In order to know the effects of caloric stimulation on neuronal firing in medial vestibular nuclei (MVN) by middle ear irrigation, the middle ear was irrigated with ice (4 degrees C), hot (44 degrees C), and warm (37 degrees C) water, and the firing rate of MVN neuron was extracellularly recorded. The results showed that the firing rate of MVN neuron was changed by caloric stimulation, and the majority of MVN neurons showed excitation by irrigation with hot water and inhibition by ice water (type A). The neuronal firing was recovered immediately after the cessation of the stimulation. I It was concluded that the neuronal firing rate in MVN was changed by caloric stimulation in middle ear cavity. The response was different in various neurons.

AIM:To established a method for determining geniposide and baicalin in four preparations cantaining Fructus gardeniae and Radix Scutellariae by HPLC.METHODS:The separation was performed on Lichrospher C_ 18 column;using water-phosphoric acid(53∶0.2)and acetonitrile as a mobile phase,gradient elution.The detection wavelength was 240 nm.The flow rate was at 1.0 mL/min.The column temperature was at room temperature.RESULTS:The linear range of geniposide was in the range of 1.9-76 ?g/mL,r=0.999 9,the average recovery was 101.3%.The linear range of baicalin was 10.58-423 ?g/mL,r=0.999 9,the average recovery was 100.6%.CONCLUSION:This method is rapid,sensitive and accurate.It indicates that geniposide and bai-calin in traditional Chinese medicine preparations can be determinated simultaneously,and the method can be used for quality control.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) in the sinus mucosa of chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). METHOD: Using immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR, testing the content of PPAR-γ in sinus mucosa and nasal polyps of patients with chronic sinusitis without nasal polyps and normal inferior turbinate, and analyzing the differences. RESULT: The PPAR-γ was found both in sinus mucosa of CRSsNP, nasal polyps of CRSwNP and in normal inferior turbinate; (2) The expression of PPAR-γ in sinus mucosa of CRSsNP and nasal polyps of CRSwNP was lower than that in normal inferior turbinate tissue, and the differences was prominent in statistics; (3) No differences in the expression of PPAR-γ were obtained in sinus mucosa of CRSsNP and nasal polyps of CRSwNP. CONCLUSION The PPAR-γ expressed in human nasal mucosa, meanwhile it was descending in sinus mucosa of CRSsNP and nasal polyps of CRSwNP. The long-term inflammations resulted from CRSsNP and nasal polyps of CRSwNP might relate to PPAR-γ, it suggested that PPAR-γ agonists may offer a new therapy for the treatment of Chronic Rhinosinusitis.

Otitis media is a common problem in children, which may cause hearing loss and complications sometimes. This topic will review the definition, causes, types, clinical characteristics and treatments of each type of ear infections in children, by reading recently literatures. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis and choose a appropriate treatment of otitis media in children to avoid antibiotics abusing. Sometime some cases need operations, which are effective, especially in chronic suppurative otitis media and cholesteatoma, and we need further studying focuse on when do the operations and how to shoose them.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of procalcitonin (PCT) in patients with infection complicated by heart failure.Methods A total 2454 patients,which with simple heart failure,simple bacterial infection and bacterial infection complicated with heart failure,from Sun Yat-sen University affiliated zhongshan hospital were enrolled in this case-control study.244 heathly controls were aslo evaluated at the same time.The serum PCT levels in different groups were analyzed by Cobas E601.ROC curve was employed to compare the diagnostic values of PCT between simple heart failure group and infection complicated with heart failure group,and the cutoff value of PCT testing for infection complicated by different grades heart failure was determined.The difference between test groups was analyzed using Kruskal-Walis H method.Results PCT levels in simple heart failure group (3.46 ± 3.07) were significantly higher than those in control group (0.04 ± 0.03) (t =4.262,P ＜ 0.01).Besides,PCT levels in infection complicated by heart failure group(18.18 ± 10.33)were significantly higher than those in simple infection group(8.97 ± 6.20) (t =2.694,P ＜ 0.01).Although PCT could still be a biomarker for diagnosis of bacterial infection in patients with or without heart failure (areas under the ROC curve were 80％,82％,85％,88％,respectively),the positive predictive values of PCT were declined in line with the heart failure degree increasing [z(1,2) =-6.24,P＜0.01; z(l,3) =-4.35,P＜0.01; z(1,4) =-5.19,P＜0.01; z(2,3) =-5.33,P＜0.01;z(2,4) =-2.86,P＜0.05; z(3,4) =-2.46,P＜0.05].There are significant differences between areas under ROC curve [z(1,2) =-2.55,P ＜ 0.05 ; z(1,3) =-5.42,P ＜ 0.01; z(2,3) =-2.90,P ＜ 0.05],and the cutoff values of PCT to identify infection patients complicated with Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ degrees heart failure were 0.086,0.192 and 0.657 μg/L,respectively.Conclusion PCT levels were increased in heart failure patients so we should pay more attention to the degree of heart failure and PCT level on patients which suffered both infection and heart failure.

