Chlamydial infection in human urogenital tract induces inflammation and causes tissue damage and scarring. It is thought that cytokine production by the Chlamydia-infected cells plays a key role in chlamydial disease processes. Although many cytokines have been detected during chlamydial infection, little is known about the molecular mechanisms on how Chlamydia triggers and sustains the inflammatory cytokine cascades. In the current study, chlamydial infection of the human cervical epithelial cell line HeLa cells can induce the production of IL-8, IL-1α, IL-1β and IL-6. Using inhibitors for probing intracellular kinase signaling pathways required for the Chlamydia-induced cytokines, it was found that the Chlamydia-activated MAPK / P38 pathway is required for the chlamydial induction of IL-1α and IL-6 while both the Chlamydia-activated MAPK/ERK and MAPK/P38 pathways contribute to the production of IL-8.

Secondary glaucoma is a kind of complications after vitrectomy, its etiologies are various and complex. Ineffective therapies might cause irreversible damage on optic nerves and visual field defect, even the loss in visual function. Nowadays, this project has been paid great attention by various researches both in China and abroad. Both the pathogens and therapies of secondary glaucoma after vitrectomy are analyzed as follows.

?AlM:To evaluate and observe the efficacy of silicon oil ( SO ) , perfluoropropane ( C3 F8 ) and balanced salt solution ( BSS ) that can be used as tamponade during vitrectomy to treat proliferative diabetic retinopathy ( PDR) complicated with vitreous hemorrhage ( VH) .
?METHODS: Studied retrospectively on 74 eyes of 60 patients who underwent vitrectomy surgery with diabetic vitreous hemorrhage in our hospital during June 2008 and June 2014. Based on repeated prior examines on fundus details and the vitrectomy tamponades were chosen. All the patients had been followed up at least 3mo. Depending on different tamponades, the paitents were nonrandomized in three groups and contrasted as visual acuity, intraocular pressure ( lOP ) and complications respectively.
?RESULTS: There was statistically significant difference among these three groups in preoperative eyesight ( P<0. 05 ). Moreover, the preoperative eyesight was statistically different between SO and BSS (P<0. 05), and difference for the rest being not remarkable(P>0. 05). The difference being statistically difference in the postoperative vision among these three groups ( P <0. 05). The further analysis showed that the paired-comparisons were statistically significant difference between SO and BSS ( P<0. 05 ), while the rest two groups of comparison were non-respectively(P>0. 05). The preoperative visual function was in contrast to the postoperative (P<0. 05). The lOP before surgery was not statistically significant difference(P>0. 05). However, the difference among three groups being statistically in the postoperative vision(P<0. 05), in addition, the difference existed in each group through pairwise comparison ( P<0. 05) . The occurence rate of complications after surgery in this survey was 47%, the SO group was 50%, the C3 F8 was 56%, the BSS group was 44%.
? CONCLUSlON: Vitrectomy is a safe and effective treatment that can help patients who have diabetic vitreous hemorrhage obtain better visual improvement. Because of the physicochemical properties and different conditions, there still has complications after surgery.

Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging Technology 2009;25(7):1127-1130
Objective To observe whether repetition time (TR) and field strengths have effects on diffusion indices of brain white matter. Methods Seven rhesuses underwent diffusion tensor MR imaging (DT-MRI) with a series of TRs (from 500 to 6000 ms) at 1.5T and 3.0T MR scanners, respectively. The mean diffusivity (MD), fractional anisotropy (FA), primary (λ1) and transverse eigenvalues (λ2, 3) were measured in region of interest (ROI) at the posterior limb of internal capsule. Pearson correlation analysis and two-way ANOVA were performed. Results None of the diffusion indices was correlated with TR (P>0.05) when SNR was high enough (SNR>35). FA was significantly higher and the MD and λ2, 3 were significantly lower at 3.0T than those at 1.5T (P<0.001). No significant difference of λ1 was found between the two field strengths (P>0.05). Conclusion Field strength may influence diffusion quantification, but not for TR, which should be considered in multi-center studies.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of nourishing Yin, strengthening Qi and activating blood decoction on Fas/FasL in salivary glands of NOD mice with Sjogren's syndrome and their mRNA expression.
METHODThirty-two NOD mice were randomly divided into the model group, the traditional Chinese medicine group (TCM group, orally given 0.4 mL nourishing Yin, strengthening Qi and activating blood decoction as per 100 g x kg(-1) everyday), the hydroxychloroquine group (given 0.4 mL hydroxychloroquine as per 60 mg x kg(-1) everyday), the traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine group (TCM WM group, given nourishing Yin, Strengthening Qi and activating blood decoction 50 g x kg(-1) and hydroxychloroquine 60 mg x kg(-1), 0.4 mL everyday), with eight mice in each group. Eight Balb/C mice were selected as the normal control group (normal group). All of mice were killed after eight weeks, and their submaxillary glands were dissected. The expression levels of Fas/FasL were examined by immunohistochemical method, and the FasL mRNA was detected by RT-PCR.
RESULTThe expression levels of Fas/FasL in salivary glands of the model group were higher than that of other groups (P < 0.05). The expression level of FasL of the normal group was much lower than that in the hydroxychloroquine group (P < 0.05). The relative expression level of Fas mRNA in salivary glands of the model group was higher than that in other groups, but the control group was notably lower than other groups (P < 0.05). The expression level of FasL mRNA in salivary glands of the model group was higher than that in TCM and TCM WM groups (P < 0.05). But the expression level in TCM WM group was notably lower than the hydroxychloroquine group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe nourishing Yin, strengthening Qi and activating blood decoction could down-regulate the expression level of Fas/FasL in salivary glands of NOD mice with Sjogren's syndrome and their mRNA expression, and had a better efficacy after being combined with hydroxychloroquine. The nourishing Yin, strengthening Qi and activating blood decoction might treat the Sjogren's Syndrome by reducing apoptosis which is regulated by Fas/FasL

The spores suspension of Streptomyces roseosporus D-38 irritated with 20mW He-Ne laser for 20 min were incubated on G1 medium plates containing 1. 9?g/mL of streptomycin. Ten percent of mutants increased the potency of daptomycin by streptomycin-resistance method, including the mutant LC-54, which could produce daptomycin 81. 2 mg/L, which was 39% higher than that of the beginning strain by flask fermentation.

Objective To evaluate the functional changes in the isometric, concentric and eccentric muscle strength of the knee extensors and flexors in patients with knee osteoarthritis, and to explore the relationship among these contractions. Methods A Biodex System-3 isokinetic test system was used to assess the isometric, concentric and eccentric strength of the knee extensors and flexors of the involved and uninvolved limbs of 54 patients suffering from osteoarthritis. Results The strength of the knee extensors and flexors of the involved limbs was significantly less than that of the uninvolved legs in the different contraction modes(P<0.05).The difference was especially marked in concentric and eccentric contraction at low angular velocity. The hamstrings/quadriceps ratio and the dy- namic control ratio showed abnormalities in the muscle balance of the hamstrings and quadriceps. Conclusion Iso- kinetic testing should be applied and the hamstrings/quadriceps ratio and the dynamic control ratio should be analyzed in evaluating patients with knee osteoarthritis.
