Objective To study short-term therapeutic efficacy of mesh & plug repair for gerontal groin hernias. Methods 110 gerontal patients with groin hernia were treated by mesh & plug hernia repair with Mesh & Perfix plug. Results 98 cases(81.8%) were followed up for two years and no recurrence was found. Conclusions The Mesh & Perfix plug is a kind of ideal material for herniorrhaphy especially for gerontal patients or those with other diseases.

Objective To evaluate the value of using ultraharmonic contrast imaging(UHCI) and acoustic densitometry(AD) technique to quantify cortex blood perfusion of acute rejection in renal allograft. Methods The canine models with acute renal allograft rejection were established. The examinations of renal allograft were performed by intravenous contrast ultrasound and AD technique on the days 1,3,5,7,9,11 after transplantation, some parameters related to perfusion such as peak intensity(PI),the area under the curve(AUC),the half time of descending(HT) and the mean transit time(MTT) of renal cortex were measured, and the graft biopsies were done simultaneously. Results The cortex of renal allograft with acute rejection showed nonenhancing defects after contrast agent injection. From 5 to 11 days after transplantation, the PI,AUC,HT,MTT of renal cortex were increasingly decreased, and the 50% wash-out slope was increasingly increased; furthermore, there were significant differences between those of the first day of post-operation(P

OBJECTIVETo study angiogenesis and the expression of nm23-H(1) tumor metastatic suppressor gene in primary breast carcinoma and their relationship with axillary lymph node metastasis.
METHODSIntratumoral vascularization in 80 cases of breast cancer was observed preoperatively by power doppler imaging (PDI) and analysed with computer-assisted quantative assessment, and the expression of microvessel density (MVD) and nm23 protein was determined by immunohistochemical technique.
RESULTSBlood flow signals and blood vessels postitive area within masses were more in axillary node positive (LN+) group than in axillary node negative (LN-) group (t = 7.07, P < 0.01), MVD expression were higher in the LN+ group than in the LN- group (t = 6.34, P < 0.01). Meanwhile the expression of nm23-H(1) protein was lower in the LN+ group than in the LN- group, and significant correlation was found between angiogenesis and the expression of nm23-H(1) protein.
CONCLUSIONSAngiogenesis and the expression of nm23-H(1) protein may play an important role in the lymphatic metastasis process of breast cancer. Furthermore, angiogenesis may correlates with the expression of nm23-H(1) protein in that progress.

In this paper, we prepared a dual functional system based on dextrin-coated silver nanoparticles which were further attached with iron oxide nanoparticles and cell penetrating peptide (Tat), producing Tat-modified Ag-FeO nanocomposites (Tat-FeAgNPs). To load drugs, an -SH containing linker, 3-mercaptopropanohydrazide, was designed and synthesized. It enabled the silver carriers to load and release doxorubicin (Dox) in a pH-sensitive pattern. The delivery efficiency of this system was assessed using MCF-7 cells, and using null BalB/c mice bearing MCF-7 xenograft tumors. Our results demonstrated that both Tat and externally applied magnetic field could promote cellular uptake and consequently the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin-loaded nanoparticles, with the IC of Tat-FeAgNP-Dox to be 0.63 µmol/L. The delivery efficiency of Tat-FeAgNP carrying Cy5 to the mouse tumor was analyzed using the optical imaging tests, in which Tat-FeAgNP-Cy5 yielded the most efficient accumulation in the tumor (6.7±2.4% ID of Tat-FeAgNPs). Anti-tumor assessment also demonstrated that Tat-FeAgNP-Dox displayed the most significant tumor-inhibiting effects and reduced the specific growth rate of tumor by 29.6% ( = 0.009), which could be attributed to its superior performance in tumor drug delivery in comparison with the control nanovehicles.
