The objective of this work was to observe the side effects on the peripheral blood treated with 131I in children and adolescents with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC). The levels of white blood cells (WBC), neutrophil, HGB (hemoglobin), RBC (red blood cells) and the PLT (platelet) were measured by automatic hemocyte analyzer in 31 young enrolled patients (< or = 20 years old) before 131I therapy, 1 month and 6 months after 131I therapy, and at the end of follow up. The results of 131I treatment at the before and after the treatment were compared. The level of PLT decreased obviously (P < 0.01), WBC, RBC and HGB decreased (P < 0.05), neutrophil increased slightly (P > 0.05) 1 month after 131I therapy. The level of WBC, neutrophil, RBC, HGB and PLT were near to the level of before treatment after 6 months (P > 0.05) of 131I therapy. At the end of follow up, the components of the peripheral blood in the high dose group (7.4GBq-11.1GBq) were not significantly different from those at the beginning. The results showed that, there was only a transient impact on the peripheral blood by the 131I therapy in the children and adolescents with differentiated thyroid carcinoma.

Objective To compare the biomechanical properties of Gamma3 and InterTan nails in the fixation of femoral intertrochanteric fractures. Methods Twelve synthetic femora of 4th generation were randomized into 4 equal groups ( n=3 ) for assessment of the 2 constructs of fracture fixation ( Gamma3 versus InterTan nails ) . Groups A and B were made into models of stable femoral intertrochanteric fracture (AO/OTA type 31-A1. 1) and groups C and D into unstable ones(AO/OTA type 31-A2. 3) . The biomechanical properties of Gamma3 and InterTan nails in the 4 models were tested and compared. Results For stable fracture models, the fracture gap movement increased with the increasing axial load and the torque increased with the increasing torsion angle. There were significant differences between groups A and B in fracture gap movement and torque ( P <0. 05 ) . There was no significant difference between groups A and B in failure load ( 5, 855. 5 ± 627. 8 N versus 5, 547. 1 ± 365. 4 N ) ( P > 0. 05 ) . For unstable fracture models, there were no significant differences between groups C and D in fracture gap movement when the axial loads were 500 N, 600 N or 700 N ( P > 0. 05 ) , but there was a significant difference between the 2 groups when the axial load was larger than 800 N ( P <0. 05 ) . With the increasing torsion angle, the torque increased in groups C and D. There was a significant difference between the 2 groups in the torque at the same torsion angle ( P <0. 05 ) . There were a significant difference between groups C and D in failure load ( 2, 781. 5 ± 600. 6 N versus 3, 150. 5 ± 633. 8 N ) ( P=0. 007 ) . Conclusions For stable femoral intertrochanteric fractures, InterTan and Gamma3 nails may exhibit similar biomechanical properties. For unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures, InterTan nails may provide obviously better biomechanical stability than Gamma3 nails.

Alzheimer's disease(AD)represents the main form of dementia;however, valid diagnosis and treatment measures are lacking. The discovery of valuable biomarkers through omics technologies can help solve this problem. For this reason, metabolomic analysis using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS)was carried out on plasma, hippocampus, and cortex samples of an AD rat model.Based on the metabolomic data,we report a multi-factor combined biomarker screening strategy to rapidly and accurately identify potential bio-markers.Compared with the usual procedure, our strategy can identify fewer biomarkers with higher diagnostic specificity and sensitivity. In addition to diagnosis, the potential biomarkers identified using our strategy were also beneficial for drug evaluation.Multi-factor combined biomarker screening strategy was used to identify differential metabolites from a rat model of amyloid beta peptide 1-40(Aβ1-40)plus ibotenic acid-induced AD(compared with the controls)for the first time;lysophosphati-dylcholine(LysoPC)and intermediates of sphingolipid metabolism were screened as potential bio-markers.Subsequently,the effects of donepezil and pine nut were successfully reflected by regulating the levels of the abovementioned biomarkers and metabolic profile distribution in partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLS-DA).This novel biomarker screening strategy can be used to analyze other metabolomic data to simultaneously enable disease diagnosis and drug evaluation.

Objective:To assess the effects of recombinant human endostatin (rh-ES) on radiation-induced myocardial fibrosis. Methods:Totally 40 SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, including A group as normal control, B group receiving rh-ES with a dosage of 6 mg·kg -1·d -1, in traperitoneal injection, for 14 consecutive days, C group with local heart irradiation delivered to the precordial region of rats in five fractions with a dose of 25 Gy, D group receiving rh-ES as the same as B group and local heart irradiation as C group. At 1 and 3 months after irradiation, five rats were killed under anesthesia. Mason staining was used to observe myocardial injury and fibrosis. Western blotting was used to detect the expression of TGF-β1, CTGF and COL-I in myocardium. Results:Masson staining showed that no obvious myocardial fibrosis was found in group B at 1 month and 3 months after irradiation, while collagen fibers were distributed in myocardium in groups C and D. One month after irradiation, the result of semi-quantitative analysis showed that the CVF in group A was (5.20 ±0.75)%, which was significantly lower than that in group C (10.12 ±2.17)% ( t=4.74、4.93, P<0.01) and the CVF in group D (10.32 ±1.36), and the CVF of group C was similar to that of group D ( P<0.01). Three months after irradiation, CVF in group C (13.17±2.67)% was still higher than that in group A (5.23 ±1.32)% ( t=4.49, P<0.01), but lower than that in group D (16.92 ±3.58)% ( t=3.19, P<0.05). One month after irradiation, the expression of TGF-β1 in group A was 0.441 ±0.063, lower than that in group C (0.817 ±0.079, t=5.81, P<0.01). Three months after irradiation, the expression of TGF-β1 in group A was 0.501 ±0.110, lower than that in group C (0.832 ±0.150, t=4.19, P<0.01), and the expression of TGF-β1 in group D was 1.403 ±0.133, which was significantly higher than that in group C ( t=7.24, P<0.01). Conclusions:Radiation can cause the formation of myocardial fibrosis, and recombinant human endostatin may aggravate the formation of late radiation fibrosis.
