Chinese Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2004;0(01):-
Objective To simulate and investigate th e electromagnetic field distribution of the insert applicator used in microwave hy perthermia for treating bone tumors. Methods Bone t umor model with layered cylindrical shape was made. The applicator was made from a coaxial cable that peeled off the out copper at the end, which were inserted into the cylindrical bone with different depths. The three dimensions finite ele ment method (FEM) was used to calculate the various parameters of the simulated electromagnetic field. Results The electromagnetic energy could be well transmitted into the tissues when the section of the out co pper cutting was embedded in the tissues. The electromagnetic energy to the tiss ue was enhanced when the tip of the applicator got close to but not penetrated t he tissue. Conclusion The intensity of irradiation t o the target tissue was determined by the dimension and depth of insertion of th e applicator. This is very important for the selection of the type and insertion depth of the applicator when using microwave hyperthermia for treating bone tum or in clinical practice.

Insulinoma is the most common functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor.Surgical removal or enucleation is the most commonly used treatment.Insulinomas are usually benign, solitary and small. So they are theoretically the good indication for radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatment. In 2009,Limmer et al ever reported the first case of insulinoma who were successfully treated by RFA.To date,5 similar articles in English have been published, reporting 7 cases in total. In the recent year,we successfully treated 2 cases with insulinoma (one in pancreatic cauda and the other in pancreatic body). All the 2 cases got complete remission with quick alleviation of clinical symptoms and without conplications. The data of these 9 cases showed that RFA is a safe and effective treatment for insulinoma, and for selected patients,it can be recommended as a treatment of first choice.

This study was undertaken to investigate mother-to-infant transmission of human parvovirus B19 and the significance of prevalence of B19 virus in abnormal fetuses in Guandong. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR)was established to detect parvovirus B19 DNA in 700 sera from 350 maternal-infant pair groups. The prevalence of B19 virus DNA was 1.14% (4/350)and 0.28%(1/350)in the sera of pregnant women and cord blood of their neonates respectively. Parvovirus B19 DNA sequences were also detected in abnormal fetuses and new-born by PCR. The positive results were obtained in 5 samples of fetal tissues from 17 abnormal fetuses and in 3 those of neonatal tissues from 7 cases of neonatal death. The amplified products of PCR were identified to be the target DNA with Hae Ⅲ digestion. By in situ hybridization ,parvovirus DNA could be detected mainly in the nuclei of immature hematopoetic cells within fetal brain or spleen whose PCR tests were positive. The study results suggest that human parvovirus B19 infection does exist in maternal-infant transmission in Guangdong and might lead to harm on fetuses, but the prevalence rate of B19 virus may be very low. The evaluation of B19 virus infection might depend on reliable assay to determine present infection or past infection.

To modify uricase with PEG reagent in order to decrease uricase immunogenieity and increase its stability. Methods:The branched PEG of 40 kD was chosen to modify native uricase. The properties of the mod-ified uricase including the stabilities to protease,pH and temperature,in vivo half-life time,as well as the immu-nogenicity were evaluated. The pharmacokinetic profiles of the midofied uricase were studied in mice. Results:It is demonstrated that the conjugation of PEG to lysine residues of Candida utilis uricase resulted in higher tryp-sin resistance.reduced immune response.and prolonged in vivo half-life.PEG modified uricase retained 80% of the enzymatic activity of native uricase. In addition,it was found that half-life in serum of the intravenously injec-ted PEGylated uriease of up to 696 min was longer that that of native uficase of 45 min.Higher plasma drug con-centrations were also reached with dosing of the PEGylated uricase to mice.Furthermore, the binding affinity Was shown to be reduced for the PEG-uricase using ELISA assay.and it was one-eishth that of native uricase.Final-ly,it Was indicated that the PEG uficase induced a delayed immunoresponse in mice following repeated adminis-trations.Conclusion:These findings demonstrate that this chemically modified form of uricase may serve as a potentially effective drug to treat gout patients.
