Wnt signals widely exist in live creatures, involved in many physical or pathological processes, including the cell prolif-eration, differentiation and apoptosis. Recent studies show that Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway may play an important regula-tory role in the protective effects of neurovascular unit in ische-mic stroke. Some chemicals, such as sulindac and estradiol, and some compound traditional Chinese medicine which contains gly-coside( e. g. rhodiola rosea ) , volatile oil ( e. g. turmeric ) and compound prescription ( e. g. Dan Long Xing Nao Fang ) can protect the neurovascular unit by regulating the pathway. This aims to review the research progress of the protective effects of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway on the neurovascular unit in is-chemic stroke, with combination of chemicals and traditional Chi-nese medicine which can protect the neurovascular unit via Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. It aims to provide the methodology basis for elucidating the mechanism of drugs, and also provide a new idea for researching the new drug which can reduce the dis-ability rate caused by sequela of stroke.

OBJECTIVETo explore the features of DNA damage in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients of normal constitution and abnormal constitution and in high-risk population of NPC.
METHODSUsing single cell gel electrophoresis technique, the DNA damage of peripheral blood lymphocytes was detected in 28 healthy subjects, 27 in high-risk population of NPC, and 13 NPC patients at their first visits. The DNA damage was detected in the populations of normal constitution and of abnormal constitution. The tail length, the tail moment, and the tail DNA% were taken as the indices of DNA damage.
RESULTSThe tail length was (35.77 +/- 4.22) microm, the tail moment was (8.10 +/- 1.63) microm, and the tail DNA% was 57.48% +/- 4.63% in NPC patients. They were (15.25 +/- 4.15) microm, (5.01 +/- 1.92) microm, and 31.99% +/- 4. 11% in high-risk population of NPC. They were (14.31 +/- 3.64) microm, (4. 37 +/- 1.80) microm, and 29. 89% +/- 3. 15% in healthy subjects. There was statistical difference in the three indices among the three populations (P <0.05). In all the three populations, more DNA damage existed in those of abnormal constitution than in those of normal constitution (P <0.05).
CONCLUSIONSObvious instability of genetic materials exists in NPC patients, manifested as severe DNA damage of lymphocytes. In all the three populations, more DNA damage existed in those of abnormal constitution than in those of normal constitution.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of HE’s needling method (three ways for unblocking) in treating mild simple obesity due to dampness from spleen deficiency.Method Forty eligible subjects with mild simple obesity due to dampness from spleen deficiency were randomized into group A and group B, 20 cases in each group. Group A was intervened by mild unblocking method plus intensive unblocking method from HE’s needling method, and group B was by mild unblocking method plus warm unblocking method. The obesity-related indexes were observed before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacies were compared.Result The body weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) were significantly changed after intervention in the treatment group (P<0.05). The body weight was significantly changed after treatment in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, there were no significant differences in comparing the obesity-related indexes (body weight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-hip ratio) between the two groups (P>0.05). The total effective rate was 55.0% in the treatment group versus 10.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01).Conclusion HE’s needling method is effective in treating mild simple obesity due to dampness from spleen deficiency, and mild unblocking method plus intensive unblocking method can produce a more significant efficacy compared to mild unblocking method plus warm unblocking method.

Objective To observe the effect of adenosine A1 receptor (A1AR) on the megalin defect in type 1 diabetic mice with early kidney disease. Methods 7-8 week-old,baseline body weight and fasting blood glucose matched wild type (WT) C57BL/6J mice were selected, and randomly divided into two groups:control group (n=6) and WT DM group (n=6).In the same way, male A1AR knock-out C57BL/6J mice were selected as A1AR-/-DM group (n=6).DM model was established by intraperitoneal injection of streptozocin. The blood glucose (BG),body weight (BW),kidney weight (KW),24 h proteinuria (24hUP) and albumin creatine ratio (ACR) were measured at 4 weeks. The renal pathological lesion was observed and the expression of megalin in proximal tubules was examined by immunohistochemistry. The expression of caspase-1,IL-18 and A1AR were detected by Western blotting. Results At 4th week, compared with WT control mice, the BG,BW,KW and 24hUP of WT DM mice were increased significantly (n=6,P < 0.01),with the pathological glomerular enlargement, mesangial cell proliferation, extracellular matrix accumulation and renal tubule hypertrophy being observed.Immunohistochemistry revealed decreased expression of megalin,an important multiligand protein receptor on the brush border of proximal tubular epithelial cells in WT DM mice, which was correlated with 24hUP (r=-0.645,P < 0.01).Compared with the control mice, the expressions of caspase-1,IL-18 and A1AR were significantly increased in WT DM mice (P < 0.05).For A1AR-/-DM mice, more serious pathological lesion and megalin defect, together with increasing of casapase-1 and heavier proteinuria were observed than those in WT DM mice. Conclusion A1AR may play a protective role in megalin expression of diabetic mice with early kidney disease,in which the mechanism may be associated with caspase-1 related pyroptosis pathway. The details need further exploration.
