BACKGROUND: Senility is the degenerative change of every tissue and organ in biological body,which is the result due to comprehensive actions of various pathological and physiological processes. Rhodiola is a kind of natural medical plant,acting on delaying organic senility,preventing and treating senile disorders,etc. But the definite mechanisms on those have been unknown yet.OBJECTIVE: To probe into the mechanism of rhodiola extract( nuodikang capsule) on anti-senility.DESIGN: Randomized,controlled experimental research based on the experimental animals.SETTING: Neurological internal department in a military hospital affiliated to a university of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: The experiment was performed in Pathology Experiment Room of Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA from March to August 2002. Sixty Kunming mice were randomized into normal control group,model group,3 dosage groups of 1,2,4 g/kg of nuodikang successively and Vitamin E(Vit. E) positive control group 0. 1 mg/kg,10 mice in each group.INTERVENTIONS: In the model,nuodikang groups and Vit. E positive control,physiological saline solution of D-galactose 30 g/Lwas applied in subcutaneous at the back of neck,150 mg/kg per day,continuously for 8weeks. Simultaneously,in nuodikang group and Vit. E positive control,the medicine was applied by gastric perfusion,once daily,continuously for 8weeks.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Effects of nuodikang capsule on activity of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),the content of lipidperoxides(LPO),the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) in the brain,the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and ultrastructure of mitochondrion in hippocampal neurons.RESULTS: In nuodikang capsule groups of 1,2,4 g/kg,the significant differences(P ＜ 0.05) presented in LPO content in brain tissue[(30. 1±2.9),(27.8±3.1),(26.9±1.9) nmol/g] and MDA content [(110.2±13.5),(95.4±20.1),(90.2±16.5) nmol/g],1 compared with the model group[ (33.4 ± 2.2),(126.5 ± 17.2) nmol/g],indicating significant differences(P ＜ 0.05),and LDH activity[(1.74±0. 14),(1.92 ±0. 23),(2.04 ±0.21) NU/g] and SOD activity[ (119. 1 ±2.2),(121.3 ± 0.9),(126.4 ± 2.0) NU/g] were remarkably increased,compared with the model group[ (1.68 ±0. 19),(115.9 ±2. 1) NU/g],indicating significant differences( P ＜ 0.05) . It was indicated by electro-microscope that nuodikang capsule groups of 2,4 g/kg acted on obvious protection on degenerative change of mitochondrion in hippocampal neurons caused by galactose.CONCLUSION: Nuodikang capsule acts significantly on anti-senility,which is related to its anti-oxidative injury and protection on neurons.

Objective To determine the expression level of CD154 in systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) and its role in the pathogenesis. Methods CD154 were detected by flow cytometry in CD19+ peripheral blood lymphocytes from 16 active lupus patients and 14 healthy controls. Effects of anti-CD154, on the proliferation and IgG secretion by peripheral B lymphocytes were also observed. Successful pain management of perioperative shoulder arthroscopy may allow patients to go home earlier, improve the quality of life in perioperative period, and facilitate rehabilitation. A comprehensive method to perioperative pain control has three stages including preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phase. Successful pain reduction should begin preoperatively because of an excellent communication between patient and physician, moreover, preoperative analgesia also should be administered. Intraoperative efforts should include local wound infiltration and the administration of anesthetic medication intra-articularly. Postoperative management should include oral analgesics, constant infusion devices, Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA), sedative-hypnotic drug, continuous cryotherapy and vicarious treatment.

Objective To investigate the relationship between diameter and drainage territory of tributaries of the hepatic vein and the clinical value of hepatic venous drainage territory evaluation before LDLT.Methods MSCT covering abdomen was performed on 68 donors.The images were transported and reconstructed in GE Advantage Windows 4.2 workplace and IQQA-liver CT images readout and analytical system.The tributaries of hepatic vein were marked,and the diameter and drainage territory were measured.Functional hepatic volume (FHV),and effective hepatic volume (EfHV) of donors and recipients according to the hepatic venous reconstruction results during the operation were calculated.The corresponding graft-to-recipient body weight ratio of recipients was calculated.Results In the tributaries of 220 hepatic veins studied,the coefficient correlation of diameter and drainage territory was 0.752 (P≤0.01),but there was significant difference in the drainage territory of the veins with same diameter.By using Chi-square analysis,venous diameter and drainage territory are classified and statistical frequency by 5 mm and 50 cm3 respectively,and there was statistically significant difference between them (X2 =61.97,P＜0.01).The mean value of drainage territory of RHV (RHVV) was 510.80 ± 168.33 cm3,and that of RFHV (drainage territory with reconstructed IRHV added) was 577.26± 156.72 cm3 respectively.The mean value of drainage territory of LHV (LHVV) was 292.70 ± 76.61 cm3,and that of LFHV (drainage territory with Ⅳ segment tributaries of MHV added) was 551.26 ± 111.82 cm3 respectively.In 25 grafts without MHV,the mean value of drainage territory of EfHV was 405.52-1038.43 cm3.In 43 donors donating grafts with MHV,the mean value of drainage territory of EfHV was 175.35-575.35 cm3.Conclusion There is significant difference in drainage territory of same diameter veins.Bigger diameter doesn't always mean bigger drainage territory.Hepatic vein drainage territory evaluation before LDLT has important clinical significance to formulate surgery scheme.

