Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 1986;0(03):-
Apoptosis is important to the development of diseases. Research recently indicates that c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and cysteinyl aspartate-specific protease (caspase) play key roles in apoptosis and affect the development of diseases. This article is to introduce the function and relationship between JNK and caspase in apoptosis during the process of diseases.

ObjectiveTo observe the effect of nimodipine on hippocampal DNA-binding activity change of cAMP response element binding protein ( CREB )and CCAAT enhancer binding protein (C/EBP) in a rat model of vascular dementia(VD),and to explore the treatment mechanism of nimodipine.Methods66 healthy adult male SD rats were assigned to the following three groups of 22 each:VD model group,Sham-operated group,Nimodipine group.VD rat model was prepared by four-vessel occlusion.Physiological saline solution( 8 ml · kg-1 · d-1 )and Nimodipine (20 mg· kg-1 · d-1 )were administered by gavage respectively. The Morris maze was adopted to detect the changes of spatial learning and memorizing capacity, while HE straining was adopted to observe the changes of pathological characteristics in hippocampal CA1 area, and electrophoretic mobility shift assay(EMSA) were adopted to observe DNA-binding activity changes of CREB and C/EBP in hippocampus tissue.ResultsThe Morris maze showed:the learning and memory ability of nimodipine group rats ( escape latency period ( 26.63 ± 1.31 )s,the times of cross-platform(7.25 ±0.92) times) was higher than that of VD model group(escape latency period (41.25 ± 1.83 ) s,the times of cross-platform ( 5.33 ± 0.64 ) times ),with difference of statistical significance (P <0.05).HE results:in VD model group, neurons in CA1 were scaltered and boundaries were unclear, nuclei region was stained, coagulation necrosis appeared, obviously cells lost. The CA1 neurons of nimodipine group returned to be normal, nuclear membrane's profile and nudeolus were clear, regularly arranged; the number of hippocampal normal neurons in nimodipine group (43.19 ± 2.87 ) was more than that of VD model group( 16.33 ± 1.09 ),with difference of statistical significance(P<0.05 ).EMSA:both CREB and C/EBP DNA-binding activity in rat hippocampus of nimodipine group ( ( 369.75 ± 13.22 ),( 428.25 ± 17.69 ) respectively ) were higher than those of VD model group ( ( 142.25 ± 27.86 ),(97.00 ± 5.88 ),respectively),with difference of statistical significance (P <0.01 )).ConclusionNimodipine can improve VD rats hippocampal neuronal injuries and their learning and memory impairment may be involved in the upregulating CREB and C/EBP DNA-binding activity.

Objective To discuss the clinical efficacy of transurethral electroresection in the treatment of ureteral orifice tumors. Methods A total of 65 cases of ureteral orifice tumor were treated with transurethral electroresection and chemotherapy. Results The operation time was 5~90 min(mean,35 min),and the intraoperative blood loss was 5~100 ml(mean,50 ml).No blood transfusion was required. No fatal case was encountered.Out of the 65 cases, there were 53 cases of transitional cell carcinoma(grade Ⅰ,43 cases;grade Ⅱ,10 cases) and 12 cases of papilloma. The 65 cases were followed for 6~24 months(mean,15 months).Postoperative urethral stricture happened in 4 cases, which were cured by dilation of the urethra.Recurrence of tumor at the trigone and lateral wall of the bladder occurred in 5 cases, which were given a re-operation of transurethral electroresection and chemotherapy and were followed for 10~20 months(mean,15 months) without recurrence. Conclusions Transurethral electroresection of ureteral orifice tumors gives satisfactory effects and should be further recommended.

Objective To investigate the correlation between the plasm homocysteine (Hcy) levels and cystathionine β synthase (CBS) T833C gene polymorphism in Xinjiang Kazakh with essential hypertension. Methods 239 Kazak patients with hypertension (hypertension group) and 206 with normotensive (control group) were selected for the study. Amplification Refractory Mutation System (ARMS) was used to analyze the polymorphism of CBS gene T833C, TT, TC and CC genotypes and the various sites of T, C allele frequencies in research group and the control group. Results Plasma of Hcy level was higher in the hypertensive group than those of control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05), and the individual plasma of Hcy with TC gene was higher than that with TT gene. The C allele frequencies was significantly higher in EH group than that in controls in Xinjiang Kazakh population, and the difference was significant (P<0.05). The risk of EH group in individuals carrying TC genetype was 2.39 times higher than in individuals carrying TT genetype (OR = 2.39, 95%CI:1.125 ~5.076, P = 0.02). Conclusion Elevated Hcy level may be a risk factor of Kazakhs hypertension in Xinjiang. The Cystathionine β synthase gene of T833C polymorphism may be associated with essential hypertension in Kazak people in Xinjiang.

Acupuncture Research 2010;0(03):-
On the basis of systematicly reviewing the developmental history of acupuncture and moxibustion and profoundly understanding its academic connotations, the authors of the present article make a summary and analysis on the key factors influencing the development of acupuncturology. These key factors are 1) the emergence of "microacupuncture needle regulating-Qi" and the establishement of their corresponding theory system,2) a large number of practitioners who inherited the learnings of acupuncturology generations by generations, and abundant medical classical works which recorded the valuable academic thoughts and clinical experience of the predecesors,3) the application of acupuncture charts and manikins, and 4) modernizing changes of acupuncture learnings after introduction of western medicine to China. Just under the influence of these key factors, the acupuncture medicine separates itself from the level of the simple experience medicine, and has formed a set of special theory system and developed into a mature subject.

Objectives This paper is focused on the investigation of effects of inhomogeneous head tissues and anisotropic skull as well as white matter conductivity distribution on magnetic and electric field distribution of electric impedance tomography (EIT) and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT) based on the five-layer FEM head modeling. Methods Four different characteristics head models were set:homogeneous distribution, inhomogeneous distribution, anisotropic skull and white matter distribution.Electric and magnetic field distribution were obtained by the performance of numeric solving of the forward problem, and the effects of inhomogeneous conductivity and anisotropic conductivity on the distribution were studied by applying the quantitative statistical analysis. Results The present results showed that inhomogeneous and anisotropic characteristics can significantly alter the electric field and current density distributions then the magnetic field distribution induced in the brain. Conclusion The conclusion provides theoretical basis for the application of MREIT in the reconstruction of inhomogeneous and anisotropic conductivity of head tissues.
