Objective: To observe the biocompatibility of acellular nerve scaffold (ANS) via three sterilization methods, to provide experimental data for tissue engineering industrialization. Methods: Pig sciatic nerves were cut and treated using the NaOH maceration method. ANSs were sterilized by ethylene oxide, ~(60)Co-irradiation and peracetic acid. Evaluated the biocompatibility by MTT, cellular compatibility test, collagenase susceptibility test in vitro and local implantation test. Results: ANS retained the integrity of structure and major components of the basement membrane. The result of MTT test showed that the ANSs via different sterilization methods had statistical differences. There were no overall significant differences in Collagenase susceptibility test. Scanning electron microscope results showed the skin fibroblasts could attach, proliferate and grow well on the surface and holes of ANS with sterilization of PAA and Co~(60),a small quantity of cells adhered on ANS with sterilization of ETO. Tests for local effects after implantation show that different sterilization methods don't effect the ability of ANS to resist the enzyme degradation. In ETO group, rats showed an acute inflammatory response followed by chronic inflammation. In PAA and ~(60)Co group rats showed an acute inflammatory response that diminished such that the graft ultimately became indistinguishable from native tissue, observations that were consistent with graft acceptance. Conclusion: Peracetic acid sterilization offers a convenient alternative protocol for ANS processing. ANS sterilized with PAA shows good compatibility and biologic safety. It is an ideal sterilization method for ANS.

Background and purpose: Ovarian lymphoma (OL) is usually misdiagnosed as ovarian cancer with bulk lymph node invasion (OC-BLN), and vice versa. Therefore, to distinguish these two types of disease, we compared their clinical characteristics in this study. Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed 14 OL and 14 OC-BLN patients from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center and Shanghai Eighth People's Hospital. The clinical char-acteristics, image and laboratory examination data were compared. Results: There was no significant difference in age, symptom, fever, weight loss and volume of ascitic fluid between the two groups. Comparing with OC-BLN, OL patients have larger tumor in ovaries [(13.04±5.94) cm vs (7.78±6.38) cm, P=0.033], and higher percentage of solid ovarian tumor (85.71% vs 28.5%, P=0.006). Lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)/CA125 was higher in OL (7.66±8.03) than OC-BLN (0.31±0.27, P=0.009). Using LDH/CA125 to diagnose OL, area under the curve (AUC) was 0.952. When the threshold value was set at 1, the sensitivity and specificity was 91.7% and 100%, respectively. Conclusion: OL and OC-BLN are easily to be misdiagnosed. OL has larger and more solid tumor than OC-BLN. LDH/CA125 can help to distinguish these two diseases and guide clinical decision making.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML). Methods The clinical data of 14 patients with hepatic angiomyolipoma admitted in our hospital from 1989 to 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. Result There were 4 male patients and 10 female patients. Median age was 41 years old. The lesions located in right lobe in 8 patients, and in left lobe in 6 patients. B-US was taken in 12 patients before operation, and other examinations included CT in 8 patients, MRI in 7 patients and angiography in 2 patients. Five patients were diagnosed with HAML by imagine features. Fine needle biopsy was taken in 1 patient with no definite diagnosis. All patients underwent resection and got the histopathologic diagnosis with HAML. All specimens were HMB-45 positive. S-100 and SMA were tested in 7 and 6 patients respectively, and were positive in all those patients. All cases were followed up for 6 months to 18 years (median time was 3 years). 13 patients were still alive without recurrence and 1 patient died of postoperative DIC and heart failure. Conclusion There was marked female predominance in HAML. Imaging features are helpful for preoperative diagnosis of HAML, but correct diagnosis was achieved in only a fraction of patients. HMB-45 positive was definitive proof for histopathologic diagnosis of HAML. Hepatectomy was an effective treatment for HAML.

