In this study, modification technology by surface coating was used to improve the flowability of powder of Chinese herbs extracts. Seven kinds of powder of Chinese herbs extracts were coated with 1% silica nanoparticles using an under-driven Comil. The powder characteristics tester was used to evaluate the flowability of uncoated and coated powders. Surface morphology and particle size distribution of powders were compared by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical microscope. The powder hygroscopicity was also investigated. The results showed that, after modification, angle of repose, angle of spatula, compressibility and adhesiveness extremely decreased, and flowability index substantially increased, the powder flowability was significantly improved, especially Gegen and Dahuang extracts powders. Scanning electron microscopy images showed the distribution of silica nanoparticles on the host drug particle surfaces. There were no remarkable changes in the particle size distribution and hygroscopicity of all powders after coating. Therefore, Comilling for surface coating modification technology was an effective method to improve the flowability of Chinese herbs extracts and suggested a possible way forward to enhance the quality of Chinese drugs pharmaceutics in their study and manufacture.

The expressions of Ki67 and FHIT were detected by immunohistochemical staining in 15 cases of adrenocortical carcinoma, 42 cases with adrenocortical adenoma,6 cases of adrenocortical hyperplasia, and 10 cases of normal adrenocortical tissue. The results showed that the highest expression of Ki67 and the lowest expression of FHIT were found in adrenocortical carcinoma. There were significant differences in the Ki67 and FHIT between adrenocortical adenoma and adrenocortical carcinoma ( both P < 0. 05 ). There existed negative correlation between the expressions of Ki67 and FHIT( r=-0. 712, P<0.05 ). Ki67 over-expression and loss of FHIT expression may be involved in the occurrence and development of adrenocortical carcinoma. It is suggested that combined detections of Ki67 and FHIT may have reference significance in the differentiation of adrenocortical adenoma from adrenocortical carcinoma.

Objective: To explore the influencing factors of slow blood flow phenomenon after emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: Clinical and PCI angiographic data of 488 patients, who were diagnosed as AMI and received primary PCI in our hospital from Jan 2010 to Jun 2011, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into slow blood flow group (n=51, TIMI flow ≤ grade 2) and normal flow group (n=437, TIMI flow= grade 3). Their clinical characteristics between two groups were compared. Results: Compared with normal flow group, there were significant reductions in percentages of thrombus aspiration (75.3% vs. 60.8%) and application of platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor antagonist (81.7% vs. 68.6%) during PCI, and significant rise in total length of implanted stents [(31.8±12.2) mm vs. (35.7±12.0) mm] in slow blood flow group, P<0.05 all. Multi-factor Logistic regression analysis indicated that percentages of thrombus aspiration during PCI and total length of stents were independent influencing factors for slow blood flow (P<0.05 both). Conclusion: Percentages of thrombus aspiration and total length of stents during PCI are independent influencing factors for slow blood flow.

OBJECTIVETo study the protective effects of ofloxacin by reduction of endotoxin on lung in rats with hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS).

METHODSRat models of HPS were induced by ligating the bile duct to result in the biliary cirrhosis. Thirty male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups with 10 animals in each one: sham operation group (the bile ducts were isolated and 2 ml NS was injected i.p), HPS model group (the bile ducts were ligated and 2 ml NS was injected i.p) and levofloxacin group (the bile ducts were did as the former group and 20 mg/kg ofloxacin injected i.p). After 6 weeks the portal pressure, ratios of dry weight to wet weight of lung (D/W), weight of spleen, plasma levels of endotoxin, MPO active and MDA contents in the lung. Plasma and lavage fluid of lung were examined. The results of the blood-gas analysis, the bacterial culture of blood, bile and ascites and the evaluation of pathologic change of lung be also investigated.

RESULTSIn levofloxacin group, portal pressure [(19.28 +/- 2.3) compare with (17.80 +/- 2.18)cm H2O, P<0.01], D/W [(5.1 +/- 0.7) compare with (4.9 +/- 0.7), P <0.01], plasma endotoxin levels [(59 +/- 6.2) compare with (268 +/- 35.6)ng/L, P<0.01], MPO active [(0.40 +/- 0.10) compare with (0.24 +/- 0.03)U, P<0.01] and MDA [(0.32 +/- 0.05) compare with (0.22 +/- 0.03) micromol/L, P<0.01] contents in the lung were significantly decreased compared with those in HPS group, and the inflammation of lung was also obviously alleviated.

