Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of auricular point sticking plus moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36) in preventing spleen-stomach disharmony due to intravenous analgesia pump.Method Totally 120 post-operation patients with intravenous analgesia pump were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 60 in each group. Patients in the control group were asked to take a semireclining position, and to turn over the body and do morning exercise under assistance. In addition to the intervention given to the control group, the treatment group received auricular point sticking plus moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36). The occurrence rate of post-operation nausea, vomiting and abdominal bloating was observed.Result The occurrence rate of nausea, vomiting and abdominal bloating was 11.7% in the treatment group, versus 33.3% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Auricular point sticking plus moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36) is effective in preventing spleen-stomach disharmony due to intravenous analgesia pump, and can reduce pain and complications.

Objective To investigate the effect of herbal foot-bath plus acupoint application on sleep quality of stomach cancer patients before surgery. Method Eighty eligible patients who were going to receive stomach cancer surgery were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 40 in each group. The control group was given psychological comfort plus switching off lights on time, while the observation group was additionally given herbal foot-bath plus acupoint application before the surgery. The sleep quality on the night before surgery was observed. Result There were significant differences in comparing sleep latency, night wakening, total sleep duration, total sleep quality, daily body function and total score (P<0.05). Conclusion Herbal foot-bath plus acupoint application can enhance the effective sleep duration and sleep quality of patients before stomach cancer surgery.

Objective To investigate the signaling mechanisms underlying synergistic induction of MUC5AC mucin by nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae(NTHi)and epidermal growth factor (EGF).Methods The expression of MUC5AC was measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and Luciferase assay.Western blot was performed to examine the synergistic induction of phosphorylation of P38,extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)and P21-activated kinase(PAK)4 or the effect of dominant negative mutant of PAK4 on the synerglstic induction of phosphorvlation of P38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(P38MAPK)and ERK in HM3 cells treated with NTHi and EGF.Luciferase asgay was also performed to examine the effect of P38,ERK inhibitors or dominant negative mutants of P38MAPK and ERK on synergistic enhancement of NTHi-induced MUC5AC up-regulation by EGF at transcriptional level.Real-time quantitative PCR was performed to examine the effect of PAK4 siRNA on synergistic induction of NTHi-induced MUC5AC up-regulation by EGF.ResuIts NTHi induced MUC5AC mucin expression at both mRNA and transcriptional levels.Synergistic induction of phosFIhorylation of P38MAPK,ERK and PAK4 were observed in HM3 cells treated with NTHi and EGF.Either SB203580,a specific inhibitor for P38MAPK or PD98059,a specific inhibitor for ERK inhibited synergistic induction of MUC5AC at transcription level.Furthmore, overexpressing dominant negative mutant of P38MAPK and ERK also inhibited synergistic induction of MUC5AC at transcription level. PAK4 siRNA inhibited the synergistic induction of MUC5AC by NTHi and EGF. Overexpressing dominant negative mutant of PAK4 also reduccd synergistic induction of phosphorylation of P38 and ERK. Conclusion Synergistic induction of MUC5AC mucin by NTHi is up-regulated by EGF via PAK4-dependent P38MAPK and ERK pathways.

