1.Effects of captopril on free radical production and it's immune function
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 1986;0(02):-
Captopril (CPT, 40, 80mg/kg, ig) enhanced serum superoxide dismutaseactivity, and suppressed luminal-dependent chemiluminescence of peritoneal macrophagesin mice. CPT (160mg/kg, ig) had a suppressive action on lipid peroxidation of mice. Theseresults suggested that CPT had antioxygen free radical effect or anti-lipid peroxidationeffects. CPT at 25 ?g/ml concentration suppressed ConA-induced prolifeation of mousesplenic T lymphocytes in vitro, which suggested that CPT had a suppressive effct on Tlymphocyte function.

Objective To explore the differentiation of human bone marrow measenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) into neuron-like and dopaminergic neuron-like cells in vitro. Methods The hMSCs were isolated from adult human bone marrow and expanded on the flask undifferentiated state for 2 passages. After pretreatment with WHI-P131 for 48 h, the hMSCs were cultured at the medium containing 10 ng/ml basic fibroblast growth factor for 24 h, then incubated with all-trans-retinoic acid and glial-derived neurotrophic factor in serum-free media for 5 h. The surface markers of differentiated neuron were detected by immunocytochemical method and the transdifferentiation process was observed under light microscope. Results Under induction conditions, hMSCs progressively resumed typical neuronal morphological characteristics. After hMSCs were incubated in induction medium for 5 h, the percentage of NSE, nestin, GFAP, TH and DAT positive cells were (77.0?5.7)%, (54.2?3.7)%,(8.8?2.4)%, (36.5?15.8)% and (26.0?14.2)%, respectively. There were no positive expressions in the control group. Conclusion The hMSCs are able to differentiate into neuron-like and dopaminergic neuron-like cells in vitro.

Purpose:It has been shown that the heart is a chaotic oscillator. So it is appropriiate to use the Lyapunov exponent, an important parameter to identify the nature of non-linear dynamical systems, for identifying the state of human heart. Methods:Preliminary results are obtained in this paper using Wolf's algorithm for 8 normal and 107 abnormal ECG recordings. Results:Significant differences are found between the Lyapunov exponents of normal ECG and ECG with obvious coronary stenosis (OCS), but there is no significant difference between the Lyapunov exponents of normal ECG and ECG with mild coronary stenosis (MCS);Significant differences are also found between the Lyapunov exponents of R-R interval series of normal ECG、ECG with MCS and ECG with OCS. Conclusions:It is apparent that the R-R interval series can give us more messages about human heart, and the Lyapunov exponents of ECG and R-R interval series are the appropriate parameters for the identification of the physiological states of human heart. It is possible to use Lyapunov exponent for early diagnosis of Coronary Heart Disease.