Objective To demonstrate the mechanisms underlying the efficacy of telmisartan in diabetic nePhroPathy, and discuss the role of PPARγin this Process. Methods The diabetic nePhroPathy rat models were established and randomly assigned to control grouP, telmisartan grouP ( 5 mg · kg-1 · d-1 ) and combination of telmisartan and PPARγ inhibitor grouP (telmisartan:5 mg·kg-1·d-1;GW9662:0. 5 mg·kg-1·d-1). After 12 weeks of treatment,the biochemical indexes of blood and urine,kidney weight,renal Pathology in each grouP of diabetic nePhroPathy rats were measured and comPared. The leVels of IL_1,IL_6 and TNF_α in blood of each grouP were detected by ELISA and comPared. The leVels of HGF and actiVated NF_κB (P65) in renal tissue of each grouP were detected by Western blotting and comPared. Results In diabetic nePhroPathy rats, telmisartan lowered the leVels of serum glucose, serum creatinine, urinary Protein and kidney weight, decreased the glomerular Volume,mesangial Proliferation and inflammatory cell infiltration,reduced blood leVels of IL_1,IL_6,and TNF_α,and decreased leVel of actiVated NF_κB (P65) in renal tissue. The leVel of HGF in renal tissue was eleVated by telmisartan. NeVertheless,these changes were Partly reVersed by PPARγ inhibitor GW9662. Conclusion PPARγ Presents an imPortant role in treatment of diabetic nePhroPathy by telmisartan.

Objective To investigate the consistency in the measurement of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT)volume using non-ECG-gated CT and ECG-gated CT.Methods ECG-gated CT and non-ECG-gated CT examinations were obtained in 104 subjects. The ECG-gated group was outlined the epicardium by an associate chief physician with a hand-painted method,the CT value of quan-titative adipose tissue was ranged from -30 HU to -250 HU.The non-ECG-gated group was outlined the epicardium by two asso-ciate chief physicians,A and B;The two CT values were ranged from -20 HU to -250 HU and from -30 HU to -250 HU,re-spectively.The measurement results of two groups were compared for the analysis of the relationship between EAT volume and cor-onary atherosclerosis.Results After the employment of CT value ranging from -20 HU to -250 HU for non-ECG-gated group, the measurement result was well consistent with ECG-gated group.The measurement results obtained by two associate chief physi-cians using the same range of CT value were in a good consistency.The EAT volumes obtained by various measurements were all correlated to the occurrence of coronary atherosclerosis.Conclusion After adjusting the range of CT value,two methods were in a good consistency.Non-ECG-gated CT measurement of EAT volume is easy to operate,which has a better practical value.

Application of mind mapis ex-tremely simple;it is suitable for medical education and is conducive to enhancing teaching efficiency.

Objective To determine the clinical value of EUS in combination with detection of CA19-9 and CA242 for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.Methods General features of high-risk group were determed by EUS and the plasma levels of CA19-9 and CA242 measured by ELISA.Results The serum level of CA19-9 was abnormal in 9.80% (10/102) and that of CA242 in 12.75% (13/102) of the patients.They were both abnormal in 7 cases.Of the 7 cases, 3 were found to suffer from pancreatic cancer by EUS, 1 had the tumor that had been clinically confirmed, 1 had posterior peritoneal tumor and 2 were normal.Among 102 cases detected by EUS, 2 showed low echo in pan-creatic head, 2 semi-cyst, 3 pancreatic cancer and proved by pathology.Accurate diagnotic rate, sensi-tivity and specificity were 90.20% (92/102), 50% (4/8) and 93.62% (88/94), respectively, for serum CA19-9.For the serum CA242, the 3 parameters were 87.25% (89/102), 50% (4/8) and 90.43% (85/94), respectively.For combination of both methods, they were 98.04% (100/102), 100%(8/8) and 97.87%(92/94), respectively.Accurate diagnostic rate of the latter was significantly higher than that of the former 2(P＜0.05).Concision Combination of EUS with detection of serum CA19-9 and CA242 is of great vlaue for early screening of pancreatic cancer.