Objective To analyze the clinical distribution and drug resistance of clinically isolated strains of Acinetobacter Bau-mannii(ABA)in our hospital from January 2007 to December 2012 so as to provide the basis for the rational use of antibacterial drugs in clinic.Methods The API microbiological culture and identification system was adopted to conduct the ABA culture,identi-fication and drug susceptibility analysis on the clinical specimens submitted by various clinical department and the drug resistance of the strains was analyzed by using WHONET5.6 software.Results 791 strains of ABA were isolated in the recent 6 years,and the isolating rate of ABA in the pathogenic bacteria was 7.8%;The ABA detection was dominated by the sputum (80.4%)and the throat swab(10.9%)specimens;the distribution of isolated ABA strains were relatively widespread;the infection rates of the pa-tients were higher in ICU (18.8%),cadre wards(17.6%),respiratory medicine department(13.3%)and neurosurgery department (12.3%).During these 6 years,the drug resistance rate of less than 50% included imipenem(IPM)and cefoperazone sodium/sul-bactam,and the resistance rate in most of commonly used antibacterial drugs showed an increasing trend,especially IPM.Conclusion The drug resistance of ABA is more serious and the resistance rate of clinically isolated strains to most of antibacterial drugs in our hospital during 2007- 2012 showed an increasing trend.Dynamically monitoring the ABA distribution and the drug resistance changes conduces to guide the rational use of antibacterial drugs in clinic,prevent the nosocomial infection and reduce the generation of pan-drug resistant strains.

Objective: To establish the quality standard for Jiujixingjun Power(Mentholum, Borneolum Syntheticum, Radix Scutellariae, Realgar, Cinnabaris, Brainia Insignis, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, etc.). Methods: Radix Scutellariae, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Brainia Insignis, Mentholum and Borneolum Syntheticum in this medicine were identified by TLC and GC. The contents of Mentholum and Borneolum Syntheticum were determined by GC. Results: Radix Scutellariae and Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae and Brainia Insignis could be identified by TLC. Mentholum and Borneolum Syntheticum could be identified by GC. Its content was in the range of 75.69～78.51mg?g -1 and 61.26～ 64.14 mg?g -1 , respectively. The average recovery of Mentholum was 99.35%( RSD =0.98%) and Borneolum Syntheticum was 99.24%( RSD =0.98%). Conclusion: The method established is simple, feasible and reproducible and can be used as the quality standards for Jiujixingjun Powder.

AIM: To study the change of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) expression in intestine tissues of mice induced by LPS and regulatory effect of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) on ICAM-1 expression. METHODS: Protein and mRNA of ICAM-1 were measured using Western blotting and RT-PCR respectively in intestine tissue of BALB/c mice treated by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) or LPS plus SB203580, a specific inhibitor of p38 MAPK. RESULTS: Compared with control group, the expression of ICAM-1 protein and mRNA was increased significantly by LPS stimulation in dose- and time-dependent manner. ICAM-1 expression reached peak value at 12-36 h after LPS stimulation. 20.0 mg/kg of LPS could induce the maximum of ICAM-1 expression. Pretreatment of mice with SB203580 for 30 min could inhibit significantly LPS-induced expression of ICAM-1 protein and mRNA expression in mouse intestine tissues. CONCLUSIONS: These data highlight that LPS could up-regulate ICAM-1 protein and mRNA expression in intestine tissue of mice in dose- and time-dependent manner, and p38 MAPK signal pathway plays an important role in ICAM-1 expression induced by LPS. It suggests that inhibition of p38 MAPK might be a useful principle for the prevention and treatment of intestine damage of endotoxic shock.

Objective To investigate the association between the presence of cerebral microbleeds and chronic kidney disease in patients with ischemic stroke.Methods Patients with ischemic stroke within 1-6 months were consecutively recruited.Cranial MRI was taken within two weeks after recruitment.Cerebral microbleeds were assessed using Microbleed Anatomical Rating Scale on gradient echo MRI.Demographics including sex,age and risk factors were obtained.Chronic kidney disease was defined and classified according to National Kidney Fundation-Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative Guideline.Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was estimated by using the abbreviated Modification of Diet in Renal Disease equation.Results Of the 636 patients included,mean age was (59.8 ± 10.1) years,435 (68.4％) were male.Sixty-six had decreased estimated GFR (eGFR; ＜ 60 ml · min-1 · 1.73 m-2).Two hundred and one (31.6％) patients had cerebral microbleeds,which were most commonly located in deep or infratentorial location (133/201,66.2％).The presence of cerebral microbleeds was much higher in patients with decreased eGFR than the others (48.5％ (32/66) vs 29.6％ (169/570),x2 =9.709,P =0.002).Age,history of hypertension and decreased eGFR were associated with the presence of cerebral microbleeds in univariate analysis.In multivariate analysis,decreased eGFR was independently associated with the presence of cerebral microbleeds in deep or infratentorial location (OR =1.457,95％ CI 1.044-2.034,P =0.027),but not associated with the presence of cerebral microbleeds in pure lobe.Conclusion Impaired kidney function is associated with the presence of cerebral microbleeds in deep or infratentorial regions in patients with ischemic stroke.