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of TLR4, TLR9 and DC-SIGN in primary and recurrent condyloma acuminatum (CA) lesions. Methods An immunohistochemical method using streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) was performed to detect the expressions and distribution of TLR4, TLR9 and DC-SIGN in tissue specimens obtained from the recurrent CA lesions of 30 patients, primary CA lesions of 30 patients, and from the foreskin of 20 normal human controls. Results The expression levels of TLR4, TLR9 and DC-SIGN in primary and recurrent CA lesions were significantly higher than those in normal control tissue (all P < 0.001), and the cells expressing TLR4, TLR9 or DC-SIGN were mainly located in the basal and spinous layer in CA lesions. There was no significant difference in the expressions of TLR4, TLR9 or DC-SIGN between primary and recurrent CA lesions (all P> 0.05). A positive correlation was found between the expression of TLR4, TLR9 and DC-SIGN in CA lesions. Conclusion The overexpression of TLR4, TLR9 and DC-SIGN probably plays an important role in the occurrence and recurrence of CA.

Objective To explore the demographic factors and the risk of the pedicle screw insertion of the narrow pedi?cles. Methods Thoracolumbar spine thin?section CT image data of 312 adults from September 2014 to September 2015 were ana?lyzed. The pedicle width, medial and lateral cortical thickness, spongy bone thickness, spongy bone thickness/cortical thickness, e angle and screw path length of each pedicle were measured. The incidence and the distribution characteristics of the narrow pedi?cle were analyzed. Anatomic parameters and age, gender and stature were compared between the narrow pedicle group and non?narrow pedicle. The risk of the pedicle screw insertion of the narrow pedicle was assessed. Results Among the 3 081 pedicles, 74 narrow pedicles were determined as their pedicles width were less than 5 mm, and the proportion of narrow pedicle was 2.40%. Among the 312 subjects, 26 subjects were found having narrow pedicles, and the proportion of individuals with narrow pedicles in the population was 8.33% (26/312). The incidences of narrow pedicle in thoracolumbar spine were T10 0.32%, T11 0.32%, T12 0.98%, L1 7.54%, L2 2.92%. The spongy bone thickness, spongy bone thickness/cortical thickness of narrow pedicle were lower than non?narrow pedicle. However, there were no significant differences of medial and lateral cortical thickness, e angle and screw path length between the narrow pedicle and non?narrow pedicle. Difference of the mean age between the two subjects groups had no statistical significance. The percentage of female in narrow pedicle subjects group was 84.6%(22/26), which was higher than that in non?narrow pedicle subjects group (49.7%, 142/286). The mean stature of the male and female of stenosis pedicle group subjects were 163.8±1.3 cm and 152.5±4.3 cm, which were shorter than those of non?narrow subjects pedicle group (169.5±5.6 cm, 160.1±6.6 cm). The percentage of the cortical bone breakthrough by the pedicle screws of narrow pedicle group was (84.6%, 27/32), which was higher than that of non?narrow pedicle group (14.7%, 33/224). Conclusion L1 is the most common segment of thoracolumbar spine that narrow pedicle exist, which is the result of reduction of the spongy bone thickness. Narrow pedicle mostly appears in short stature female. There is high risk of cortical bone breakthrough by insertion of the posterior pedicle screws in the narrow pedicle.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and analyze prognostic risk factors of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma. Methods The clinical data of 19 cases of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma admitted in our hospital from January 1999 to December 2009 were analyzed retrospectively. The survival function was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier. The possible prognostic risk factors were tested by χ2-test. Results Hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma was diagnosed by pathology in the 19 patients, among which hepatic tunic was infiltrated in 13 cases, peritoneum involved in 1 case, intravascular cancer embolus in 1 case. At that time lymphocyte nodes metastasis in 2 cases were found by regional lymphadenectomy in 7cases. The 1-year and 3-year survival rates were 61% and 42%,respectively. Prognosis of patients with tumor size > 5 cm ( χ2 = 4. 392, P = 0. 036 ), history of heavy drinking ( χ2 = 11.010, P = 0.001 ) or intraoperative blood transfusion ( χ2 = 4. 645,P = 0. 031 ) were worse than others. Conclusion It was difficult to get correct preoperative diagnosis of combined hepatocellularcholangiocarcinoma. Tumor size, history of heavy drinking and blood transfusion were all prognostic related risk factors.
