Objective To study the effects of extract from Narcissus tazetta var. chinensis on proliferation and apoptosis of human multiple myeloma cell line ARH-77. Methods The survival rate of cells were tested by MTT assay when cells were affected by 1.25, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 ?g/mL of the extract for 3 d. After being induced by 10 ?g/mL of the extract for 3 d, apoptotic cells were observed with fluorescence stain; changes of he csll cycle were analyzed by Flow Cytometry; the number and shape of nucleolar organizer region (NOR) were tested by AgNOR assay and submicroscopic structure were observed by transmission electron microscope. Results The extract from N. tazetta var. chinensis could significantly inhibit the proliferation and reduce the survival rate of ARH-77 cells (P

Objective To strengthen physiatrist's knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of venous thromboembolism by analysing 7 venous thromboembolic events in rehabilitation. Methods 7 cases with venous thromboembolism (VTE) in our department were involved in this study. Related data of these patients were collected, investigated and analyzed. Results 6 cases were deep venous thrombosis (DVT), 1 case was pulmonary embolism (PE). The patients with DVT were treated successfully by thrombolytic and/or anticoagulant therapy as well as later rehabilitation treatment, and the patient with PE was cured after intra-arterial mechanical thrombolysis therapy and later anticoagulant therapy. Conclusion Prevention and treatment of VTE is becoming a very important issue in development in our country. Active prevention, early recognition and treatment are very important for the prognosis of patients with VTE.

Objective To explore the relationship between serum HBeAg、the qualification of HBV DNA and the liver pathologic change in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV)carriers with normal liver function. Methods Two hundred and forty-four chronic hepatitis B virus carriers with normal liver function were performed pathology examination by Liver biopsy.Meanwhile liver function,HBV DNA level and serological serum markers of B-hepatitis examination were detected. Results Pathology results showed that,of all 244 cases,7 cases was cirrhosis(2.9%),143 for slight CHB (58.6%),32 for moderate CHB (13.1%) and 9 for severe CHB (3.6 %).And 53 (21.7%)chronic hepatitis B virus carriers were the normal histology morphology.Fony-eight cases (19.7%) were in inflammation stage G≥2 and 54(22.1%) were with fibrosis stage S≥2.For cases with HBV DNA positive,The inflammation and ftbrosis stages in HBeAg negative group were more severe than that in HBeAg positive group (P < 0.05).The fibrosis stages in patients with low HBV DNA level were severe than that in high HBV DNA levels (P < 0.05).No significant differences were observed in the inflammation stage between subjects with high or low HBV DNA level. Conclusion Most chronic HBV carriers with normal liver function were with different degrees of liver inflammation and fibrosis.HBeAg and HBV DNA associated with liver pathological change.

Objective To study the effects of motor imagery therapy combined with electromyographic (EMG) biofeedback on upper limb function in hemiplegic patients. Methods Sixty hemiplegic stroke patients were recruited and divided into a control group (n=20),an electrical stimulation group (n=20) and a combination group (n=20).All groups received basic medication and routine rehabilitation training once daily for 4 weeks. The electrical stimulation group was also treated with EMG biofeedback, and the combination group with motor imagery therapy plus EMG biofeedback. The Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA),the modified Barthel index (MBI) and EMG parameters were assessed before and after 2 courses of treatment. Results After 8 weeks of treatment all groups had significantly higher FMA scores and MBI scores, and better integrated EMG values, but the effects in the combination group were significantly better than those in the other two groups. Conclusions Motor imagery therapy combined with EMG biofeedback can more effectively promote recovery of upper limb function in hemiplegic stroke patients.

Objective To explore factors related to the development of segmental instabilities in lumbar spine. Methods Fifty-seven patients with lumbar segment instabilities at L 4~5 were selected as illness group, 22 patients with facetectomy at L 4~5 as post-operation control group, and 19 healthy subjects as normal control. X-ray plain films were taken in sagittal, flexion and extension positions. Computed tomographic scans were taken to define the axial morphology of the facet joint. Magnetic resonance scans were taken to describe disc degeneration of 36 patients in illness group. Results The facet joint was oriented sagittally in the forward translation patients in flexion. The disc degeneration was slight in the rotational instability patients. The patients with total facetectomy exited forward translation in flexion. Conclusion A more sagittally oriented facet and disc degeneration are associated with forward translation in flexion and may be the cause of degenerative spondylolisthesis, whereas ligament failure is associated with rotational instability.

Objective To investigate the mutation of type Ⅱ human hair basic keratin (hHb) gene in a family with monilethrix. Methods Scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the structure of hair shafts. With informed consent, blood samples were drawn from affected and unaffected membets in this family,as well as from 50 healthy controls.Genomic DNA was isolated from these samples. The exon 1 and exon 7 of hHb1,hHb3 and hHb6 were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).All the PCR products were sequenced directly using ABI3730 automated sequencer.DNA sequence alignment was carried out with BLAST software. Results A typical beaded appearance was observed in affected hairs by using scanning electron microscopy. There were obvious longitudinal ridges and sulcuses in hair node.and hair cuticles were irregularly shaped. Most cortex and medullary substance were absent in affected hairs of a patient. After sequence alignment,a G1289A point mutation in exon 7 of hHb6 gene, which led to a substitution of arginine for glutamide at codon 430,was detected in affected members of this family, but not in unaffected family members or 50 unrelated human controls. No mutation was observed in exon 1 or exon 7 of hHb1 and hHb3 gene or exon 1 of hHb6 gene. Conclusion The missense mutation of R430Q is a novel mutation.which may be associated with the pathogenesis of monilethrix in this pedigree.
