Journal of Clinical Hepatology 2014;30(7):631-635
Objective To investigate the relationship of serum Th1/Th2 cytokine levels with liver function and their clinical significance in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis (ALC).Methods Thirty-four ALC patients,13 patients with viral liver cirrhosis (VLC),and 17 healthy controls were included in the study.Serum levels of Th1 cytokines (tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α,interferon (IFN)γ,and inter-leukin (IL)-12)and Th2 cytokines (IL-10,IL-4,IL-6,and IL-13)were measured by cytometric bead array, and their correlations with Child-Pugh classification, model of end-stage liver disease (MELD)score, and biochemical parameters of liver function were ana-lyzed.Comparison between multiple groups was made by Kruskal-Wallis H test, and comparison between two groups was made by Mann-Whitney U test.Correlation analysis was performed by Spearman rank test. Results The Th1 (TNFαand IFNγ)/Th2 (IL-10,IL-4, and IL-13)cytokine levels in ALC group were significantly lower than those in healthy control group (P<0.05),and these indices de-creased nonsignificantly as the Child-Pugh class increased.Compared with VLC patients,ALC patients had significantly increased Th1/Th2 cytokine levels except IL-4 level (P<0.05).In ALC patients,TNFα,IL-10,and IL-13 levels were positively correlated with pro-thrombin time activity (P<0.05)but negatively correlated with total bilirubin and MELD score (P<0.05);especially,the levels of IL-10,IL-13,IL-4,TNFα,and IFNγwere negatively correlated with daily alcohol consumption (P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of Th1/Th2 cytokines is significantly reduced in ALC patients and is correlated with alcohol intake and liver function damage.Monitoring se-rum Th1/Th2 cytokine levels in ALC patients is helpful for clinical treatment and prognostic evaluation.

3.Study of the Sensory Integration Training in Children with Brain Injury
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2009;15(2):164-166
Objective To comprehend the characters of sensory integration of children with brain injury and identify the effect of sensory integration training. Methods 127 children with brain injury were determined by the check form of sensory integration, Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-China Recension (WISC-CR) and comprehensive function assessment for disabled children. These children were divided into the trial group (n=92) and control group (n=35). All children of two groups received rehabilitation training, but children of the trial group also received sensory integration training. The Results of them were compared before and after rehabilitation. Results The scores of the check form of sensory integration of the children with cerebral palsy were significantly higher than that of children with mental retardation (P<0.01). After rehabilitation training, the raising scores of comprehensive function assessment for disabled children of the trial group were significantly higher than the control group (P<0.01).Conclusion The ability of sensory integration are abnormal in children with brain injury. The sensory integration training can accelerate the comprehensive function of children with brain injury effectively.

Objective To study the role of cell density in the tyrosol production and morphology for Candida albicans biofilms. Methods C. albicans SC5314 and clinical isolates were propagated in yeast peptone dextrose (YPD) medium. Cells were collected by centrifugation and washed twice in sterile phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) before this study, then resuspended in RPMI 1640 supplemented with L-glutamine and adjusted to a desired concentration of 5 × 10~6 cells/ml, 5×10~5 cells/ml, 5 × 10~4 cells/ml, 5 × 10~3 cells/ml after counting with a hematocytometer. Standardized C. albicans cells were prepared as above description and 2000 μl of this standardized cell suspension was dispensed into the wells, then C. albicans biofilms were formed on the bottom of the polystyrene wells. In this study, tyrosol synthesized by SC5314 and clinical isolates of C. albicans biofilm was quantified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The effects of tyrosol on morphology of C. albicans biofilms were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results Tyrosol production of C. albicans biofilms was affected by cell densities. At lower inoculation size(5 μ 10~3 cells/ml), there was too less tyrosol production to be detected at the early stage of the biofilms formation. At higher inoculation size (5 μ10~6 cells/ml), tyrosol can be detectable at the early stage or at the mature stage of biofilms formation. There was a sharp increase in tyrosol concentration at 24 h, while there was a decrease in tyrosol concentration after that time from the strains when the strains were at an inoculation size of 5 × 10~6 cells/ml and 5 × 10~5 cells/ml. Cell densities affected the morphology formation of the C. albicans biofilms. At the early stage of the biofilms formation, C. albicans grew less germ tube at lower cell densities than that at the higher cell densities. With the mature of the biofilms, C. albicarts grew more hyphae at higher cell densities than that at the lower cell densities. All these above showed that cell densities played an important role in the propagation for the C. albi-cans in the biofilm formation. Conclusion Cell density play an important role in the formation of the C. albi-cans biofilms and the production of the tyrosol.

Objective To study the variability of Traditional Chinese version of the Psycho-educational Profile-3rd edition (PEP-3) and Simplified Chinese version of the Psycho-educational Profile (C-PEP) as evaluating the special children. Methods 194 special children were evaluated with C-PEP and PEP-3 from April, 2011 to December, 2014. The scores of cognitive verbal/preverbal, expressive language, recep-tive language, gross motor, fine motor, visual-motor imitation, and communication and physical ability were compared. Results There were significant diferences in all the dimensions between PEP-3 and C-PEP scales (Z>3.446, P<0.01) except cognitive verbal/preverbal (Z=0.912, P=0.362). Conclusion There was difference between PEP-3 and C-PEP for the evaluation of special children.

Objective To develop a quality of life scale suitable for aphasic Chinese stroke patients by translating and evaluating the psychometric properties of the original 39-generic version of the Stroke and Aphasia Quality of Life scale (SAQOL-39g).Methods The SAQOL-39g was translated into Chinese and edited. The well edited and translated self-rated and non-self-rated scales were used to test 86 aphasia patients and their caretakers to evaluate the feasibility, internal consistency,test-retest reliability, content validity, and construct validity of the scale. Results The feasibility of the Chinese version of the SAQOL-39g scale was sufficient, with 97% of the ques tionnaires completed. The average time taken to complete the self-report version was (21.4±4.37) minutes, with (13.25±5.61) minutes needed for the proxy version. The Cronbach's alpha values for the overall survey ranged from 0.879 to 0.950 and for the subdomains from 0.863 to 0943 for both forms, suggesting satisfactory internal reliability. The test-retest coefficients for the two forms ranged from 0.804 to 0.974 and from 0.861 to 0.987.A total of 3 common factors were extracted using factor analysis, and the cumulative contribution rate was 59.7%.The consistency between the self-reports and the proxy-reports was good. Conclusion The Chinese version of the SAQOL-39g scale demonstrates good feasibility, reliability and validity, and good consistency between the self-reported and proxy-reported versions. It seems suitable for assessing the quality of life of Chinese stroke patients with aphasia.
