and >1,000 mIU/mL) for all anti-HBs-positive children (36.08%, 43.43%, and 20.49%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: A low HBsAg carrier rate and a relatively high anti-HBs positive rate are present in hospitalized children and adolescents in Zhejiang. The distribution of serological patterns is associated with age but is mostly independent of gender.

Objective To investigate the acceptability and related factors of an "on-demand"pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV transmission among MSM in Shenyang. Methods MSM recruited by non-probability sampling method and questionnaire survey conducted by investigators to collect information on social and behavioral characteristics, awareness of PrEP,Truvada and the acceptability of two different PrEP-based trials.Multivariate logistic regression was employed for statistical analysis. Results Among the 292 respondents,34.2% had heard of PrEP and 58.2% (170/292) reported were interested in participating a PrEP trial-"on-demand" use or 48.3% (141/292) interested on "daily" use (x2=5.785,P=0.02).Factors independently associated with those "on-demand" would include:having more than 2 male sexual partners during the past 6 month (aOR=1.7,95%CI:1.1-2.7),concerning on the positive effect of PrEP (vs.side effects) (aOR=6.4,95%CI:2.2-18.9),having an HIV-infected sexual partners (aOR=8.1,95% CI:1.0-63.3) and self-reported high risk for HIV (aOR=2.6,95%CI:1.2-6.0).The last two factors were only associated with the "on-demand" group. Conclusions "On-demand" PrEP (as opposed to daily) seemed a more feasible prevention strategy on HIV and particularly in those having high risk behavior of HIV.For those who could not follow the daily medication or having HIV risk perception,"On-demand" basis PrEP trial should be recommended for them to follow.
