Objective To study the effect of interleukin (IL)-10 knockout (IL-10-/-) on renal repair after renal ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice.Methods Eighteen IL-10-/-mice (KO) aged 8-10 weeks and 18 C57BL/6 wild type mice (WT) aged 8-10 weeks were divided into control group (Sham) and renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) group.The renal tissue morphology change was observed by Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining and Masson staining.The expressions of IL-18, Ki67 and TGF-β1 were detected by immunohistochemistry.The expression of TGF-beta1 and IL-18 were detected by Western blotting.Results Compared with that in WT-IRI group, in KO-IRI group renal pathological damage was more severe, renal interstitial fibrosis was visible, Ki67 expression of renal tubular epithelial cells decreased distinctly (P＜0.01), the expression of TGF-betal increased significantly (P＜0.01).Conclusion Repair slows down significantly after kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury and fibrosis occurs gradually in IL-10-/-mice, eventually progressing to chronic kidney disease.

The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the colour stabilities of three types of orthodontic clear aligners exposed to staining agents in vitro. Sixty clear orthodontic aligners produced by three manufacturers (Invisalign, Angelalign, and Smartee) were immersed in three staining solutions (coffee, black tea, and red wine) and one control solution (distilled water). After 12-h and 7-day immersions, the aligners were washed in an ultrasonic cleaner and measured with a colourimeter. The colour changes (ΔE*) were calculated on the basis of the Commission Internationale de I’Eclairage L*a*b*colour system (CIE L*a*b*), and the results were then converted into National Bureau of Standards (NBS) units. Fourier transformation infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were conducted to observe the molecular and morphologic alterations to the aligner surfaces, respectively. The three types of aligners exhibited slight colour changes after 12 h of staining, with the exception of the Invisalign aligners stained with coffee. The Invisalign aligners exhibited significantly higherΔE*values (ranging from 0.30 to 27.81) than those of the Angelalign and Smartee aligners (ΔE*values ranging from 0.33 to 1.89 and 0.32 to 1.61, respectively, Po0.05). FT-IR analysis confirmed that the polymer-based structure of aligners did not exhibit significant chemical differences before and after the immersions. The SEM results revealed different surface alterations to the three types of aligner materials after the 7-day staining. The three types of aesthetic orthodontic appliances exhibited colour stability after the 12-h immersion, with the exception of the Invisalign aligners stained by coffee. The Invisalign aligners were more prone than the Angelalign and Smartee aligners to pigmentation. Aligner materials may be improved by considering aesthetic colour stability properties.

This study aimed to explore the impact of depression caused by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) on in vivo activity of six kinds of CYP450 isoforms in rats. According to 'Katz' method, the model of CUMS was established. Tolbutamide, chlorzoxazone, theophylline, midazolam, omeprazole and dextromethorphan were chosen as probe substrates of CYP2C6, CYP2E1, CYP1A2, CYP3A2, CYP2D1 and CYP2D2 of rats. Plasma concentration of six kinds of CYP450 in control group and model group were determined by LC-MS/MS and computed pharmacokinetic parameters. Consequently, metabolism of theophylline and chlorzoxazone accelerated significantly (P < 0.01), but tolbutamide, dextromethorphan, omeprazole and midazolam had no significant difference. The present study proved that depression caused by CUMS had strong induction to CYP1A2 and medium induction to CYP2E1.

Background This meta-analysis evaluated the effect of noninvasive,positive pressure ventilation on severe,stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods PUBMED,CNKI,Wanfang,EMBASE and the Cochrane trials databases were searched.Randomized controlled trials of patients with severe,stable COPD and receiving noninvasive positive pressure ventilation,compared with sham ventilation or no ventilation,were reviewed.The mortality,physiological and health related parameters were pooled to yield odds ratio (OR),weighted mean differences or standardized mean differences (SMD),with 95％ confidence interval (C/).Results Eight parallel and three crossover randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria.Pooled analysis for parallel,randomized controlled trials showed noninvasive positive pressure ventilation:(1) Did not affect the 12-or 24-month mortality (OR 0.82,95％ C/:0.48 to 1.41); (2) Improved the arterial carbon dioxide tension (SMD-0.88,95％C/:-1.43 to-0.34); (3) Did not improve forced expiratory volume in one second (SMD 0.20,95％ C/:-0.06 to 0.46),maximal inspiratory pressure (SMD 0.01,95％ C/:-0.28 to 0.29) or 6-minute walk distance (SMD 0.17,95％ C/:-0.16 to 0.50); (4) Subgroup analysis showed noninvasive positive pressure ventilation improved the arterial carbon dioxide tension in hypercapnic patients.Pooled analysis for crossover randomized controlled trials did not show improvement in arterial blood gas or forced expiratory volume in one second with noninvasive positive pressure ventilation.Conclusions Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation improves the arterial carbon dioxide tension but does not improve the mortality,pulmonary function,or exercise tolerance and should be cautiously used in severe stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Objective To investigate the coagulation disorder status of patients with pancreatic cancer and to explore its role in tumor formation,progression and metastasis.Method The present study involved 114 patients with pancreatic cancer diagnosed by surgery or biopsy,and 40 healthy volunteers.For each individual,nine plasma coagulation parameters were tested using the STAGO Compact automated.Results The levels of plasma antithrombin Ⅲ (AT-Ⅲ) and protein C of the pancreatic cancer group were significantly reduced compared with the control group,while the levels of plasma PT,APTT,INR,FIB,F-Ⅷ,D-dimer (D-D) were significantly elevated.The level of plasma D-D increased with increase in clinical stage,while the level of AT-Ⅲ decreased.The level of plasma D-D became higher with worsening in histological grade.Conclusions Patients with pancreatic cancer were in a state of hypercoagulation,with reduced anticoagulation function and secondary hyperfibrinolysis.The level of Plasma D-D was significantly associated with the clinical stage,histological grade and distant metastasis.These together with AT-Ⅲ could be used as indicators to monitor patients with pancreatic cancer.

