OBJECTIVETo evaluate the impacts on the short-term efficacy and the long-term prevention of recurrence of allergic rhinitis treated with the triple-strong stimulation at Dazhui (GV 14) so as to provide the convenient and long-term effective therapy of acupuncture and moxibustion for allergic rhinitis.

METHODSOne hundred and twenty cases of allergic rhinitis were randomized into an acupuncture group, an acupuncture + medication group and a triple-strong stimulation group, 40 cases in each one. In the acupuncture group, acupuncture was applied at Dazhui (GV 14), Fengchi (GB 20), Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 29) and the others, stimulating with reinforcing manipulation for the deficiency and reducing manipulation for the excess, once every day. In the acupuncture + medication group, on the basis of acupuncture therapy, claritin (loratadine tablets) was supplemented for oral administration, 10 mg, once every two days, continuously for 30 days. In the triple-strong stimulation group, on the basis of acupuncture therapy, the strong needling, strong cupping and strong moxibustion were applied at Dazhui (GV 14). This combined therapy was given once every day in the first 3 days and once every two days afterwards. The 10 day treatment made one session, at the interval of 3 days between the sessions and totally 3 sessions were required in the three groups. Separately, before treatment, after treatment and in 6 months after treatment, the changes of symptom and physical sign score and value of single item symptom including nasal itching, nasal blockage, sneezing and rhinorrhea were observed in the patients of the three groups. And the long-term clinical efficacy was compared among the three groups.

RESULTSThe symptom and physical sign score and the value of single item symptom were all reduced in the three groups after treatment and in 6 months after treatment (P < 0.001, P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The results in the triple-strong stimulation group were superior to the other two groups (all P < 0.05). In the triple-strong stimulation group, the total effective rate was 92.5% (36/40) in the follow-up of 6 months after treatment, which was better than 60.5% (23/38) in the acupuncture group and 69.2% (27/39) in the acupuncture + medication group (both P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe combined therapy of acupuncture and the triple-strong stimulation at Dazhui (GV 14) achieves the reliable and effective result in the clinical treatment of allergic rhinitis and displays the good role on the prevention from long-term recurrence.

BACKGROUND: It has confirmed that angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor benazepril can delay fibrosis of varied organs. However, whether benazepril has inhabited effect on peritoneal fibrosis in the process of peritoneal dialysis is poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: It is assumed that benazepril could inhabit peritoneal fibrosis of peritoneum with peritoneal dialysis, in addition, to compare the effect to other mehods. METHODS: All rats were randomly and evenly divided into 4 groups. There was no intervention in the control group; saline solution, and 20 mL 42.5 g/L Dianeal solution, was injected into rats in the saline solution and peritoneal dialysis groups; in the combination group, 20 mL 42.5 g/L Dianeal solution was injected combined with oral taken benazepril 20 mg/(kg·d). The intraperitoneal injection performed once a day, for 4 successive weeks. The ultrafiltration function was performed 4 weeks later. Meantime, Paraffin sections were cut and stained by Van Gieson to measure peritoneal thickness. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Two rats in the peritoneal dialysis group and 1 rat in the combination group were dead. The remained 37 rats were included in the final analysis. Compared to the control and saline solution groups, the ultrafiltration volume of the peritoneal dialysis and combination groups were obviously decreased (P_(all)< 0.05), especially notably decreased in the combination group (P< 0.05). Compared to the control group end saline solution groups, the peritoneal thickness was significantly elevated in the combination group, but not as much as in the peritoneal dialysis group (P < 0.05). In the long-term peritoneal dialysis rats, administration of benazepril can effectively protect the ultrofiltration function of peritoneum and delay the progression of peritoneal fibrosis.

