4.Effect of chemokine interleukin-8, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 on the angiogenesis of non-small cell lung cancer.
Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2007;32(4):665-670
OBJECTIVE:
To detect the expressions of chemokines interleukin-8 (IL-8), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 (MIP-1) mRNA in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues, to analyze their relationship with microvessel counts (MVC), and their significance in clinic pathologic features of NSCLC.
METHODS:
In situ hybridization was used to measure the expressions of chemokine IL-8, MCP-1, and MIP-1 mRNA in 40 NSCLC tissues and 10 normal pulmonary tissues, and immunohistochemical staining was carried out to measure the MVC in the above tissues.
RESULTS:
The positive ratios of IL-8, MCP-1, and MIP-1 mRNA in the 40 NSCLC tissues were apparently higher than those in the 10 normal contrast tissues and the difference was statistically significant. The numbers varied accordingly with the different clinic pathologic features of NSCLC, showing that Group T(3) > Group T(2) or Group T(1), Group III stage> Group II stage> Group I stage Group lymph node and remote transferred > Group non-transferred, and Group of survival time no more than 3 years > Group of survival time more than 3 years. The positive expressions among IL-8, MCP-1,and MIP-1 mRNA and between these and the MVC all had mutually positive correlation.
CONCLUSION
Chemokine IL-8, MIP-1, and MIP-1 in NSCLC tissues might cooperate with one another to promote the tumor angiogenesis and affect the progression, metastasis and prognosis of the tumor.

5.Relation of tumor associated macrophages and mast cells of tumor interstitial and angiogenesis in non-small cell lung cancer.
Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2007;32(6):1037-1041
OBJECTIVE:
To detect tumor microvessel count (MVC), tumor associated macrophage (TAM) and Mast cell (MC) counts, and to explore their correlation and the clinical significance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODS:
Immunohistochemical staining (ABC method) was used to measure MVC and TAM and MC counts in 40 cases of NSCLC tissues and 10 cases of normal pulmonary tissues as contrast.
RESULTS:
The counts of microvessel, TAMs, and MCs in the NSCLC tissues were apparently higher than those of the normal tissues, and these counts increased with the development of T stage and clinical stage, metastasis of the tumor, and the reduction of the patient survival time. The positive correlation was showed among the counts of microvessel, TAMs, and MCs.
CONCLUSION
Tumor interstitial infiltrating inflammatory cells, TAMs and MCs can cooperatively promote the tumor angiogenesis, which associates with the development, invasion, metastasis and prognosis of NSCLC.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2007;27(6):884-886
OBJECTIVETo establish a HPLC-based method for simultaneous determination of 2 classes of compounds (flavonoids and chromones) and 6 their effective components,(including prin-O-glucosylcimifugin, cimifugin, 4'-O-beta-D-glucosyl- 5-O-methylvisamminol, quercetin, sec-o-glucosylhamaudol and formononetin), in Yupingfeng Decoction.
METHODSHPLC-based separation of the agents was performed on Agilent Extend-C(18) column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) at 25 degrees with the mobile phase of MeOH-1% acetic acid water solution (gradient elution), flow rate of 0.8 ml/min and detection wavelength of 254 nm.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONHPLC allowed simultaneous quantitative determination of the 6 components in Yupingfeng Decoction, and they showed good linear relationships when their sample amount ranged 90-1810 ng, 97-1940 ng, 190-1906 ng, 105-3144 ng, 88-2625 ng and 109-3279 ng, respectively, with correlation coefficients all beyond 0.9999 and average recovery rates of 98.2%, 99.1%, 97.3%, 97.8%, 98.8% and 99.2%, respectively. This simple and convenient method accommodated a broad linear range with high sensitivity and precise and reproducible results.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the infection rate and subtypes of human papilloma virus(HPV) in patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and analyze the clinicopathologic features of patients with or without HPV infection.
METHODSA total of 66 biopsy or surgical specimens of OSCC archived in the Pathology Department of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the generic amplification products were detected by DNA enzyme immunoassay (DEIA) and typed by reverse hybridization line probe assay.
RESULTSHPV-DNA was detected in 11 (16.7%) of all specimens. Among them, 7 were infected with HPV-16,and the remaining 4 patients were infected with HPV-16/11, HPV-35, HPV-58/52, and HPV-33/52/54, respectively. HPV-16 was detected in 72.7% of all positive specimens. There were more females in HPV-positive group than HPV-negative group (36.4% vs. 1.8%,P=0.002). Patients with HPV-positive tumors were more likely to be non-smokers (36.4% vs. 0,p=0.001) and non-drinkers (45.5% vs. 1.8%,p=0.001) than those with HPV-negative tumors. The proportion of moderately or poorly differentiated tumors was higher in HPV-positive patients than HPV-negative patients (81.8% vs. 63.7%), although without statistical significance (p=0.409). No difference was observed in T classification, N classification, and overall tumor stage.
CONCLUSIONSHPV infection rate was 16.7% in this cohort. HPV-positive OSCC has its unique etiologic and clinicopathological characteristics.

OBJECTIVETo retrospectively analyze 95 cases of traumatic carotid cavernous fistula treated by endovascular embolization.
METHODSFrom January 1994 to December 2008, 95 patients with traumatic carotid cavernous fistula were treated in our hospital. All patients received selective cerebral angiography through femoral artery catheterization. Accordingly, 89 cases were treated by detachable balloon embolization, 5 by platinum microcoils and 1 by covered-stent, respectively.
RESULTSIn the study, 61 cases achieved successful balloon embolization at the first time. Fifty-six cases had multiple balloons due to the big fistula. Nine cases received balloon embolization twice. But among the 5 patients treated with platinum microcoils, one developed slight brainstem ischemia. After operation the patient had hemiparesis and swallow difficulty, but gradually recovered 3 months later. No neurological deficits were observed in other cases. All the cases recovered. Eighty-five cases were followed up for 1-15 years and no recurrence was found.
CONCLUSIONSThe endovascular embolization for traumatic carotid cavernous fistula is minimally invasive, safe, effective and reliable. The detachable balloon embolization is the first choice in the treatment of TCCF.

Chinese Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics 2014;16(10):1029-1032
OBJECTIVETo investigate the correlation between four serum fibrosis markers and liver function in patients with infantile hepatitis syndrome (IHS), and to explore the clinical significance of these markers in the diagnosis of IHS and the assessment of disease severity.
METHODSA retrospective study was performed on 60 patients with IHS who were divided into hepatic fibrosis and normal groups based on ultrasound diagnosis. Levels of four liver fibrosis markers, i.e., hyaluronic acid (HA), type III procollagen (PC-III), type IV collagen (IV.C), and laminin (LN), were compared between the two groups, and the correlation between these markers and liver function was analyzed.
RESULTSLevels of liver function markers (alanine aminotransferase (ALT), glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), total bilirubin (TBil), direct bilirubin (DBil), indirect bilirubin (IBil), and total bile acid (TBA)) in the hepatic fibrosis group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (P<0.05). Levels of HA and IV.C in the hepatic fibrosis group were significantly higher compared with those in the normal group (P<0.05). Furthermore, HA, IV.C, and PC-III levels were positively correlated with those of ALT, TBil, GGT, DBil, IBil, and TBA (r=0.25-0.49), and the strongest correlation existed between HA/IV.C and ALT/jaundice markers.
CONCLUSIONSAssay measuring serum fibrosis markers (HA, IV.C, and PC-III) in combination with liver function tests and ultrasound examination has an important clinical value in the early diagnosis of IHS and evaluation of disease severity.