Objective To study the clinicopathological characteristics and the prognostic factors in metastatic pancreatic tumor.Methods The clinical data of 32 patients with metastatic pancreatic tumors were retrospectively analyzed.The survival of the patients were evaluated with the KaplanMeier method.Univariate analysis was done by log-rank test.Results The primary foei of these32 patients included:9 lung cancer,6 renal cell carcinoma,5 gastric cancer,12 others.The median survival was 15.5 months in the radical surgery group (n 8),18 months in the cryosurgery group(n=3),8 months in the group with palliative bypass operation (n=9),6 months in the group with local radiotherapy (n=3),and 5 months in the group without treatment (n=9).Univariable analysis revealed the type of primary tumor,treatment of the primary tumor,interval between diagnosis of primary tumor and pancreatic metastases,localized pancreatic metastasis,and treatment of the metastatic pancreatic tumor were associated with prognosis.Conclusions Metastatic pancreatic tumors are rare.Long term survival can be achieved with pancreatic resection in a highly selected subset of patients according to the type of primary tumor.Therapeutic cryosurgery as a new minimally invasive,targeted and immunologic method needs to be further evaluated.

Objective To study the clinicopathological characteristics,diagnosis and treatment of patients with mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs) of the pancreas.Methods The clinical data of 42 patients with mucinous cystic neoplasms of pancreas were retrospectively analyzed.Chi-square test and independent sample t-test were used for statistical analysis.Results The mean age of the patients was 53.1 yeas (ranged from 29 to 78 y).There were 32 female (76.2％).The patients were divided into two groups according to symptoms (the symptomatic group and the asymptomatic group).There were significant differences in tumor size,tumor location,operation type,operation time and adhesions with the surrounding tissues between the 2 groups of patients.The patients were then divided into three groups according to pathological type.There were significant differences in age,tumor marker,tumor location,operation type,operation time,adhesions with the surrounding tissues,operative blood loss,and postoperative hospital stay among the 3 groups of patients.There was no tumour recurrence in the patients with cystadenoma.Patients with cystadenocarcinoma developed tumor recurrence at a mean of 16.4 months (range,0-50) and died of tumor recurrence even after radical surgery at a mean of 22.9 months (range,3-58).Conclusion MCNs were seen most commonly in middleaged women.The presence of symptoms was a sign of malignancy.Resection of the tumor in the early stage is the key in dealing with MCNs.

Objective To analyse the diagnosis and treatment options of serous cystadenoma of the pancreas.Method The clinical data of 57 patients operated in the Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital from August 1996 to December 2011 with pathologically confirmed serous cystadenoma of pancreas after the operation were retrospectively studied.Results There were 13 males (22.8％) and 44 females (77.2％).The median age was 56.8 years.The patients were asymptomatic in 31.6％.CT was accurate in the diagnosis in 70.6％.All patients received surgical resection,inluding pancreaticoduodenectomy (n =17,29.8％),distal pancreatectomy (n =38,66.7％),palliative resection (n=1),and tumor enucleation (n=1).Postoperative complications developed in 6 patients.Histopathologically,there were 50 cases of serous microcystic adenoma (87.7％) and 7 cases of serous oligocystic adenoma (12.3 ％).One of these patients had developed into serous cystadenocarcinoma.At a follow-up of 12 months to 15 years,one patient with serous cystadenocarcinoma died 13 months after the operation.The remaining patients were all alive.Statistical analysis was performed based on the postoperative histopathological type and tumor size.The mean postoperative hospital stay of the group of patients with serous microcystic adenoma were significantly longer than the patients with serous oligocystic adenoma [(17.39±7.61) d vs (19.43±0.98) d,P=0.002].The incidence of patients with clinical symptoms was higher in the group of patients with tumor size ≥4 cm when compared with the patients with tumour size ＜4 cm.There was no significant difference on the other parameters.Conclusions Pancreatic serous cystadenoma is a rare pancreatic tumor,and it often happens in elderly women.Indications for surgical resection included symptomatic tumours,tumor diameter more than 4 cm,malignant biological behavior,malignancy could not be ruled out,and potentially malignant tumors.For asymptomatic patients and tumor size less than 4 cm,surgical resection should also be considered if the tumour progresses on follow-up.

Objective To observe the effect and safety of butyl cyanoacrylate used to close type Ⅰ and Ⅱ skin incisions in non-emergency operations of general surgery.Methods We have enrolled 31 cases with written consent.Upon completion of the surgery butyl cyanoacrylate was used to close skin incisions instead of surgical sutures after suturing subcutaneous tissue with 4-0 absorbable thread.Results The length of incisions was 12 - 180 mm (32 ± 32) mm.On the first post-op day,2 cases had redness and 1 had some effusion within the incision subsiding on the second day,there were no fever.Moderate pain was recorded in 3 cases on the first day after operation.The number of cases reporting slight pain on the first day,third day and fifth day were respectively 28,18 and 5.The others had no any pain.The healing time was (6.3 ± 1.1 ) d,there was no delayed healing,no other complications.Conclusions The tissue adhesive method,using butyl cyanoacrylate is of value in closing type Ⅰ and Ⅱskin incisions in general surgery.It has the advantage of reducing scar and inflammation.