BACKGROUND: Borneol can open blood-brain barrier (BBB) but the mechanisms are not very clear. Histamine and 5-hydroxtryptamine can take part in regulation of permeability of BBB. There is not report on the rela tion between the effect of opening BBB of borneol and the regulation of permeability of BBB of histamine (HA)/5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). OBJECTIVE: To study the relation between the effect of opening BBB of bornool and the regulation of permeability of BBB of histamine (HA)/5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT).DESIGN: A completely randomized and controlled study.SETTING: Clinical Pharmacological Institute of University of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangzhou.MATERIALS: The experiment was carried out at the Clinical Pharmacological Institute of University of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangzhou from September 2003 to February 2004. Totally 104 healthy male SD rats, weighting 230-27.0 g, supplied by Guangdong Medical Experimental Animal Center, were selected.METHODS: The rats were randomly divided into 13 groups: pre-medicine group and post-medicine group (high, moderate and low dosage group and 5, 20, 45 and 60 minutes group in each dosage group) with 8 in each group. Borneol was mixed as 10% millet oil suspension. Rats were fasted before experiment for whole night, and medicine was perfused on the next morning with the high, moderate and low dosage of 0.15, 0.12 and 0.09 g/kg respectively. Hypothalami of rats was selected at various time points to make biological samples. Contents of HA and 5-HT were assayed with HPLC system electrochemical detector.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes of level of histamin (HA) and 5-HT in hypothalamus of rats after administration of borneol.RESULTS: Data of totally 104 rats was entered the final analysis. ① Contents of HA and 5-HT in hypothalami were 2.07±0.54 μg/g and 1.45±0.14 μg/g respectively. ② The level of HA in hypothalamus of rats after different doses of borneol were higher than that of before administration. Comparing the level of HA in 20 minutes after moderate dose with before administration, the level of HA in 20 minutes was increased significantly [(3.36±0.21) μg/g, P < 0.01], the others of moderate dose, the 45 minutes after high dose, the 20 and 45 minutes after low dose were also increased significantly than before administration (P < 0.05). ③ After administration of different doses of borneol, the level of 5-HT after high dose were higher than that of before administration [5, 20, 45 and 60 minutes after medicine: (1.90±0.32), (3.28 ±0.25), (2.66±0.46), (2.80±0.34) μg/g, respectively; (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01)]; the level of 5-HT after 5, 20 and 45 minutes of moderate and low dose were increased significantly too (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Borneol could open BBB by increasing levels of HA and 5-HT in hypothalamus of rats.Borneol mediates opening of BBB by increasing levels of HA and5-HT in rats.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupoint injection with BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid (BCG-PSN) in treating bronchial asthma. Method Seventy-two patients with bronchial asthma were randomized into an acupoint injection group and a muscular injection group, 36 cases in each group. The acupoint injection group was intervened by acupoint injection with BCG-PSN to Zusanli (ST36) and Dingchuan (EX-B1) alternately, 1 mL for two points in total each time; the muscular injection group was intervened by muscular injection at the same dose and frequency, twice a week, for successive 3 months. The pulmonary function and asthma control test (ACT) were estimated before and after intervention and during March of the next year. Result After intervention, the FEV1 values were (80.97±2.31)% and (80.78±2.56)% respectively in the acupoint injection group and muscular injection group, and PEF values were (6.50±0.21)L/s and (6.48±0.25)L/s, and the between-group differences were statistically insignificant (P>0.05). The ACT score was (23.02±1.03) in the acupoint injection group, significantly better than (22.40±2.04) in the muscular injection group (P<0.05). The follow-up study showed that the ACT score in the acupoint injection group was superior to that in the muscular injection group (P<0.05). Conclusion Acupoint injection and muscular injection with BCG-PSN can equally improve the pulmonary function in bronchial asthma, while the acupoint injection can produce a more significant effect than muscular injection in improving ACT.

Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2006;0(08):-
OBJECTIVE To investigate the expression of PTEN and VEGF gene in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and their clinical significance. METHODS The expression of PTEN and VEGF gene were examined by using immunohistochemical S-P staining method in 10 cases of normal tissues, 20 cases of para-tumor tissues and 60 cases of LSCC. RESULTS The positive rates of PTEN in normal tissues, para-tumor tissues and LSCC were 100.0 %, 95.0 %, and 70.0 % respectively (P<0.05),and VEGF protein showed positive expression of 20.0 %,50.0 %,73.3% in normal, para-tumor and LSCC tissues with statistical significance(P<0.05), In LSCC, the expression of PTEN and VEGF was positively correlated with TNM stage, differentiation of tumor, cervical and distant metastasis of lymph node, 3-year survive rate of patients(P<0.05),No significant association was observed in expression of PTEN and VEGF with tumor location, patient's age and sex(P>0.05). Spearman correlation analysis revealed that PTEN was negatively correlated with VEGF expression(?=-0.3948, P=0.0018). CONCLUSION The aberrant expression of PTEN and VEGF may play a role in occurrence, progression and metastasis of LSCC.
