The herbs used as the material for traditional Chinese medicine are mostly planted at mountain areas where there is appropriate weather condition. Due to the complex terrain condition in mountain area, the planting at such places is always associated with a scattered pattern, which inevitably bring difficulty to the work of accurate measurement for the planting area. Advanced research about monitoring the planting area for medicine-herb under complex environmental condition is so critical and meaningful for developing the medicine-herb planting to a large scale and an industry. Therefore, this research, taking the planting of Herpetospermum pedunculosum in Luding county as an example, utilizes RS&GIS: using the image data from TM and ETM datum as the remote sensing information source, integrating GPS data from quadrat survey on the spots, and analyzing on a GIS platform, to extract the planting area of H. pedunculosum in Luding county. The results indicate that: (1) the method and technology used to estimate the planting area of H. pedunculosum are feasible and can be applied to monitoring the planting area of medicine-herb at mountain area under complex environmental conditions: (2) the planting area of H. pedunculosum in Luding county is estimated to be 857. 246 acres by the methods utilized in this research, which is closed to the value from local statistical data with an error range less than 5%; (3) in consideration of those inevitable errorrs generating from the procedures such as remote sensing data acquisition, data preprocessing, data interpretation, and so on, and the fact that the classification of remote sensing data, which must be implemented by those above procedures, was used directly to extract the herb type, the accuracy of area estimation for the herb is significantly influenced by the accuracy of classification for herb type, and the estimated area is inevitably associated with some error.

Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 2011;20(1):18-21
Objective To investigate the value of contrast enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in the treatment of small hepatic malignancies with radiofrequency ablation(RFA). Methods Seventy patients with 104 pathologically proved malignant liver lesions treated by RFA (size 0.7 -2.7 cm) were divided into 2 groups including CEUS group and control group. In CEUS group,39 patients(54 lesions) were treated with RFA guided by CEUS, while in control group 31 patients (50 lesions) were guided by conventional ultrasonography. There was no significant difference between clinical data of the two groups. Results Seventeen tumors(among them,12 lesions were less than 1.5 cm in diameter) in 13 patients showed more clearly on CEUS image than on conventional ultrasonography image (31.5% ) in CEUS group. The tumor necrosis rate at one month after RFA was 100% in CEUS group, and 92% in control group ( P = 0. 034).The number of RFA sessions per tumor was 1.00± 0.00 in CEUS group, and 1.08 ± 0.27 in control group (P = 0.000). Local tumor progression rate was 0 in CEUS group and 4% in control group ( P = 0. 138)during the period of 8 - 52 months follow-up (average 21 months). Conclusions CEUS can not only improve the display of small hepatic malignancies but also provide precise guidance in contrast with conventional ultrasonography. Compared with control group, RFA of small hepatic malignancies guided by CEUS lower the number of RFA sessions, enhance the tumor necrosis rate, decrease post-RFA local progression and therefore it has extensive clinical value.

9.N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors mediate diphosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases through Src family tyrosine kinases and Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II in rat hippocampus after cerebral ischemia.
Hui-Wen WU ; Hong-Fu LI ; Jun GUO
Neuroscience Bulletin 2007;23(2):107-112
OBJECTIVEExtracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) can be activated by calcium signals. In this study, we investigated whether calcium-dependent kinases were involved in ERKs cascade activation after global cerebral ischemia.
METHODSCerebral ischemia was induced by four-vessel occlusion, and the calcium-dependent proteins were detected by immunoblot.
RESULTSLethal-simulated ischemia significantly resulted in ERKs activation in N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-dependent manner, accompanying with differential upregulation of Src kinase and Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) activities. With the inhibition of Src family tyrosine kinases or CaMKII by administration of PP2 or KN62, the phosphorylation of ERKs was impaired dramatically during post-ischemia recovery. However, ischemic challenge also repressed ERKs activity when Src kinase was excessively activated.
CONCLUSIONSrc family tyrosine kinases and CaMKII might be involved in the activation of ERKs mediated by NMDA receptor in response to acute ischemic stimuli in vivo, but the intense activation of Src kinase resulted from ischemia may play a reverse role in the ERKs cascade.
