AIM To study effect of Salvia miltiorrhiza on the change of pulmanory pathology and expression of nuclear factor-kappa B in mice pulmonary fibrosis. METHODS Mice models were reproduced by injecting bleomycin to the trachea. Then the mice were treated with Salvia multiorrhiza. Observed Salvia miltiorrhiza effect on the mice models included pulmonary index, pulmonary pat hology and expression of NF-?B in pulmonary tissue by immunohistochemical technique. RESULTS Salvia miltiorrhiza depressed pulmonary index, reduced pulmonary pathological damage. At the same time, we also observed that it suppressed the abnormaly increased expression of NF-?B in pulmonary tissue of pulmonary fibrosis mice. CONCLUSION Salvia miltiorrhiza has good effect on reliefing pulmonary fibrosis reproduced by bleomycin.

Objective To observe the effects of modified Yigong Powder (MYP) combined with chemotherapy on transplanted hepatocarcinoma of mice and to study its mechanisms. Methods Hepatocarcinoma 22 mouse model was established and then was used to observe the attenuating and synergic effects of MYP when applied together with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). After 8 days of treatment, the tumor-inhibiting rate, activity of natural killer (NK)cells and interleukin-2 (IL-2) and small intestinal malondialdehyde (MDA) content were examined. Results MYP combined with 5-FU could increased the tumor-inhibiting rate to some extent and improve the immune function by increasing immune organ weight and increasing the activity of NK cells and IL-2. MYP combined with 5-FU could also reduce the 5-FU-induced intestinal injuries by relieving the damage of free radicals and inhibiting the lipid peroxidation and a good prognosis was expected in tumor-bearing animals treated with chemotherapy. Conclusion MYP exerts an attenuating and synergic effect when used together with 5-FU in treating tumor-bearing mice and its mechamism may be related to the improvement of immune function and reduction of intestinal injuries.

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2011;09(2):84-87
Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture treatment for migraine. Methods: Forty cases were randomly allocated to a treatment group and a control group, 20 cases in each group. Cases in the treatment group were treated with acupuncture, while cases in the control group were treated with oral Sibelium. After that, the changes of cerebral blood flow were observed before and after treatment. Results: There was significant difference in clinical efficacies between two groups (P<0.05). There were also significant differences in arterial blood flow velocities of before and after treatment. Acupuncture can produce substantial differences (P<0.05) in blood flow velocities of vertebral artery (VA), middle cerebral artery (MCA) and anterior cerebral artery (ACA) during an increased flow rate. It can also produce statistical differences in blood flow velocities of VA during a decreased flow rate (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture can effectively alleviate the pain of migraine sufferers and exert a two-way regulation on the cerebral blood flow.

This article was aimed to study the effects of plumbagin to human hepatic stellate cells.Observations were made on the influence of proliferation inhibition rate, apoptosis, secretion of extracellular matrix function and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) by plumbagin.HSC-LX2 and drug were co-incubated for 48 hours. Then,MTT assay was used in the detection of inhibition of cell proliferation. The flow cytometry was used in the detection of apoptosis.Immunohistochemical method was used to observe typeⅠ and Ⅲ collagen,MMP-1 and MMP-13 expression location and area. The results showed that the low, medium and high concentrations of plumbagin inhibited cell proliferation rate of HSC-LX2,induced apoptosis of cells, reduced the secretion of typeⅠ and Ⅲ collagen, and increased the secretion ability of MMP-1 and MMP-13.Effects mentioned above were dose-dependent with statistical difference (P < 0.05).Effects in the medium and high concentrations groups were stronger than colchicine group. It was concluded that plumbagin had the ability to inhibit cell proliferation rate of HSC-LX2,induce apoptosis, reduce the secretion of extracellular matrix, and increase the secretion ability of fibrin degradation enzyme. Therefore,it had intervention effect on the process of liver fibrosis. All effects mentioned above were dose-dependent.And effects in the medium and high concentrations groups were stronger than colchicine group.

AIM: The present study was designed to observe the effect of [D- Arg1, D- Trp7,9, Leu11] - substance P (spantide), a non- selective antagonist of NK receptors, on the up- regulation of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) induced by formalin test. METHODS: Formalin (5%, 0.2 mL) was subcutaneously injected into the plantar side of the right hind paw to produce persistent pain and hyperalgesia. The pain response was determined by spontaneous flinch reflex test. NOS expression was examined using NADPH- d histochemical staining. Spantide was intrathecally injected via L5 - L6 intervertebral space 5 min prior to the formalin injection. RESULTS: Injection of formalin resulted in a characteristic behavioral response consisting of vigorous scratching, biting, licking and lifting of the injected hind paw from the box' s bottom. Following these behavioral responses, the NOS expression was up- regulated in the pericentral canal region of the L5 segment of the spinal cord. Pre- treatment with spantide depressed the spontaneous flinches of the injected paw in the second phase of the formalin test. At the same time, the upregulation of NOS was substantially inhibited. CONCLUSION: It might be concluded that substance P played an important role in the up - regulation of NOS in the pericentral canal region of the spinal cord in the formalin test.

Objective:To compare the postoperative effects of double eyelid surgery with different exophthalmos to find its influence on the surgery and necessary changes in preoperative design and during operation. Methods:A total of 50 female patients with single eyelid seeking beauty from June 2021 to March 2022 were selected from the Department of Plastic Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. The ocular protrusion was measured by HETEL ophthalmostatometer before surgery. Both eyes at 12-15 mm were taken as normal group ( n=26), both eyes at 16-18 mm as mild protrusion group ( n=14) and both eyes at 19-22 mm as severe protrusion group ( n=10). All the patients were treated with double-eyelid surgery by orbital septum and unified postoperative nursing. Results:After six months of follow-up, there was no difference in eyelid width with closed eyes (all P>0.05). The width of double eyelid with open eyes in normal group was smaller than that in mild protrusion group ( F=23.23, all P<0.05), and the width of double eyelid with open eyes in mild protrusion group was smaller than that in severe protrusion group ( F=47.70, all P<0.05). There was no difference in the improvement rate of facial aesthetics among the three groups ( P>0.05). The " feeling of meet" and scar formation in the normal group were less than those in the mild protrusion group ( F=16.92, F=33.45, all P<0.05), and the " feeling of meet" and scar formation in the mild protrusion group were less than those in the severe protrusion group ( F=27.93, F=28.53, all P<0.05). The improvement rate of normal group was higher than that of mild and severe protrusion group (χ 2=7.25, 7.89, all P<0.05). There was no difference in the improvement rate between the mild and severe protrusion groups ( P>0.05). Conclusions:In clinical practice, it is necessary to make corresponding changes in the preoperative design and operation of double eyelid surgery for patients with high eyeball protrusion.
