Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of short fiber ribbon combined with resin bonding technology for the treatment of food impaction between posterior teeth. Methods:98 cases of vertical food impaction between posterior teeth( total of 135 vertical food impaction units) were included. 73 units were treated by short quartz fiber ribbon combined with resin bonding technology( SQFRB) and 63 by resin bonding(RB). 12, 24 and 36 months after restoration, clinical effects were evaluated referring to the Modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Criteria, data were statistically analyzed. Results:12, 24 and 36 months after treatment the cure rate of SQFRB was 97. 3%, 97. 3% and 95. 9%, inefficacy rate was 0, 0 and 0;the cure rate of RB was 85. 5%, 82. 2% and 82. 2%, the inefficacy rate was 4. 8%, 11. 3% and 12. 9%, respectively(between groups, P<0. 05). Conclusion:Minimally inva-sive restorations using short fiber ribbon combined with resin bonding technology is effective in the treatment of vertical food impaction between posterior teeth.

By summarizing the recent literatures on brain mechanisms with acupuncture intervention based on blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD)-functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), the BOLD-fMRI examination and analysis methods, the points to be acupunctured, the corresponding meridian activation regions, the specific intensity range, functions and indications of the acupoints, the manifestation of 'bi-directional regulation' characteristics, fMRI performance of chronergy, laterality and needling qi of acupuncture were reviewed to provide the ideas for future research in this area.

OBJECTIVETo summarize clinical outcomes of locking compression plate (LCP) combined with minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) for the treatment of Pilon fracture.

METHODSFrom January 2009 to December 2012, Pilon fracture patients treated by LCP with MIPPO were retrospectively analyzed. All open fractures, pathologic fractures and those who had limb vascular disease or nerve injury were excluded. Thirty-eight patients were enrolled, including 29 males and 9 females aged from 21 to 78 years old with an average of 48 years old. According to AO classification, 20 cases were type B, 18 cases were type C. Operative time, blood loss, reduction quality, time of fracture healing complications and postoperative ankle joint function were applied for evaluating clinical outcomes, AOFAS scoring were used for assessing postoperative clinical effects.

RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 13 to 24 months (averaged 18 months). All patients obtained bone union without any plate failures or loss of fixation/reduction. One patient occurred superficial wound infection, and resolved with antibiotics and local wound care. Postoperative average AOFAS score was 81 (ranged 65 to 97).

CONCLUSIONLCP with MIPPO for Pilon fratcure has advantages of less invasion, fewer complications and satisfactory ankle function.

OBJECTIVE: To access application value of multi-slice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) and coronary artery calcium scoring (CACS) in investigation the coronary artery disease (CAD), and to explore the effective way of virtual autopsy to evaluate the sudden death due to CAD. METHODS: Nine cases of sudden cardiac death were collected to analyze MSCT before the autopsy. The quantitative analysis of the degree of coronary artery calcium was made by Agatston's method. The CACS of all the subjects were calculated based on the diagnostic criteria for CAD, in which calcium scoring was more than 400. The results of CACS were compared with that of the autopsy. RESULTS: Only 2 cases got the high calcium scoring which were more than 400 in the 9 cases died of CAD confirmed by the autopsy. The prediction rate of CACS for CAD was only 22.2%. Pulmonary edema of different severity was found in both autopsy and MSCT. There was a higher morbidity rate in the left anterior descending of coronary artery than the other branches. CONCLUSION Obvious calcification of coronary artery can be detected by MSCT and calculating CACS. To detect subtle calcification needs other technologies such as postmortem angiography.

OBJECTIVETo establish an experimental model of HCV C-HBV X co-expression protein and explore its effect on the expression of VEGF.

METHODSThe HBV X gene was recovered by enzyme excision and inserted into PBK-CMV and PBK-HCVC, and recombinant plasmids PBK-X and PBK-X-C were constructed. The plasmids PBK-CMV, PBK-X, PBK-HCVC and PBK-X-C were transfected into HepG2 cells with liposomes. After being selected by G418, resistant colonies were obtained. Reverse transcription PCR and Western blot were used to show HBV X and HCV core protein expression. VEGF was analyzed using immunohistochemical methods and Western blot.

RESULTSThe recombinant plasmid PBK-X-C expressed HBV X and HCV core protein efficiently under the control of the vectors promoter. VEGF and VEGF mRNA of the cells co-expressing HCV C-HBV X proteins were higher than those cells expressing HBV X, HCV C and vector alone.

