Dermatology is closely related to the health of officers and soldiers both in peace time and war time. Under special circumstances, skin diseases have a direct impact on efficiency and combat effectiveness of the military. Research work on fungal infections and psoriasis in the PLA has been playing a leading role domestically, as well as reaching international advanced standards. In the past 20 years, PLA dermatologists had been granted 32 second awards of Army Science and Technology Advancement Prize. Among them, the results of a series of research on fungal infections accomplished by the Second Military University was granted a second award of the State Science and Technology Advancement Prize. In the past 5 years, the team of dermatology profession has been growing rapidly in the PLA. Up to now, there are 6 departments with 11 tutors who are entitled to train postgraduate students seeking doctorate degree, and about 100 of them have succeeded in thesis defense and conferred the doctoral degree. However, at present, there are still many problems unsolved and further research is necessary. The most important task is, under the guide of bio-physic-social medical modality, various sophisticated technologies should be applied in basic research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment etc. in the field of dermatology, in order to assure the physical and psychological health of the servicemen.

High performance liquid chromatography-time-off-flight mass spectrometer (HPLC-TOFMS) technology coupled with partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) processed by SIMCA-P software was applied to investigate serum endogenous metabolites alternations of valsartan in spontaneous hypertension rats (SHR). And MetPA platform was used to connect identified potential biomarkers in corresponding metabolic pathways to find possible therapeutic mechanism of valsartan. Valsartan significantly declined the blood pressure of SHRs (P < 0.05) at fourth week. The metabolic profiling significantly changed and four metabolites involved in G protein-coupled pathway were identified. Metabolomics is able to detect holistic and microcosmic alternations in organism, so as to elucidate therapeutic mechanism of drugs.

Objective To improve the knowledge,diagnostic level on concealed penis in children,and explore the operative treatment methods of concealed penis.Methods Ten children with concealed penis were reviewed retrospectively in the First Hospital of Jilin University from Jun.2005 to Jul.2007.Patients were 6-12 years old.Penis length was 1.2-2.6 cm.Patients growthing and micturition were normal,the results of androgne and estrogen examination were normal.The etiology was simple obesity in one case,fiber streak of penis sarcolemma in 9 cases.The clinical symptoms and signs,diagnosis and operative method were analyzed.Results The diagnosis of 10 children were correct,and all patients were treated by Devine's operation and 10 cases patients had healed in one stage.There was no vessel,nerve and urethra injury during the operation.The length of penis was 3.0-5.5 cm,average in 3.6 cm after operation.Followed up 3 months to 2 years,10 children's phimosis were removed,the micturition were normal;the appearance of penis was also satisfactory after operation.One patient with under-developed penis had a amelioration after treatment with HCG postoperatively.The penis contour was dissatisfactory in 1 obesity patient,but it was ameliorated gradually while growing up.Conclusions The correct diagnosis and differential diagnosis are very important for operative treatment depend on the different etiology and pathologic changes of concealed penis.Suitable operation can extend the length;moreover,ameliorate the symptom of micturition and the appearance of the penis.

OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical efficacy difference in treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD) between syndrome differentiation based acupuncture and ordinary acupuncture.

METHODSSeventy FD patients were assigned to a syndrome differentiation based acupuncture group (Group A) and an ordinary acupuncture group (Group B) by Excel Software randomization. Zhongwan (RN12 ), Tianshu (ST25), and Zusanli (ST36) were needled as main points for patients in Group A. Meanwhile, different combined acupoints were needled according to syndrome differentiation. Only the same main points were needled for patients in Group B. All patients were needled once per day, 30 min each time, 6 days as one treatment cycle, 2 treatment cycles in total. Fasting serum levels of gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MTL) were determined before treatment and after 2 treatment cycles. 36-item Short-form Heath Survey (SF-36) and Nepean Dyspepsia Index [NDI, including Nepean Dyspepsia Symptom Index (NDSI) and Nepean Dyspepsia Life Quality Index (NDLQI)] were assessed before treatment, after 2 treatment cycles, and one month after treatment.

