In order to improve the metabolism yield of cordycepin and adenosine,we studied nitrogen sources ,the levels of nitrogen sources and carbon sources, dynamic development in liquid culture ,as well as the total yield of cordycepin and adenosine in culture system through determining the contents of cordycepin and adenosine by HPLC .The results are as follows: not only animal protein but also some plant protein is very good nitrogen sources; in culture solution the suitable levels of nitrogen sources and carbon sources is respectively 3% and 4%; the content of adenosine in culture solution is very low, while it is quite high in mycelia; it is much higher that the total yield of cordycepin in culture solution than in mycelia; when the culture system is oscillated and cultured after 7~9 days, the total yield of cordycepin and adenosine are both high.

AlM:To discuss the protective effect ofα-mangostin on retinal light damage in mice.METHODS:Totally 30 Balb/c mice, aged 6~8wk, were randomly divided into the control group, light-exposure group and α-mangostin group. Every group contained 10 mice. Mice of α-mangostin group were treated with alpha-mangostin at the dose of 30mg/( kg · d ) body weight by intragastric administration daily for 7d, and then exposed to white light at the 5th d. The light-exposure group and α-mangostin group were exposed to 5 000 ± 200lx white light-emmiting diodes (LEDs) for continuously 1h to establish the mice model of retinal light damage. Flash -electroretinograme was recorded 72h after light exposure. The changes in retinal morphology of mice were observed by light microscopy. Retinas were extracted to detect the malondialdhyde ( MDA ) content change of the retinal homogenate.RESULTS: Flash-electroretinogram ( F-ERG ) showed that retinal dysfunction was less severe in α-mangostin group than in light-exposure group ( P<0. 05 ). Light microscopy test showed that retina structural damage was less severe in α-mangostin group than in light-exposure group (P<0. 05). The level of MDA in retinal tissue of α-mangostin group was significantly lower when compared with light-exposure group (P<0. 05).CONCLUSlON: α-mangostin inhibits lipid peroxidation induced by light damage and protect retina against light damage.
5.Oral microbiology: past, present and future.
International Journal of Oral Science 2009;1(2):47-58
Since the initial observations of oral bacteria within dental plaque by van Leeuwenhoek using his primitive microscopes in 1680, an event that is generally recognized as the advent of oral microbiological investigation, oral microbiology has gone through phases of "reductionism" and "holism". From the small beginnings of the Miller and Black period, in which microbiologists followed Koch's postulates, took the reductionist approach to try to study the complex oral microbial community by analyzing individual species; to the modern era when oral researchers embrace "holism" or "system thinking", adopt new concepts such as interspecies interaction, microbial community, biofilms, poly-microbial diseases, oral microbiological knowledge has burgeoned and our ability to identify the resident organisms in dental plaque and decipher the interactions between key components has rapidly increased, such knowledge has greatly changed our view of the oral microbial flora, provided invaluable insight into the etiology of dental and periodontal diseases, opened the door to new approaches and techniques for developing new therapeutic and preventive tools for combating oral polymicrobial diseases.

Objective: To investigate the long-term outcome of anterior decompression and bone graft fusion for cervical spondylotic myelopathy(CSM) and factors affecting the outcome. Methods: Two hundred and forty-five patients with CSM were treated with anterior cervical decompression and auto iliac bone graft fusion, of whom 31 had a second operation between 4 months and 2 years after operation. Follow-up studies were carried out within 5 to 15 years after operation, averaging 6.8 years. Results: Function evaluation: excellent in 118 cases (48.16%), good in 71 (28.98%), passable in 35 (14.29%) and poor in 21 (8.57%). According to the 40 points score method, there was an average of 8 point increase in all cases, of which 101 were between 36 to 40 points, 54 between 31 to 35 points. Conclusion: The long-term outcome of surgical treatment for CSM is definite. Significant factors affecting the outcome include timing of operation, degree of pathology and technique of surgery.

Objective To explore therapeutic effects and mechanisms of radical scavenger edaravone on experimental cerebral hemorrhage. Methods Two hundred-forty male SD rats were divided randomly into four groups:control group, cerebral hemorrhage group, edaravone treatment group before operation (A) and edaravone treatment group after operation (B).Experimental cerebral hemorrhage model was made according to the method reported by Rosenberg.Water quantity contained in brain and nervous missing sign were observed, meanwhile the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in brain tissue were measured. Results Compared with cerebral hemorrhage group, nervous missing sign and water quantity contained in brain obviously changed in edaravone treatment group (P

Objective To find a proper number of implanted fiducials in order to reconcile both more accurate image tacking and less pain for the patients. Methods The phantom was made of two parts of different materials. The inner part was a ball-cube phantom developed by Accuray Corporation, which could be regarded as a rigid body, with 5 fiducials inside using as the reference to align the whole phantom in the experiment. The outer part was made of additional silicone rubber with two components to simulate soft tissue as a non-rigid body, which was implanted with 8 fiducials inside. All combinations of different number of fiducials were tracked to aquire the target location information, which were then compared with the reference position that was set by the inner 5 fiducials to obtain the deviations of the translation and the rotation parameters. Thus the impact of the number of fiducials on image target localization accuracy could be analyzed easily. Results When 4 fiducials are used for tracking, the decline of translation and rotation errors for every fiducial is largest (0.086 mm and 0.033°).The translation error was decreased by 0.343 mm from 1 to 4 fiducials, while by only 0.077 mm from 4 to 8 fiducials;the same decline was observed for rotation errors (0.131° for 3 to 4 fiducials , and 0.09° for 4 to 8 fiducials , respectively) .Conclusions When 4 fiducials are used for tracking, the decline of errors for every fiducial is maximum. When one more fiducial is adding, the image target localization accuracy can be enhanced obviously from 1 to 4 fiducials, but not as obvious for more than 4 fiducials.