CONCLUSIONReduction of endotoxin can attenuate the injury of lung in HPS rats.

Objective To investigate the feature of regional grey matter volume changes in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients by voxel-based morphometry ( VBM) and presume the possible pathophysiological basis.Methods Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and T1-weighted three-dimensional MRI were obtained from 32 RRMS and 32 sex- and age-matched normal controls.The comparison of grey matter volume between the two groups was analyzed by statistical analysis software SPM5 and VBM.A Pearson correlational analysis was used to assess correlation between gre matter loss and disease duration,expanded disability status scale (EDSS) and visible brain lesion volume.Results Compared with normal controls,RRMS patients had extensive bilateral grey matter atrophy in thalami (left 2031 and right 1711),caudate (left 815 and right 1031) and parahippocampal gyrus (left 313 and right 467),as well as several cortical regions in frontal,temporal,parietal,and occipital lobes (t value were between 8.853 and 11.163,all P ＜ 0.01).Regional grey matter loss in bilateral thalami ( r value were - 0.596 on left and were - 0.694 on right) and right caudate ( r = - 0.409 ) were strongly negatively correlated with visible brain lesion volume in RRMS (all P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusions By means of VBM,extensive grey matter atrophy are found in RRMS patients,especially in deep grey matter.Axonal degeneration secondary to visible brain lesions may be a key pathogenesis of grey matter atrophy in RRMS.

BACKGROUNDThere have been no detailed reports of the three-dimensional structure and the relationship between the external and internal vascularizations observed successively for a long duration in the rat fetus, although many authors have studied the vascular morphology of the developing brain. This study examined the three-dimensional structure of both the external and internal vascularizations of the prenatal rat telencephalon from embryonic days 12 (E12) to 20 (E20).

METHODA microvascular casting method for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used in this study, along with vascular staining using gold-gelatin solution-autometallography (GGS-AMG) after intravascular injection of colloidal gold, as well as hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining for paraffin embedded specimens.

RESULTSIn GGS-AMG stains, E16 fetuses had a few short perforating cortical blood vessels (SPCVs); E17 fetuses had long perforating cortico-medullary vessels (LPCVs). Older fetuses had specific patterns of vascular networks in the cortex and the deeper subcortical part of the telencephalon. In the cortex, fine longitudinal blood vessels were connected by transverse channels. The deep telencephalon had fine blood vessels running in all directions. Using SEM, the external vascularization was already visible in E12 fetuses as arborizations of arterial branches, forming a mesh of fine vascular networks covering the telencephalon. A coralliform fine venous plexus was observed in the external vascularization of E16 fetuses. There were ring-like anastomoses and bud-like protrusions in the network of small blood vessels, most likely the angiogenesis of fetal vessels. From E12 to E16, an immature and incomplete internal vascularization began to appear. There were short blood vessels with ballooned terminals branching from the external vascularization. They penetrated the brain tissue to form networks in the superficial layer, comparable to SPCVs. In E17 to E20 fetuses, tortuous venous branches, straight arterial blood vessels, and a fine network of small blood vessels formed the external vascularization. There were fewer arterial than venous branches connecting to the fine networks of small blood vessels. LPCVs were noted at E17, at the time the white matter emerged. They branched from the external vascularization, and perpendicularly penetrated the brain surface, traversing the cortical plate, and entering into the deep brain. At E17, arterial and venous blood vessels could be clearly distinguished in the external vascularization. At E20, the cortex and white matter contained specific arrangements of networks of fine blood vessels, as seen by GGS-AMG staining.

CONCLUSIONThese findings show that the development of both the external and internal vascularization follows the development of the telencephalon. In particular, the emergence of the cortical plate and white matter on E16 and E17 influence the development of both the internal and the external vascularization. The laminal arrangement of blood vessels was not observed corresponding to the respective laminal neuronal layers.
