This paper presents and discusses the liquid density sensing potential of a delay line Lamb-wave sensor configuration, where Lamb wave is excited only by interdigital transducer (IDT), without membrane when fabricated. An optimized cut orientation and the normalized thickness of substrate by using genetic algorithm is presented to improve the sensitivity of the sensor and to get low noise. Experimental measurements performed on Lamb-wave device fabricated from Y-Z LiNbO3 in a delay line configuration are found to be in agreement with theoretical calculations.

AIM: The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of insulin and different kinds of free fatty acid (FFA) on glucose transport in cultured 3T3-L1 preadipocytes or adipocytes. METHODS: Following the exposure of preadipocytes to insulin at different concentrations and treated times, glucose transport was assessed as [3H]2-deoxy glucose uptake. Furthermore, 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and adipocytes with either the monounsaturated FFA oleate (C18:1) or the saturated FFA palmitate (C16:0)were used and glucose transport was examined as above. RESULTS: Insulin increased specific membrane glucose transport in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes at the time of 15 min to 1 h stimulation. However, after 6 h exposure to insulin, downregulation of glucose transport was observed. Dose response studies demonstrated that 2-DG transport increased by 336% at 50 nmol/L of insulin (P

AIM: To investigate whether there was nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subunit α 7 (nAChR α 7 ), choline acetyltransferase(ChAT), acetylcholinesterase(AChE) expression and its regulation in mature dendritic cells (DCs). METHODS: Bone marrow(BM) -derived DCs from healthy BALB/c mice were incubated with rmGM -CSF and rmIL-4, and stimulated to mature with LPS. Meanwhile, light microscope and flow cytometry were used to identify DCs, as well as immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry and RT - PCR methods were used to dectect expression of nAChR α 7, ChAT and AChE. Flow cytometry was also used to analyze nAChR α 7 expression with mecamylamine (MEC) in 12 h. RESULTS: Both protein and mRNA expression of cholinergic system nAChR α 7, ChAT and AChE were found in mature DCs. Furthermore, nAChR α 7 distributed principally in cell membrane, while ChAT and AChE in cytoplasm. Protein expression of AChE was stronger as compared with ChAT ( P < 0. 05), and there was a trend toward increasing as compared with nAChR α 7. And then, the expression of nAChR α 7 was down regulated by MEC as compared with the group without MEC stimulation(P < 0. 05 ). CONCLUSION: An innate cholinergic system was in mature DCs, which was affected by extrinsic factor ( i. e. , MEC). And it may be involved in anti - inflammation immune adjustion of cholinergic closed - circuit.

OBJECTIVETo study the chemical constituents of Securidaca inappendiculata.
METHODColumn chromatographic techniques were applied to isolate constituents. A combination of MS and NMR spectroscopy was used to identify structures of constituents.
RESULTSeven compounds were isolated from the CHCl3 fraction and their structures were elucidated as 3, 4-dihydroxybezoic acid (1), 3-hydroxy-4-methoxylbenzoic acid (2), coniferaldehyde (3), 7-hydroxy-1, 2, 3, 8-tetrame thoxyxanthone (4), 1, 3, 8-trihydroxy-4-methoxyxanthone (5), 1, 3, 8-trihydroxy-2-methoxyxanth-one (6), 1, 3, 6-trihydroxy-2,7-dimethoxyxanthone (7).
CONCLUSIONCompounds 1-6 were isolated for the first time from the genus. The antioxidant activities of compounds 3-6 were assayed by the method of DPPH and compound 3 showed the IC50 value of 4.14 microg x mL(-1).

Objective To explore the expressions of Survivin and VEGF and relationship between them in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods The expressions of Survivin protein and VEGF protein in 50 HCC.30 cirrhosis and 10 normal tissues were assessed by immunohistochemical method. The expressions of Survivin mRNA and VEGF mRNA in 50 HCC,30 cirrhosis and 10 normal tissues were assessed by in situ hybridization. Results The expressions of Survivin and VEGF in cancer tissues, cirrhosis tissues, normal tissues weresignificantly different. The expression of Survivin in HCC tissues was stronger than that in cirrhosis, but the expreesion of VEGF in cirrho- sis was stronger than that in HCC tissues. Conclusion The expression of survivin.is closely associated with the ex- pression of VEGF in HCC and they take positive correlation. The abnormal expressions of Survivin and VEGF are closely associated with the development of HCC.They may play important roles in the development of HCC.

Objective To identify and characterize uveal melanoma associated protein variants with two-dimensional electrophore- sis and mass spectrometry.Design Experiment study.Participants 4 cases of specimens of uveal melanoma and 4 cases of normal con- tributed uveal tissue. Methods Proteins from uveal melanoma and normal urea were separated with two-dimensional eleetrophoresis (2-DE)and visualized with Coomassie G-250.Gels were analyzed by Image Master 5.0 software. The mass spectra were measured by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionizatian time-of-flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF MS)and searched against NCBI database using Mascot software.Main Outcome Measures Differential proteins. Results A set of 30 proteins were differentially expressed in uveal melanoma compared to nomal urea.Twenty-four types of protein only expressed in uveal melanoma.Five types of protein were up-regu- lated and 1 type of one down-regulated.These proteins can be subdivided into groups according to cellular function, such as enzyme, signal transduction, signal regulation, cytoskehton, immune, etc. Conclusions There is significant difference in protein profilings be- tween uveal melanoma and normal uvea. The differentially expressed proteins may be associated with the development of uveal melanoma.

Objective To investigate renal tissue changes in rats exposed to 16 Hz/130 dB infrasound. Methods Twenty male Sprague-Dawley adult rats were randomly divided into a control group,a pseudo-infrasound group, and two infrasound groups-A and B.Groups A and B were exposed to 16 Hz/130 dB infrasound for 2 h or4 h daily respectively over 7 days.Pathological and uhrastruetural changes in their renal tissues were observed with a light microscope and an electron microscope. Results Under the light microscope,Bowman's capsules expanded, epithelial cells were shed, and a little secretion was found in the renal tubules of infrasound group A.Slight degeneration and necrosis of the renal tubules and glomerular exudation could be observed in group B.Under the electron microscope,a large number of lysosomes displayed hyperplasia, there was interstitial edema, and leukocyte pavementing wag found in group B.Other changes such as swelling of podocytes' processes, fusion of foot processes, and vacuolization in the mitochondria could be observed in both infrasound groups. Conclusion Lengthy exposure to 16 Hz/130 dB infrasound can cause severe pathological and uhrastruetural changes in renal tissue,at least in rats.
