Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION)is a common optic neuropathy seriously affecting the visual function in the middle-aged and elderly population.However,its pathogenesis is not completely clear,and therefore its treating efficacy is dissatisfactory.The current study on NAION is focused on the establishment of suitable animal model and the pathogenesis.In recent years,the relatively ideal animal models(including rodent and primate) have been established by photodynamic methods,which make people have more in-depth understanding on the pathophysiologic mechanism of NAION and lay the basis for the research of therapies.The selection of experimental animals,various induction methods and existing problems in the creation of NAION animal model were reviewed and analyzed in this artical.

Objective To comparative the expression of suppressors of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) in placental tissues between premature delivery and term delivery,and to evaluate the significance of SOCS3 in premature-delivered placental tissues.Meth ods Retrospective analysis was made on 30 patients who had spontaneous premature delivery and 30 pregnant women with normal delivery from February 2013 to October 2013 in our hospital.Reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to detect the mRNA expressions of SOCS3,interferon-α(IFN-α),and interleukin-10 (IL-10).Western-blot was used to detect protein expression of SOCS3,and to analyze the balance of Th1/Th2.Results PCR detection showed that SOCS3-mRNA in the control group was significantly lower than that in the experimental group (P ＜ 0.01).Western-blot test showed that SOCS3 protein expression in the control group was significantly lower than that in the experimental group (P ＜ 0.01).The expression of SOCS3 gene was consistent with its protein expression.PCR detected the significant increase of IFN-α with the secretion of Th1 cytokine,significant decrease of IL-10 with secretion of Th2 cytokine (P ＜ 0.05),and the balance deviation of Th1/Th2 toward Th1.Conclusions SOCS3 is associated with premature delivery,which mechanism might be involved in regulation of the immune balance through janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathways.

AIM: To observe the clinical effect of the tonifying kidney pills with mingmuwuzi treating evaporative dry eyes.METHODS: This study adopted the positive drug control,prospective study,random number remainder grouping method to 65 cases of outpatient patients diagnosed with evaporative dry eyes which were divided into the treatment group 32 cases (64 eyes) and the control group 33 cases (66 eyes).The treatment group took the decoction of kidney pills with mingmuwuzi,combined with sodium hyaluronate eye drops.The control group simply use sodium hyaluronate eye drops,both group were set to 4wk for a course of treatment.To observe the symptoms and signs of two groups before and after the treatment,the change of the evaluation index and curative effect were evaluated.RESULTS: The effectiveness of the treatment group was 87.5%,the control group was 78.8%,the difference was statistically significant (z=-3.149,P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The treatment of the kidney pills with mingmuwuzi combined with sodium hyaluronate eye drops to evaporative dry eyes is more effective than the simple use of sodium hyaluronate eye drops.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of and risk factors for neurosyphilis in syphilitic patients with persistently positive nontreponemal serological tests after regular therapy.Methods Clinical data were collected from 248 syphilitic patients with persistently positive nontreponemal serological tests after regular therapy,and analyzed retrospectively.Univariate analysis,multivariate logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed to assess factors associated with neurosyphilis.Results Of the 248 patients,25 (10.1％) were diagnosed with neurosyphilis.As univariate analysis showed,the occurrence of neurosyphilis was associated with the degree of decline in serum toluidine red unheated serum test (TRUST) titers (x2 =20.663,P ＜ 0.05) and persistent positive serum TRUST titers (Z =-7.021,P ＜ 0.05),but not with gender,age,stage of syphilis,treatment protocols,initial serum TRUST titers,or the presence or obsence of neurological symptoms (P ＞ 0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that persistent positive serum TRUST titers were a risk factor for neurosyphilis (OR =4.685,95％ CI =2.552-8.601,P ＜ 0.05).ROC curve analysis showed that the best cut-off point of persistent positive serum TRUST titer was 1 ∶ 8 for predicting neurosyphilis,with the area under the curve (AUC) being 0.907.Conclusion Serum TRUST titers are somewhat valuable for predicting neurosyphilis in syphilitic patients after regular therapy.

Objective To evaluate the relationship between spectinomycin resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae and mutations in the rpsE gene.Methods Genomic DNA was extracted from 4 clinical isolates of Neisseria gonorrhoeae with different levels of spectinomycin resistance.Then,PCR was performed to amplify the entire rpsE gene and the spectinomycin resistance-determining region (SRDR) in the 16S rRNA gene followed by direct sequencing.Two spectinomycin-sensitive Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains were transformed with the genomic DNA containing the mutant rpsE gene.Subsequently,the susceptibility of the transformants to spectinomycin was determined,and PCR was performed to amplify the rpsE and 16S rRNA genes in the transformants followed by sequencing.Results All the 4 spectinomycin-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains harbored an A70C transversion in the rpsE gene,but no abnormality in the SRDR of the 16S rRNA gene.No mutations were detected in the spectinomycin-sensitive Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains.The A70C transversion in the rpsE gene was also detected in the two Neisseria gonorrhoeae transformants with spectinomycin resistance.Conclusion The A70C point mutation within the rpsE gene is associated with spectinomycin resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