Objective To investigate the expression of glucose-regulated protein 78(GRP78)and cysteine aspartic acid protease 12(Caspase-12) and evaluate the endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) in rats with contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN),and observe the protective effects of hydroxytyrosol on CIN rats.Methods Eighty-four Wistar rats,(220±20) g,were randomly divided into control group,CIN group,hydroxytyrosol treated group (group C+H).At 12th,24th,48th,72th day after the rats model were established,BUN and Scr were detected.ELISA were used to detect the expression of methane dicarboxylic aldehyde (MDA),superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px).HE staining were used to evaluate the pathological change of kidney.TUNEL were used to detect the apoptosis of tubular ceils.Real-time PCR were used to detect the expression of GRP78 mRNA and Caspase-12 mRNA in tubular cells.Immunohistochemistry and Western blotting were used to detect the expression of GRP78 and Caspase-12 protein in tubular cells.Results BUN,Scr,the mRNA and protein expression of GRP78,Caspase-12 in hydroxytyrosol treated group were higher than that in control group(P ＜ 0.05),but were significantly lower than that in CIN group (P ＜ 0.05).Pathological changes and the apoptosis of tubular cells in CIN group were more serious than that in hydroxytyrosol treated group (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Endoplasmic reticulum stress may be associated with contrast-induced nephropathy.Hydroxytyrosol can protect kidney from contrast medium via reducing the endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Objective To investigate the clinical features of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) associated with thyroid function abnormalities.Methods Serum thyroid function,anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb) and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) were detected in 186 RA patients.Clinical data were then analyzed.Comparison of continuous data between groups was made by t test,while comparison of categorical data was made by x2 test.The non-normal distribution of the data was analyzed by Mann-Whitney U rank sum test.Results Fifty-six RA cases (30％) had abnormal thyroid function,including 25 low T3 syndrome cases,16 subclinical hypothyroidism cases,10 hypothyroidism cases and 5 Graves' disease cases.Among them 23 cases were diagnosed as Hashimoto's thyroiditis.The positive rate in the hypothyroidism group with chills (45 cases,80.3％,x2=99.94),lazy words (14 cases,25.0％;x2=7.896),lethargy (24 cases,42.9％;x2=7.433) and abdominal distension (21 cases,37.5％;x2=7.15) was higher than that in the group with normal thyroid function (all P＜0.05).Level of serum high density lipoprotein was decreased in hypothyroid group [(1.0±0.5) mmol/L vs (1.4±0.6) mmol/L,t=4.087,P＜0.05].Patients with abnormal thyroid function had higher positive rate of ANA [(10 cases,7.7％) vs (25 cases,44.5％),x2=34.98],anti-SSA [(3 cases,2.3％) vs (23 cases,41.1％),x2=48.91],anti-SSB [(2 cases,1.5％) vs (12 cases,21.4％),x2=22.25],TGAb [(20 cases,15.4％) vs (43 cases,76.7％),x2=65.88] and TPOAb [(13 cases,10.0％) vs (27 cases,48.2％),x2=35.90] than those with normal thyroid function (all P＜O.05).Conclusion Rheumatoid arthritis is often accompanied by thyroid disease.The positive rate of auto-antibodies in RA with abnormal thyroid function is higher than those with normal thyroid function and has no relationship with the disease activity.
