Objective To study the imaging characteristics of vesical leukoplakia under the cys-toscope imaging system. Methods The characteristics of vesical leukoplakia were observed under the cystoscope imaging system in 556 cases. After anti-infection treatment to these patients, the chan-ges of the characteristic under the cystoseope imaging system were re-observed and compared before and after treatment. SPSS 11.0 software package x2 teat for statistical analysis was used. Results Under the cystoscope imaging system, there were four different imaging manifestations in the 556 pa-tients. These were, from mild to severe, congestive type in 42 cases, spots type in 56 cases, thin macular type in 399 cases and thick macular type in 59 cases. One type could transform to another af-ter anti-infection treatment. When reexamination by the cystoscope, 131 cases got improved, 304 cases had no changes and 121 cases were aggravated. Statistical analysis showed the transformation among the 4 types had significant difference (x2 = 130.92, v=6, P<0.001). From congestive type to spots type, thin macular type and thick macular type, after anti-infection treatment, the ratio of improved cases decreased gradually, however the ratio of aggravated cases and cases without changes increased gradually. Conclusion Vesical leukoplakia could be classified into 4 types initially: congestive type, spots type, thin macular type, thick macular type. The different clinical treatments should be provid-ed.

Chinese Medical Journal 2009;122(8):945-949
BACKGROUNDMethylmalonic acidemia (MMA) is a multifactorial autosomal recessive inborn error of organic acid metabolism, often presenting with neurological symptoms. As neurological disorders are often related to white matter injury, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is an excellent tool for assessment of white matter injury and possibly for diagnosing this disorder.
METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed DTI images of 12 patients with MMA (7 males, 5 females, age range: 7 - 12 months, mean age: 9.25 +/- 1.70 months) with negative MRI findings. And another 12 age-matched and gender-matched infants were enrolled as control subjects. Fractional anisotropy (FA) of different white matter tracts of the brain was measured in both groups.
RESULTSFor patients with negative MRI findings, compared with healthy infants, a statistically significant reduction in DTI FA value of the frontal white matter, temporal white matter, and occipital white matter was observed (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSIn addition to conventional T1W and T2W MR Image, Brain DTI presents a useful, sensitive and complementary tool for the assessment of brain damage in patients with MMA.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of fluvastatin on blood levels of c-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in patients with unstable angina undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
METHODSSixty patients who underwent PCI from July 2002 to April 2004 in our hospital were randomized into two groups: control group; fluvastatin group (40 mg/d). Serum levels of CRP, TNFalpha and cTnI were measured before and after two weeks treatment (in the early morning of the procedure) and at 24 hours after the procedure.
RESULTSThe serum levels of CRP, TNFalpha and cTnI in fluvastatin group were distinctly lower than those in control group before (P < 0.01) and after the procedure (P < 0.01), respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe result suggested that PCI could lead to a detectable increase in serum levels of CRP, TNFalpha and cTnI in patients with coronary heart disease; Fluvastatin could significantly decrease the serum levels of CRP, TNFalpha and cTnI in patients with coronary heart disease; Fluvastatin could also decrease the serum levels of CRP, TNFalpha and cTnI in patients with PCI.

BACKGROUNDNucleophosmin plays a critical role in embryonic development. This study aimed to examine the expression pattern of nucleophosmin in glandular epithelium of human endometrium during the menstrual cycle.
METHODSEndometrial tissues used for this study were obtained from 46 non-pregnant patients who underwent hysterectomy which had been performed to treat benign diseases. Nucleophosmin expression was assessed by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSAt the early-, mid- and late-proliferative phase, nucleophosmin mRNA was highly expressed in glandular epithelium of human endometrium. At the secretory phase, the expression of nucleophosmin mRNA was reduced in glandular epithelium in early-secretory phase, and the expression in mid- and late-secretory phases was not detected. Similarly, nucleophosmin protein was strongly expressed in endometrial glands throughout the proliferative phase, but was gradually reduced during secretory phase.
CONCLUSIONNucleophosmin mRNA and protein are expressed in glandular epithelium of human endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle.

The placement of the flexible ureteroscopic sheath during lithotripsy may injure the ureter. We have developed a double-tube flexible ureteral access sheath. Thirteen patients with renal calculi were treated with double-tube and flexible sheath in one stage. CT examination of 13 cases showed that the ureter was normal. The double-tube flexible ureteral access sheath makes the operation of sheathing easy, safe and effective.

