Objective To observe the protection effects of sodium ?-aescinate(SA) on the nervous function in the rats with early spinal cord injury(SCI). Methods One hundred and twenty SD rats were randomly divided into four groups(n=30).Rats in the blank control group were performed laminectomy only, while those in the other three groups were injured at the level of Tl1 spinal segment by Allen's weight drop method(10 g ?10 cm) and immediately intraperitoneally given normal saline(5.0 mg/kg)(control group), SA(5.0 mg/kg)(SA group) and methylprednisolone(100 mg/kg)(MP group) once daily, respectively. After 8 h,24 h,96 h,7 d and 14 d,spinal cord function change of posterior limb were determined with Rivlin method. The rats were sacrificed and the injured segments were resected for pathological analysis. Results As time prolonged, the rehabilitation of spinal cord function with various degree could be observed in each group.Function rehabilitation was found among the rats in the control group,SA group and MP group 96 h after injury, and more rehabilitation was gained later in the latter two groups, while that was not the case in the control group.Rats in the SA and MP group gained more significant rehabilitation than those in the control group(P0.05).It was revealed by pathological analysis that no necrotic neurons was found in the blank control group, and the necrotic neurons in the SA group and MP group were significantly less than the control group at the same time points(P

Objective To develop an effective way to evaluate the accurate platelet count in a patient with anticoagulants-induced pseudothrombocytopenia (PTCP).Methods It was studied that various anticoagulants effect on the platelets count for an infrequent patient with anticoagulants-dependent PTCP. When vitamin B6,aminophylline,gentamicin and amikacin were separately added to four anticoagulated blood samples from anticoagulants-dependent patient within 15 min after blood withdrawal, platelets count and morphological changes of blood cells after 4 hours of incubation at room temperature were investigated. The best anti-aggregating agent and its optimal concentration among them were explored. Results The four anticoagulants all could not inhibit the aggregation of the patient's platelets.Only amikaein among the above anti-aggregating agents can prevent and dissociate the aggregation of platelets without apparent morphological changes of blood cells and the platelet counts was stable within 4 hours after blood drawn when amikacin was added either before or after blood sampling. With increasing the concentration of amikaein, the platelet counts increase and then tend to be stable. The optimal concentration of amikacin is 5 mg/ml blood. Conclusions The supplementation of amikaein either before or after blood sampling is a useful method for the diagnosis anticoagulants-dependent PTCP and for the eva/uation of platelet counts in infrequent patients with anticoagulants-dependent PTCP.

Objective To investigate the genotype of metallo-?-lactamases (MBL) produced by carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in pediatric patients. Methods 59 strains of resistance to imipenem or meropenem were collected from December 2003 to November 2005 in Beijing children's hospital.Isolates were further evaluated for MBL production by two screening methods.MBL Etest strips were used to screen the phenotype of MBL production.Molecular screening for blaVIM,blaIMP,blaSPM and blaGIM was carried out using primers targeting the conserved regions of the MBL genes. The PCR fragments obtained with integron primers were sequenced on both strands. The nucleotide sequences were compared with sequences available over the Internet. Results Of the 59 carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa included in this study,29 (49.2%)were MBL positive using Etest methods, and 39 (66.1%) of these tested positive for MBL genes by PCR.35 (89.7%) were positive for blaIMP genes and 4 (10.3%) were positive for blaVIM genes. All isolates were negative for SPM and GIM DNA sequencing revealed that the IMP-1 was detected in 35 IMP-producing isolates, and VIM-2 was detected in 4 VIM-producing isolates. Conclusions This study has demonstrated that MBL-producing strains in pediatric are more common than in adult.IMP-1-producing strains are the main in pediatric, and VIM-2-producing strains concurred. The production of MBL is one of the important reasons of carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in pediatric. It is very important to monitor the production of MBL.

Objective: To observe the effects of acupoint thread-embedding therapy and low-carbohydrate diet therapy on obese patients with food addiction. Methods: Sixty-five eligible patients were randomized into a thread-embedding group of 33 cases and a diet group of 32 cases to respectively receive 12-week treatment. Before treatment, after treatment and at 6-month follow-up, the two groups were observed and compared in terms of body mass (BM), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body mass index (BMI), body fat rate (BFR), basal metabolic rate (BMR) and Yale food addiction scale version 2.0 (YFAS 2.0). Results: At the end of treatment, there were no significant differences in the general efficacy, and the improvements in BM, BMI, WC, HC, WHR and BFR between the thread-embedding group and diet group (all P>0.05). At follow-up, the thread-embedding group showed more significant improvements in all the aforementioned indicators compared with the diet group except HC (all P<0.05). At the end of treatment and follow-up, BMR and YFSA 2.0 had more significant improvements in the thread-embedding group than in the diet group (all P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupoint thread-embedding therapy can produce significant efficacy in treating obese patients with food addiction; it can improve the food addiction state and work better in maintaining the efficacy compared with low-carbohydrate diet therapy.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2002;10(3):257-260
The current study analyzed the data of 4 000 umbilical cord blood (UCB) units collected in Shandong Cord Blood Bank from the end of 1999 to March 2001. The averages of nucleated cells and CD34(+) cells were more than 1.2 x 10(9) and 3.9 x 10(6) per UCB unit respectively, and more than 1.5 x 10(9) nucleated cells per UCB unit were obtained in 768 UCB units. These UCB units are suitable for transplantation in patients with a body weight greater than 40 kg. The analysis of HLA gene frequency showed that A2, A24, A11, B13, B51, DR15, DR7 and DR9 are the common halotypes in Shandong population and similar to those in the other areas of China. 40% patients could search out at least 1 UCB unit with 1 mismatched HLA locus in Shandong Cord Blood Bank.