Objective To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of early enteral nutrition (EEN) in elder patients undergoing gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma. Methods An outcome-based retrospective review of 52 patients who had undergone gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma between July 1999 and June 2002 was performed .There were 27 patients in the EEN group, and 25 in the TPN group. Objective To observe the effects of early rehabilitation training on endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs),stromal cell-derived factor alpha 1 (SDF-lα) and motor function recovery in hemiplegic patients with acute cerebral infarction.Methods Fifty hemiplegic patients after a first acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into a control group (n =25) and an experimental group (n =25).Both groups of patients were given routine drug therapy,while the experimental group also received early rehabilitation (within 48 hours of onset).EPCs and SDF-1α levels in peripheral blood were measured before and after one week of treatment,and Fugl-Meyer assessments and modified Barthel index scoring were conducted at admission and after three months of treatment.Results There was no difference between the 2 groups before the treatment.After a week of treatment,however,the EPC and SDF-1α values of both groups had increased,with those of the experimental group increasing significantly more than in the control group.Spearman rank correlation analysis showed that the increase in EPCs was positively correlated with the SDF-1α increment in the first week.After 3 months of treatment,the average FMA and MBI results of the experimental group were significantly better than those of the control group.Conclusion Early rehabilitation training can help to further improve the recovery of motor function for hemiplegic patients after acute cerebral infarction.This may be related to its effect in upregulating the expression of SDF-1α,thus contributing to the mobilization of EPCs in the bone marrow.

OBJECTIVETo explore rest, cold compress and elevate (RICE) with rest, compress and elevate (RCE) without cold for the treatment of acute ankle sprain, in order to clear mid-term clinical effects.

METHODSEighty-nine patients with acute ankle sprains were collected from January 2013 to March 2014,including 30 males and 59 females aged from 18 to 60 years old with an average of 36 years old; the time from injury to hospital ranged from 3 to 24 h with an average of 9 h. All patients were divided into two groups according to visiting sequence. There were 45 patients in RICE group, and 45 patients in RCE groups. The main therapeutic effect index was evaluated by Karlsson scoring, and secondary therapeutic effect index was pain and satisfactory VAS scores. Safety index evaluated by adverse event.

RESULTSOn the 2nd weeks after injury, Karlsson score in RICE group was 44.66 ± 11.58, and 46.67 ± 8.52 in RCE group, while there was no statistical significance between two groups in Karlsson scores (P > 0.05). Karlsson score of two groups after treatment were higher than before treatment. There was no significantly meaning in pain and satisfactory VAS scores between two groups (P > 0.05). No adverse reaction were occurred between two groups.

CONCLUSIONCold compress did not receive much more final gains, and no evidence showed cold compress could affect recovery of joint function.

Objective To elucidate the association of the susceptibility for rheumatoid arthritis ( RA )and peptidylarginine deiminase 4(PADI4) genetic single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in Han population in Hebei province.Methods This hospital-based ease-control study included 105 untreated RA patients and 96 healthy controls.The genotypes and allele frequencies of padi4_92 gene polymorphisms were analyzed by PCR-RFLP method,and the analysis of linkage disequilibrium and haplotype construction were performed for padi4_92,padi4_94 and padi4_104 SNPs.The Peason Chi-square test and Woolf statistic method were used to analyze the odds ration (OR) and 95％ confidence interval (95％CI).Results Significant differences in the frequency of PADI4 alleles and genotypes between the cases and controls were observed.The combined effect of padi4_92,padi4_94 and padi4_104 SNPs was analyzed by SHEsis snd Genehunter software,and got three haplotypes,CCC,GTT and GCC.There was significant difference in haplotypes distribution of 3 SNPs of padi4 between the two groups.This analysis of haplotypes revealed that haplotype of PADI4 was a risk factor for RA The ORs for these three haplotypes for RA susceptibility were 0.634 (95％CI=0.425-0.946),1.306 (95％CI=0.864-1.975),4.286 (95％CI=1.274-14.424),respectively.Conclnsion The SNPs of PADI4 may contribute to genetic susceptibility to RA in Han population in Hebei Province.