Objective:
Schizophrenia is a complex and devastating psychiatric disorder with a strong genetic background. However, much uncertainty still exists about the role of genetic susceptibility in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. TEA domain transcription factor 1 (TEAD1) is a transcription factor associated with neurodevelopment and has modulating effects on various nervous system diseases. In the current study, we performed a case–control association study in a Northeast Chinese Han population to explore the characteristics of pathogenic TEAD1 polymorphisms and potential association with schizophrenia.
Methods:
We recruited a total of 721 schizophrenia patients and 1,195 healthy controls in this study. The 9 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the gene region of TEAD1 were selected and genotyped.
Results:
The genetic association analyses showed that five SNPs (rs12289262, rs6485989, rs4415740, rs7113256, and rs1866709) were significantly different between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls in allele or/and genotype frequencies. After Bonferroni correction, the association of three SNPs (rs4415740, rs7113256, and rs1866709) with schizophrenia were still evident. Haplotype analysis revealed that two strong linkage disequilibrium blocks (rs6485989-rs4415740-rs7113256 and rs16911710-rs12364619-rs1866709) were globally associated with schizophrenia. Four haplotypes (C-C-C and T-T-T, rs6485989-rs4415740-rs7113256; G-T-A and G-T-G, rs16911710-rs12364619-rs1866709) were significantly different between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls.
Conclusion
The current findings indicated that the human TEAD1 gene has a genetic association with schizophrenia in the Chinese Han population and may act as a susceptibility gene for schizophrenia.

OBJECTIVETo observe the urokinase receptor (uPAR) expression in atherosclerotic plaques of human femoral arteries.
METHODSHuman femoral artery samples were collected from patients underwent femoral endarterectomy. Normal internal mammary artery samples were taken from bypass surgery served as control. uPAR protein distribution at shoulders, lipid pool and rupture sites of a plaque and the association with macrophages and smooth muscle cells (SMCs) were detected by immunohistochemistry methods.
RESULTSThere was no uPAR expression in intima or tunica media of normal internal mammary arteries. In atherosclerotic lesions of femoral artery, the mean optical density (A) of uPAR was 92 +/- 37 in intima and 46 +/- 28 in tunica media (P < 0.05). The intimal uPAR was coexisted with macrophages and SMCs. uPAR expression was observed at plaque shoulders and lipid pool, while the maximal expression was found at rupture sites.
CONCLUSIONThe increased expression of uPAR in atherosclerotic lesion and uPAR distribution at shoulders, lipid pool, as well as rupture sites of plaques suggest a role of uPAR in plaque rupture process.

[Objective]To analyze the feasibility and clinical efficacy of one-stage debridement, bone grafting and in-ternal fixation for the treatment of single-segmental lumbar spinal tuberculosis with extreme lateral approach.[Methods]Thirteen patients of single-segmental lumbar spinal tuberculosis that received the surgeries from April 2013 to August 2016 were included. The operation duration and the amount of intraoperative blood loss were recorded. The VAS and ODI of the back pain, lumbar kyphosis angle, segment height restoration, and vertebral fusion rate were used to analyze the clinical efficacy.[Results]Thirteen patients were successfully followed up for 13-32 months(mean,20.3 months);the operation duration was 160-280 min(average,214±96)min;the amount of intraoperative blood loss was 150-350 mL, average(average,263±63)mL. At the final follow-up,ESR and CRP were normal and lower back pain(VAS)and Oswestry disability index(ODI)were significantly reduced(7.2±1.6 vs 2.5±1.2 and 63.3±5.4 vs 31.9±3.7,respectively)compared to preoperative values;there were no significant difference in the lumbar kyphosis angle, segment height resto-ration between preoperation(segmental lordosis,7.1°±4.7°;segmental height,64.8 mm±9.3 mm)and the values at final follow-ups(segmental lordosis,5.2°±3.5°;segmental height,69.4 mm±10.5 mm;P>0.05). All cases acquired good lumbar interbody fusion with no internal fixation failure or recurrence of tuberculosis.[Conclusions]Under systemic and routine antituberculosis chemotherapy,one-stage extreme lateral approach debridement, bone graft and internal fixation is effective and feasible for single-segmental lumbar spinal tuberculosis.
