Quorum sensing is defined as the cell density-dependent regulation of gene expression, and the involved system is the quorum sensing system, in which N-acyl homoserine lactone is known as the signal molecules of most gram-negative organisms. It can regulate diverse physiological functions. This paper reviewed the quorum sensing systems and the recent advances which play a major role in the formation of the symbiosis between the rhizobia and their host plants.

Objective To investigate changes of serum cystatin C(Cys C),uric acid,HsCRP, IL-6,TNF-?,and lipids in patients with primary and secondary type Ⅱ b hyperhpidemia. Methods Seventy- five patients with primary and secondary type Ⅱb hyperlipidemia and 75 healthy controls were included in this study.Serum levels of TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,apoAI,apoB,Lp(a),Cys C,UA,HsCRP were measured by immunoturbidimetric assay on AU-640,and IL-6,TNF-? were detected. Results Patients showed higher serum TC,TG,LDL-C,apoB,UA,Cys C and HsCRP than the controls. The levels in patients were(3.70? 0.66)mmol/L,(9.50?0.92)mmol/L,(4.50?0.31)mmol/L,(1.70?0.21)g/L,(1.21?0.17) mg/L,(441.4?114.7)?mol/L,(11.5?3.2)mg/L respectively, while levels in controls were(1.88? 0.66)mmol/L,(4.00?0.66)mmol/L,(2.80?0.33)mmol/L,(0.74?0.23)g/L,(0.71?0.18) mg/L,(343.0?113.9)?mol/L,(1.8?0.7)g/L respectively.Serum Cys C was positively correlated with HsCRP and UA(P

Background and purpose: Neck lymph node metastasis, most of which presents in central neck compartment, is common in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between the number of dissected central neck lymph nodes and clinical outcome after radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation in pN1a PTC with no more than 5 lymph nodes involvement. Methods: A total of 167 PTC patients who had 1-5 proven metastatic lymph nodes according to postoperative pathological diagnosis were retrospectively analyzed, all of whom underwent total or near total thyroidectomy and central lymph node dissection. After a median follow-up period of 26 months, the clinical outcome of each patient was evaluated as excellent response (ER), indeterminate response (IDR), bio-chemical incomplete response (BIR), or structural incomplete response (SIR) according to the new American Thyroid As-sociation guidelines. The accumulative ER rate (ERn) was calculated in patients with different numbers of dissected lymph nodes (ERn was defined as the proportion of patients who achieved ER with the dissected lymph node number of ≤n). The relationship between the number of dissected central neck lymph nodes and ERn were investigated. Results: As the increase in the number of dissected central neck lymph nodes, there was also an overall increase in ERn, especially when n rose from 1 to 10. The values of ER1, ER5, ER10 and ER30 were 25.0%, 66.7%, 74.7% and 79.1%, respectively. Besides, the proportion of patients who achieved ER was higher in those with 10 or more dissected lymph nodes than in those with less than 10 (85.7% vs 73.3%, P=0.05). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, both the dissected central lymph node number of ≥10 (OR=2.720, 95%CI: 1.052-7.033, P=0.039) and the level of preablation stimulated thyroglobulin (OR=0.955, 95%CI: 0.926-0.984, P=0.003) were shown to contribute independently to ER. Conclusion: As the increas-ing number of dissected central neck lymph nodes, the percentage of pN1a PTC patients that achieved ER after RAI ablation generally rises. In pN1a PTC patients with no more than 5 lymph nodes involvement, a central compartment dissection with 10 or more lymph nodes might help them achieve ER after RAI ablation.

Objective To compare the prevalence of patent foramen ovale (PFO) in young and middle-aged patients with cryptogenic ischemic stroke (CS) and in normal population. Methods The casecontrol study included consecutive 318 young and middle-aged patients with CS and 336 normal control subjects with matched age and sex for group comparisons.Stroke risk factors including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, carotid atherosclerosis plagues and smoking, etc.were studied.Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) were performed to detect the presence of PFO.The prevalence of PFO and difference of risk factor levels between the groups was compared. Then the odds ratios (OR) of a PFO was estimated in CS patients versus control subjects. Results The prevalence of PFO was significant higher in patients with CS than in control subjects (145/318,45.6 % versus 46/336,13.7%,P <0.001).The odds ratio(OR) for PFO in CS for patients versus control subjects was 5.3 (confidence interval,3.6 to 7.8).The mean size of PFO was larger in stroke group than that in control group (P < 0.001).There were no significant differences in levels of other stroke risk factors between two groups. Conclusions PFO may play an important role in etiology of CS in young and middleaged adults.Larger and longer PFOs may be more concomitant with ischemic attacks.More efforts should be employed in patients with CS to detect PFO for further treatment.

Notopterygium incisum is the important medicinal materials of the Tibetan-Qiang medical system in China, also one of the rare and endangered medicinal materials in the Plateau areas in the meantime. Taking the planting of in Sichuan province as an example, research on the N. incisum in Sichuan utilize remote sensing and GIS techniques, bind growth environment factor, including height factor, average annual precipitation, average annual temperature, forest information, were chosen according to habitat conditions. And combine field measurement to verify. The results indicate that N. incisum resources in Sichuan province were mainly distributed in the alpine valley and the northwest of the plateau, which suitability distribution areas of 4145 km2 approximately and accounting for 2% of the total area. Suitability areas accounting for more than 2% of the respective total area in Heishui county, Lixian county, Xiaojin county, Kangding county, ect. According to the field investigation and the related document information record, drawn that the suitability distribution based on RS and GIS were corresponded with the actual distribution areas of N. incisum resources. It's feasible to divide the suitability distribution area of N. incisum using RS and GIS, which will provide a scientific basis for a comprehensive investigation of the distribution as well as its rational exploitation and protection.

National Journal of Andrology 2015;21(10):908-912
OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical application value of Provider-Initiated HIV Testing and Counseling (PITC) by analyzing the positive rate of HIV tests for people in need of PITC and that of routine HIV tests.
METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the demographic and epidemiologic data about the patients seeking PITC services or undergoing routine HIV tests in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital between January and December 2013.
RESULTSThe positive rate of initial HIV screening was 1.98% in the PITC group and 0.24% in the routine test group, while that of confirmed HIV was 0. 40% in the former and 0.07% in the latter, both with statistically significant differences between the two groups (P < 0.01). The positive rate of HIV was markedly higher in males than in females, particularly in the PITC group.
CONCLUSIONPITC has a high clinical value in HIV detection for targeted subjects and therefore deserves general application in dermatology.
