As human beings ascend to high altitude, a number of reactions may occur against hypoxic injuries. These hypoxic responses are related to intake, transportation and utility of the oxygen. As a crucial subcellular organelle of oxygen utility, mitochondrion is a central link of high altitude acclimatization, adaptation and mountain sicknesses. In this review, we discussed the recent advances in researches on hypoxic mitochondrial responses at high altitude.

Objective To summarize the diagnostic efficacy of ADC value for differentiation of benign and malignant lymph nodes on diffusion MRI with Meta-analysis. Methods Published papers on differentiation of benign and malignant lymph nodes with ADC value were searched and reviewed.Quality evaluation was performed for the eligible papers before data extraction.Test for heterogeneity was performed first, then appropriate model was selected to calculate the weighted mean difference, sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio, pretest and posttest probability. The potential of ADC value for differentiation of benign and malignant lymph nodes was assessed qualitatively and quantitatively. Results Fifteen papers including 735 cases and 1963 lymph nodes were selected.According to Meta-regression analysis, subgroup analysis and robust analysis, two studies with benign lymph nodes in patients with benign lesion and one study using chemical shift saturation technique were excluded because of their impact on the robustness of the pooled results. The weighted mean difference (WMD) between malignant and benign lymph nodes was -0.355 × 10-3mm2/s[95% confidence interval (CI):-0.423 ×10-3- -0.288 × 10-3 mm2/s].Although the cutoff of ADC value for differentiation in each study was different, the diagnostic efficacy was stable, the pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagnostic odds ratio and area under summarized receiver operator's curve were 0.87 (95% CI:0.79-0.92),0.87 (95% CI:0.82-0.90),6.5 (95% CI:4.7-9.2),0.15 (95% CI:0.09-0.25 ),43 ( 95% CI:21-87 ),0.93 ( 95 % CI:0.90-0.95 ).The posttest malignancy probability of benign lymph node indicated by ADC was 6%,while that of malignant lymph node was 72%.Conclusion The ADC value can be used to differentiate benign and malignant lymph nodes with good sensitivity and specificity noninvasively.

Aim The pharmacodynamics and mechanism of Kadsura heteroclita on the Alzheimers disease (AD) model mice were studied. Methods The Kunming mice were treated with D-galactose and AlCl 3(90 d)to make the AD animal model. The therapy groups were treated with HS 2 (po, 40 d) respectively since d51. The Morris water-maze test, the expressions of PS1, BACE, as well as the pathological observation of the hippocampus and cerebral cortex were carried out to evaluate the effect of HS 2 on the AD model mice. Resluts By oral administration with HS 2, the capacity of learning and memory of the AD model mice was improved. HS 2 can downregulate the expression of PS1, BACE and decrease the amount of senile plaque in their brains. Conclusion HS 2 can meliorate AD model mice's learning and memory deficiency as well as decrease the mRNA content of PS1, BACE and senile plaque in their brains.

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic results of percutaneous transhepatic stent angioplasty for portal vein stenosis following liver transplant. Methods From 2005 to 2007,7 patients developed portal vein stenosis following liver transplant.Percutaneous transhepatic stent angioplasty of the portal vein was performed in all patients. The therapeutic results were monitored by clinical follow-up and imaging examination. Results In seven patients, the percutaneous transhepatic stents were placed successfully. The follow up period ranged from 3 months to 34 months.Portal venous patency Was maintained in six patients(one patient died due to hepatic arterial thrombosis and ischemic insult to bile duct at three months following the stent placement). No complications due to stent angioplasty occurred. Conclusion Percutaneous transhepatic stent angioplasty is an effective and safe method for treatment of portal vein stenosis following liver transplant.

OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effects of momordica charantia polysaccharides(MCP)on depressive animal model induced by chronic social defeat stress(CSDS)and explore the underlying mechanisms.METHODS We established CSDS depressant mouse model and treated CSDS mice with MCP.Sucrose preference, forced swim test(FST)and social interaction test(SIT)were used to measure behaviors changes. We used ELISA,Q-PCR and western blot to test the levels of cytokines in the hippocampus. RESULTS The results showed that chronic administration of MCP(100,200 and 400 mg·kg-1)significantly prevented depressive-like behaviors in mice as assessed by social interaction (SIT), tail suspension (TST) and sucrose preference tests (SPT).It was showed that the elevation of proinflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-β)concentra-tions,up-regulation of JNK3,c-Jun,and P-110β protein expressions in the hippocampus of CSDS model. Moreover, reduction activity of PI3K and phosphorylation level of protein kinase B(AKT)was also observed in the hippocampus of CSDS model. All above phenomenon were reversed after MCP intervened.Further-more,the protective effects of MCP on the CSDS mice were partly inhibited by the specific phosphati-dylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)inhibitor, LY294002. CONCLUSION The protective effects of MCP against depressive-like effects in CSDS mice might reduce neuroinflammatory and involve in attenuation of JNK3/PI3K/AKT pathway in the hippocampus.

A fusion protein of glucagons-like peptide-1 and human serum albumin (GLP-1/HSA) was expressed and secreted into the fermentation broth with recombinant Pichia pastoris. The productivity of expressed GLP-1/HSA could reach 63.6mg/L in 10L fermentor. After concentrated with hollow-fiber ultrafiltration membrane, GLP-1/HSA was purified from fermentation broth by hydrophobic chromatography, negative ion exchange chromatography and gel filtration chromatography in turn. The HPLC analysis showed that the purified GLP-1/HSA had an overall purity of 95.8%. Furthermore, the analysis of in vivo activity indicated that GLP-1/HSA had the bioactivity of native GLP-1, and could significantly reduce blood glucose level 4h after intraperitoneal administration. It was concluded that a great deal of GLP-1/HSA with higher purity could be harvested by Pichia pastoris expression system and the established purification methods. Preliminary studies show a new potential for developing the long-acting GLP-1 analogs for clinical applications.

Lu Dangshen, a traditional authentic medicinal material of Codonopsis Radix is mainly produced in Shangdang (Changzhi) area of Shanxi Province. Baitiao Dangshen is mainly produced in Gansu Province. Codonopsis Radix contains many kinds of components such as phenylpropanoids, polyalkynes, alkaloids, terpenes, fatty acids, flavonoids, and so on. At present, the effect of producing areas on its chemical compositions has not been systematically studied. This study analyzed the differences of metabolites among