Aim To analyze differential expression and interaction of β-catenin/ICAT proteins in HL60 cells when they were induced into monocytic differentiation, and to figure out the mechanism of NSC67657 in cellu-lar induction. Methods HL60 cells were treated by 10 μmol · L-1 NSC67657 , and cellular differentiation could be observed by cytochemical staining and flow cytometry. Then, RT-PCR and Western blot were em-ployed to determine the differential expression of β-catenin/ICAT genes and proteins. Co-immunoprecipi-tation assay was used to confirm the interaction of β-catenin/ICAT proteins, and laser co-focus light mi-croscopy technology was used to co-indentify proteins differential expression and intracellular location. Re-sults HL60 cells could be induced into monocytic dif-ferentiation after 5 days treatment using 10μM NSC67657 . The CD14 ( +)% cells could be up to o-ver 90%, and cytochemical staining reports were con-sistent with this result. The expressions of ICAT gene and protein were up-regulated significantly ( P <0. 01 ) , but the expressions ofβ-catenin gene and pro-tein, on the contrary, were down-regulated(P<0. 05) when HL60 cells were induced into monocytic differen-tiation. From co-immunoprecipitation assay findings, ICAT protein interacted with β-catenin protein, and the absorbance of protein electrophoresis bands in-creased in differentiated cells. From laser co-focus light microscopy assay findings, the fluorescence of ICAT and β-catenin protein could be both observed in cytoplasm and nucleus. In drug treated HL60 cells, the fluorescence of ICAT protein was enhanced both in cytoplasm and nucleus, however, the fluorescence ofβ-catenin protein, which looked like transferring into different organelles, decreased significantly in nucleus, but increased in cytoplasm. Conclusions HL60 cells could be induced into monocytic differentiation by NSC67657 and β-catenin/ICAT proteins differentially expressed during cellular differentiation. The enhanced interaction of β-catenin/ICAT proteins and β-catenin protein transferring from nucleus into cytoplasm indi-cates that NSC67657 probably induces HL60 cells into monocytic differentiation through down-regulating β-catenin protein and blockingβ-catenin protein from nu-cleus.

Aim To investigate the clinical importance of a newly designed tenodesis with polymolecular polyethlene fastener. Methods Eighty-nine patients with knee ligaments injuries were reconstructed with the technique of newly designed tenodesis. Rehabilitation program started under the instruction of the therapist from the next day of the surgery.Results The tenodesis on all patients in our study were successful. The fasteners in two patients and the transplants in three patients were blocked in the bone tunnel during the operation. One fastener was taken out from the bone tunnel under arthroscopy. The patients were followed up for 19 months averagely (from 6 months to 49 months), most of them showed a stable knee without complain, except two patients feel uncomfortable after vigorous activities; seven patients show little laxity in anterior drawer test (ADT) or posterior drawer test (PDT) and three patients had 20-degree limitation of knee flexion. Objective: To obtain the data of dental measurements in healthy Mongolia teenages.Methods: Normal dentognathic models were obtained by cephalometric roentgenography in 56 teenages (30 boys and 26 girls) aged 10～17 years. The width of the tooth crown, the size of the dental arch and dental base bone were measured with a vernier. The measurments were statistically analysed.Results: The tooth crown in boys was wider than that in girls( P 0.05). There was no significant difference in Bolton index and Point index between boys and girls.Conclusion: The dental measurments may be refrences for dental clinic and research.

[Objective] To investigate the curative effect of the red rice in treating the experimental fractures in the rats.[Methods] 64 Wistar rats suffered with single fracture in the forearm were randomized into two groups,one red rice group and the other normal saline control group.On the twenty-first day and 42 day after operation,the qualitation and morphometric observation of the bone tissue were performed.[Results] After the treatment of the red rice,the bony union of the fractured bone in the rats was obviously accelerated.The morphometric index of the bony tissue was higher than the control group with the statistical significance.The remodeling of the bony callus,the emergence of the lamellar bone and recanalization of the medullary cavity could all be enhanced by the use of the red rice.The mineralized bony callus area,the osteoblast index and the matrical calcification were obviously higher than those of the control group.[Conclusions] The growth of bony callus,the index of the osteoblast,the metrical calcification and the remodeling of the bony callus could all be enhanced by the red rice and therefore the bone union could be accelerated.
