A numerical model is developed in this paper to calculate the bending moments of flexural members through integration in 3D solid finite element analyses according to the nonlinear constitutive model of concrete and the elastoplastic constitutive model of steel, utilizing the stress condition of the cross-section, considering the destruction characteristic of reinforced concrete members, and based on the plane cross-section assumption. The results of this model give good agreement with those of the classical method. Consequently, we can also deduce the corresponding numerical expression for eccentrically loaded members according to the analysis method.

Objective To investigate the effects of Gefarnate on expression of myeloperoxidase (MPO),cyelooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and COX-2 in trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid (TNBS) induced experimental colitis in rats and its therapeutic effects on ulcerative colitis. Methods Forty female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 4 groups with 10 each. The rats in group A, B and C were infused with TNBS/alcohol by enema. After the production of colitis, the rats in group A or B were treated daily with 1 ml of normal saline or with 1 ml of 5-ASA (100 mg/kg) by enema, and those in group C were treated daily with 1 ml of Gefarnate by gavage. Group D was served as normal control. After the production of colitis, animals were sacrificed at day 7 and 14 with 5 in each group. The macroscopic changes of the colon were evaluated according to disease activity index (DAD scoring and histological change was assessed by HE staining. MPO activity of the mucosa was detected by biochemical methods. Expressions of COX-1 and COX-2 in tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results Compared with group A, macroscopic and histological scores and MPO activity were significantly decreased in group B and C (P<0.05). The expressions of COX-1 at day 7 and 14 were 1.86±0.51 and 1.96±0.41 in group B, 1.73±0.68 and 1.79±0.6 in group C, 1.91±0.34 and 1.99±0.45 in group D, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in group A (0.87±0.18 and 0.93±0.15, P<0.05). Whereas the expressions of COX-2 at day 7 and 14 were 1.53±0.19 and 0.73±0.15 in group B, 1.73±0.94 and 0.86±0.29 in group C, 0.24±0.18 and 0.18±0. 16 in group D, respectivley, which were significantly lower that those in group A (3.50±0.2;3 and 3.06±0.27). There was a significant difference between group D and group B or C (P<0.05). Conclusions Gefarnate provides a therapeutic effect during TNBS-induced colitis in rats, which is similar to that of 5-ASA. The mechanisms are involved in decreasing the concentration of colonic MPO and regulating the expression of COX-1/COX-2.

Aim To investigate the relationship between the brain targeting effect and P-glycoprotein(P-gp)expression level of Danshensu borneol ester(DBE)and the combination use of sodium Danshensu and borneol(SDSS-B).Methods The liquid chromatography mass spectrometry(LC-MS)method was applied to investigate the accumulation of Danshensu(DSS)in rat brain tissues after intravenous injection of DBE,SDSS-B and SDSS.Also their effect on regulating the expression level of P-gp in rat hippocampus was investigated using Western blot. Results The brain targeting effect of DBE,SDSS-B was qualitatively analyzed through the brain distribution of DSS,and the result was DBE(SDSS-B)>SDSS(P<0.01).Meanwhile,the brain distribution of DBE group was slightly lower than SDSS-B group at 15 min, while at 30 min DBE was higher than that of SDSS-B.DBE demonstrated a better slow release property compared to SDSS-B.Western blot analysis indicated that DBE,SDSS-B were more effective in inhibiting the expression of P-gp than SDSS in rat hippocampus(P<0.01 vs control or SDSS group),and the lowest P-gp expression was obtained with(47.58±2.28)%and(46.54±1.41)%at 45 min after administration of DBE or SDSS-B.Once the administration time was extended to 60 min,the inhibitory effect on P-gp expression of DBE was stronger than SDSS-B[(85.04±1.42)%vs(95.29±0.98)%].However,no significant inhibition of P-gp expression in rat hippocampus was found throughout the treatment of SDSS(P>0.05 at 5,15,45,60 min,vs control group). Conclusion An attenuated expression level of P-gp can be realized by DBE and SDSS-B,which is advantageous to their brain targeting.

31 patients with cysticercosis of cerebral ventricles verified by operation or pathological investigation were reported. All patients were between 7 and 64 years of age and 14 were females. All had a single cyst. Since 29 patients (94%) were without a history of intestinal taeniasis, it was proposed that most patients of cysticercosis of cerebral ventricles were caused by hetero-infection and the entrance of Cysticercus into brain ventricle was through choroid plexus along the cerebro-spinal fluid. This is probably the reason why it occurs mostly in the 4th ventricle. The clinical manifestation of cysticercosis of cerebral ventricles were paroxysmal headache and vomiting caused by increased intracranial pressure. Ventricu-lography and CT scanning have considerable diagnostic value. Removal of Cysticercus by surgical operation is successful (Figs. 1 - 8).

Important/potential value of macrolides has been proved in the management of chronic respiratory diseases by increasing basic and clinical trials.Through three face-to-face discussions,10 experts examined important data and drafted this consensus related to macrolides:(1) mechanism of nonantiinfective effects;(2) clinical use in chronic respiratory diseases;(3) cautions of long-term use.The mechanism out of non-antiinfective effects includes anti-inflammatory effect, modifying airway secretion,immune-regulation related to antibacterial effect, corticoid saving effect and anti-viral effect. The efficacy of long-term use of low-dose macrolides is definitely confirmed in diffuse panbronchiolitis, chronic rhinosinusitis. It is considerably used in bronchiectasia, cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Further studies should be conducted in cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and respiratory viral infection. It should be paid attention to its possible adverse effects (including drug interactions, cardiac toxicity, ototoxicity and disturbance of intestinal flora) and drug resistance in long-term use.A Chinese consensus for non-antiinfective effects and clinical use of macrolides is developed for the first time, which aims to expand their rational use and the further research.
10.Early acute change process after retinal laser injury
Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2024;31(4):627-631
Laser-induced retinal damage is a gradual and progressive process, yet there remains a dire need for safe and effective therapeutic drugs and preventive measures to mitigate and treat this condition. Currently, the exploration of treatment options for laser-induced retinal damage is still in its experimental phase. This review delves into the histopathological, functional, and molecular expression levels of the retina after acute laser injury. It aims to uncover the acute changes that occur following laser injury, identify the optimal window period for intervention, and hypothesize the best time for treatment to rescue residual cells and preserve remaining vision.
