Journal of Audiology and Speech Pathology 2009;17(3):265-267
Objective To investigate the mechanisms of early sensorineural hearing loss of diabetic rats. Methods The diabetic model for rats was established. Every rat was checked with ABR and DPOAE before and af-ter treatment . After 14 days , the blood glucose, blood fat, SOD, GSH-Px and MDA were measured. Results For the model group, the rats" blood glucose and fat increased while the GSH-Px was reduced more than the con-trol group. The response amplitudes of DPOAE decreased at 4 000 Hz and 8 000 Hz(P<0. 05). Conclusion The damage to the hair cells caused by the affected metabolism is considered as the culprit of the sensorineural hearing loss and the changes of DPOAE took place earlier than that of ABR, thus becoming useful in detecting early hearing loss of the diabetic patients.

Objective: To investigate the relationship of murine fibrinogen-like protein 2(mfgl2) / fibroleukin with pulmonary impairment in the murine model of severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS).Methods: The Balb/cJ mice infected with murine hepatitis virus strain 3(MHV-3) through the trachea were observed for the pathological features and virus distribution in different organs. The expressions of both mfgl2 and fibrino in the lungs were determined by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Results: The MHV-3 infected mice developed typical interstitial pneumonia with extensive hyaline membrane formation in the alveoli, presented micro-vascular thrombosis in the pulmonary vessels and died within 5 days.MHV-3 virus replication was identified in all the organs observed. The specific expression of mfgl2 prothrombinase was noted in the terminal and respiratory bronchioles, alveolar epithelia and infiltrating cells. Conclusion: The characteristics of the pulmonary impairment of SARS in human can be properly simulated by the MHV-3 induced murine model of SARS.The up-regulation of the specific gene mfgl2 in the lungs involved in fibrino deposition and microvascular thrombosis may be largely responsible for SARS-associated pulmonary damages.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of intensity-madulated radiotherapy(IMRT) as the primary treatment in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods Between November 2001 and March 2006,147 newly diagnosed NPC patients were treated with IMRT. The disease was Stage I in 3 patients, Stage Ⅱ in 35,Stage Ⅲ in 67 and Stage Ⅳ in 42. For T1-2 disease, the prescription dose was 70 Gy to the gross tumor volume( GTVnx) and positive neck nodes ,60 Gy to the planning target volume I, and 50-56 Gy to the clinically negative neck. For T3-4 disease, the prescription dose was 74-78 Gy to GTVnx. The local control rate(LC),overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) were estimated by Kaplan-Meier method. Results The 3-year LC, OS, DFS and DMFS of the whole group were 93.2% ,93.5% ,72.6% and 74.4% ,respectively. T stage was a significant predictor of LC and OS. For patients with T1-2 and T3-4 disease, the LC was 100% and 86.9% (P=0.007) and OS was 95.5% and 91.3% (P=0.030), respectively. N stage was a significant predictor of OS, DFS and DMFS(P=0.03,0.004 and 0.0004,respectively). The grade Ⅰ+ Ⅱ and Ⅲ acute toxieities of parotid were 96.6% and 1.4%. The rate of grade Ⅱ xerostomia at 3-month, 6-month, 1-year and 2-year after radiotherapy were 43.0%, 12.0% ,4.9% and 3.2%. Conclusions The treatment results are promising according to our target definition and dose prescription protocol for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Objective To understand the epidemic situation and epidemiological characteristics of malaria in Jiangsu Prov?ince from 2005 to 2014,so as to provide the evidence for formulating and adjusting the strategies and measures on malaria elimi?nation in this province. Method The epidemiological data of malaria in Jiangsu province from 2005 to 2014 were collected, and the prevalence situation, infection sources as well as the temporal, regional and population distribution of the cases were an?alyzed. Result A total of 5 069 malaria cases were reported in Jiangsu Province form 2005 to 2014,there were 3 422 cases (67.51%)of vivax malaria,1 497 cases(29.53%)of falciparum malaria, and 150 cases(2.96%)that were unclassified. Among all the reported cases,2 139(42.20%)were local cases,1 131 were(22.31%)imported cases from other places in Chi?na ,and 1 799(35.49%)were imported cases from abroad. There were 3 809 male cases and 1 260 female cases, with a sex ratio of 3.02∶1. The patients were mainly aged from 25 to<60 years(accounting for 67.15%),and were mainly young adult farmers (40.26%)and migrant workers(23.63%),who mainly distributed(accounting for 60.58%)in Xuzhou,Suqian,Huai’an,Su?zhou and Nantong cities. The predominant malaria type from 2005 to 2009 were vivax malaria, while after 2010,it changed to falciparum malaria. Conclusions The malaria epidemic situation has been effectively controlled in Jiangsu Province, which re?flects the initiative achievements of malaria elimination. However, there are still many imported malaria cases from abroad, and the species of the Plasmodium are diverse. Therefore, the imported malaria from abroad still remains the key of malaria control in Jiangsu Province.