CONCLUSIONHBV X-HCV C co-expression protein can increase the expression of VEGF of HepG2 cells. It suggests that HBV and HCV have a synergic action in the carcinogenesis.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety of cryopreserved and thawed peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) fractionated return infusions in children. 35 children patients with malignant tumors (13 acute leukaemias, 15 neuroblastomas and 7 malignant lymphomas) received fractionated return infusions of cryopreserved stem cells after undergoing high-dose chemotherapy without or with total body irradiation. The toxicities of 70 return infusions were evaluated. All patients were mobilized by chemotherapy plus recombination human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF), and then PBSCs were collected by a separator CS-3000 plus or COBE spectra-4. The grafts were cryopreserved in 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSD) and stored in liquid nitrogen. There were totally 70 PBSC transfusions. The total volume of PBSCs transfused: 190 - 420 ml (265 +/- 73 ml or 13.7 +/- 4.2 ml/kg) with a mean of (4.43 +/- 1.91) x 10(8)/kg of PBSCs, and 0.94 +/- 0.18 g/kg of DMSO. The single dose: 90 - 300 ml (132 +/- 37 ml or 6.6 +/- 5.2 ml/kg) with a mean of 0.68 +/- 0.12 g/kg of DMSO. Symptoms occurring during the infusions were recorded. All patients were monitored for 24 hours after infusion. Pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, and respiratory rate were recorded every 15 minutes. At four hours before and 8 hours after infusion, urinalysis was performed. Serum potassium, sodium, creatinine, total bilirubin, aspartate amino transferase (AST), and alanine amino transferase (ALT) levels were examined within 24 hours before and after the first infusion. The results showed that the toxicities observed included hemoglobinuria in 54 return infusions (77.1%), headache in 28 (40.0%), nausea in 24 (34.3%), vomiting in 17 (24.3%), and abdominal pain in 8 (11.4%). Patients who received a graft > 200 ml tended to have a higher frequency of hemoglobinuria, headache, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain (P<0.01), and they disappeared quickly, too. Total bilirubin increased after the first return infusion (P<0.01), and there was a significant correlation between the volume of infusion and the degree of total bilirubin increase (r=0.8977, P<0.01). No renal failure or shock occurred. It is concluded that transient hemoglobinuria, headache, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are common toxicities associated with PBSC autograft, and these toxicities are related with a single volume of PBSCs transfused. Total bilirubin increase is correlated with the volume of infusion. In a word, the toxicity is less frequent and lower severe in children with fractionated infusions of cryopreserved peripheral blood stem cell.

Objective To establish the quality standard for Yiwei Xiaoyu Granules.Methods TLC was used for the qualitative analyses of Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Angelicae Sinensis Radix and Dendrobii Caulis; HPLC was applied to determine the contents of notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1, ginsenoside Rb1and ginsenoside Re. Results The TLC spots were clear and free from negative interference. Notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1, ginsenoside Rb1and ginsenoside Re showed good linear relationships within the ranges of 0.067 2–0.672 μg (r=0.999 6), 0.501 2–5.012 μg (r=0.999 6), 0.326 5–3.265 μg (r=0.999 6), 0.098 3–0.983 μg (r=0.999 7), whose average recoveries were 96.32% (RSD=1.3%), 96.45% (RSD=1.5%), 101.23% (RSD=1.7%), and 97.89% (RSD=1.7%), respectively. Conclusion This method is accurate, reliable, and reproducible, which can be used for the quality control of Yiwei Xiaoyu Granules.

Objective:To determine the optimal condition for mouse embryonic stem cells (mESC) culture with stirred bioreactor,and to develop a method for mass production of embryoid bodies (EB). Methods:The different initial cell concentrations of mESC and the initial stirring speed of bioreactor were investigated to determine the optimal condition for EB formation. Induced by ascorbic acid,the differentiation of EBs formed in stirred bioreactor into cardiomyocytes was compared with EBs formed in Petri dish. Immunofluorescence staining and RT-PCR were used to identify the cardiomyocytes derived from mESC. Results:The formation of a large number of uniform relatively EBs was achieved in stirred bioreactor when mESC were seeded initially with 1?105~3?105 cells/ml and stirring speed was set to 15~30r/min. Most of cells in the EBs formed in bioreactor were viable. EBs produced in bioreactor differentiated into cardiomyocytes more efficiently compared with EBs from Petri dish. The cardiac specific genes were expressed in ESC-derived cardiomyocytes. Conclusions:Stirred bioreactor culture could enhance the efficiency of EB formation and differentiation into cardiomyocytes,which may be a more ideal culture system for EB formation.

AIMTo investigate the water-soluble steroidal saponins in total saponin from Dioscorea nipponica Makino and look for new active compounds.

METHODSThe compounds were isolated with silica gel, PTLC and HPLC, and their structures were elucidated by acid hydrolysis, physical and chemical data and spectral analysis (IR, NMR, MS, HMQC, HMBC) as well as chemical correlations.

RESULTSThe two steroidal saponins (water-insoluble saponin and water-soluble saponin) were isolated from the total saponin of Dioscorea nipponica Makino. The structures were elucidated as diosgenin 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopy ranosyl (1-->2)-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->3)]]-beta-D-glucopyranoside (I), diosgenin 3-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1-->3)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1-->4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1-->4)]-beta-D-glucopyranoside (II).

CONCLUSIONCompound II is a new steroidal saponin and firstly isolated from Dioscorea nipponica Makino. It was named as dioscin Dc.