RESULTSCompared with before treatment in the same group, serum levels of GAS and MLT increased in the two groups after 2 treatment cycles (P <0. 05), but changes were more obvious in Group A (P <0. 05). Compared with before treatment in the same group, SF-36 and NDLQI score increased, and NDSI score decreased in the two groups after 2 treatment cycles and 1 month after treatment (all P <0. 05). Compared with Group B, SF-36 and NDLQI score increased in Group A after 2 treatment cycles and 1 month after treatment (P <0. 05, P <0. 01). But NDSI score at 1 month after treatment was lower in Group A than in Group B (P <0.01).

CONCLUSIONSyndrome differentiation based acupuncture could evidently improve dyspeptic symptoms of FD patients, and significantly improve their quality of life with remarkable curative effect.

Objective To summarize the progress in dermatological researches in the past 5 years achieved domestically and abroad,and venture to propose the developmental orientation and problems to be emphasized in dermatology in the next 5 years. Methods The achievements and progresses gained in dermatology in the recent 5 years were retrieved by employing the well-know informatics technology. Results Remarkable achievements have been gained in dermatological researches during recent 5 years,especially those concerning psoriasis,connective tissue diseases,vitiligo and dermatomycosis. Two professional journals in dermatology were founded by military medical service in recent 5 years. Several awards for the achievements in dermatology were rewarded,such as,one each,the first-and second-class Army Science and Technology Progress Award,second-class Army Medial Achievements Award,second-class Chinese Science and Technology Award in medicine,provincial level second-class Science and Technology Progress Award,etc. Apart from those awards,researches on investigation and prevention of skin diseases during military training had made important breakthrough. Conclusions In the next 5 years,the points of focus in dermatological research should still be put on serving the basic army units,raising the level of prevention and treatment of skin diseases in the course of training,ensuring the psychological health of soldiers,supporting the important research items and promoting further the development of dermatology.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the anti-tumor effect of recombinant toxin EGF-TCS against transplanted human hepatocellular carcinoma in nude mice.

METHODSHuman hepatocellular carcinoma BEL-7,402 cells were inoculated subcutaneously in the right axillary region of nude mice, and 6 days later, EGF-TCS was injected intravenously at 100, 50, and 25 microg/kg. The mice were executed on the next day of drug withdrawal and the tumors were weighed and the tumor inhibition rate calculated. Immunohistochemistry was also performed on the tumor tissues to provide clue for the possible pathways of tumor inhibition.

RESULTSEGF-TCS markedly inhibited the tumor growth in nude mice, with a tumor inhibition rate of 71.3%, 60.87% and 45.22% corresponding to EGF-TCS dosage of 100, 50, and 25 microg/kg, respectively. Variance analysis suggested that EGF-Linker-TCS could significantly inhibit the tumor growth in the mice (F=8.712, P=0.006), and immunohistochemistry showed significantly inhibited angiogenesis in the tumors by EGF-TCS. No blood vessels were found in the tumor tissues in high dosage group, and there were also reduced blood vessels in the other two smaller dose groups in comparison with the untreated model group, indicating that EGF-TCS inhibited tumor growth and migration by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.

CONCLUSIONEGF-TCS can inhibit the growth of solid tumors in nude mice, suggesting the potential value of this preparation in cancer therapy.

Objective To further investigated the effect of minocycline on the inhibition of microglial activation and subsequent protection of nigral DA neuron.Methods 20 rats injected with LPS in the substantia nigra (SN) were randomly divided into two groups (LPS group and LPS+Minocycline group).The behavior was observed on the 7~(th) d and 14~(th) d.The immunohistoehemistry,in situ hybridization and Western-blot were used to detect the levels of positive neuron,mRNA,protein of TH and OX-42.
