AIM: To investigate the role of proliferation and apoptosis in hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and the effect of AT 1 blockade with losartan. METHODS: Left ventricles (LV) from 12, 24-week-old SHR (SHR 12 , SHR 24 ), 24-week-old SHR treated with losartan (15 mg?kg -1 ?d -1 , SHR-L 24 ) during 12 weeks, and age-matched WKY rats (WKY 12 , WKY 24 ) were studied. Expression of PCNA was examined by immunohistochemistry. Apoptotic cells in LV sections were assessed by TUNEL method. Levels of fas mRNA were quantitated by RT-PCR. RESULTS: Compared with age-matched WKY, SHR 12 and SHR 24 showed increased LV hypertrophied index (HI), increased apoptotic index (AI) of myocytes ( P

Objective To investigate two fixation methods for reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)with autogenous patellar tendon graft and their instant stability. Methods 15 specimens were divided into three groups. The first group was treated with 1/3 bone-patellar ligament-bone replacement and in terference screw fixation, the second group was treated with 1/3 bone-patellar ligament and Krackow locked bilateral suture, and in the third group the intact ACL was not treated. The mono-axial tensile tests were performed on a versatile hydraulic material testing machine(WE-5A)to compare the linear load, maximum load, linear straining, maximum straining, linear displacement, maximum displacement, rupture displacement, destructive energy, elastic modulus, and ultimate strength of ACL in the three groups. Results The ACL stability and rigidity in the group of 1/3 bone-patellar-bone replacement and interference screw fixation were higher than those in the other two groups. The differences between test results were statistically significant. Conclusion The ACL reconstruction with 1/3 bone-patellar ligament-bone replacement and interference screw fixation is a good method to ensure higher strength of graft and better joint stability.

The β-sheet peptides can be self-assembled to form different supramolecular solids. The supramolecular solid can be linked to a wide range of functional domains, for example, with cell adhesion sequences, signal domains, and vaccine epitopes to form complex nanostructures, which can be widely used in biomedical fields. In this paper, we mainly reviewed the self-assembly of peptides using β-folding secondary structure to form nanostructures, and discussed the application of nanostructures in drug delivery and tissue engineering.

Objective Identification of anatomic structures are essential for totally thoracoscopic anatomic pulmonary segmentectomies, however sometimes the procedure are difficulty. This study was to assess whether three-dimensional computed tomography angiography(3D-CTA) could contribute to the preoperative arrangement of thoracoscopic complex segmentectomy. Methods Between September 2012 and August 2014, 29 patients were performed thoracoscopic complex segmentectomies under the guidance of preoperative 3D-CTA.The segmentectomies pattern were based on the nodules' diameter, location, and pathology. The targeted vessels and bronchus were marked in preoperative simulated segmentectomies. Results Of the 29 cases, 9 right upper lobe segmentectomies, 13 left upper segmentectomies, and 7 bibasilar segmentectomies were achieved, among which 6 subsegmentectomies were also inclued. The mean lesion diameter, operative time and intraoperative blood loss were(1.35 ± 0.80) cm, (190.53 ± 50.83) min, and (26.90 ± 32.24) ml respectively.Under the guidance of preoperative 3D-CTA , 8(27.5%) nodules were detected accurately, moreover 2(6.9%) aberrant arteries and 1 (3.4%) aberrant bronchus were observed.According to the marked vessels and bronchus preoperatively, 27 (93.1%) arteries, 25 (86.2%)veins,and 29(100%) bronchus were identified and dissected in the operation.Three cases converted to unplanned segmentectomies. No serious complications or death occurred. Conclusion 3D-CTA is an effective tool to enhance security and efficiency in thoracoscopic complex anatomical segmentectomy.

Objective To investigate current status of schistosomiasis control system at the county level and make recommendations to improve the infrastructure adapting to the prevalent condition of the disease. Methods Through pertinently sampling and semi-quantitative questionnaire among the professional workers, experts and administrators in schistosomiasis control, the primary weaknesses involved in the management system and human resources were analyzed. Results 380 questionnaires were distributed, 33 out of 40 were returned from experts/administrators and 285 out of 340 were received from the professionals. In general, the participants acknowledged the effectiveness of the mechanism on anti-schistosomiasis campaign during the past 40 years. It was found that lack of funds for schistosomiasis control and the poor administrative model of anti-schistosomiasis activities were the main barriers to the control. About half of the participants agreed that the policy about merging the county level anti-schistosomiasis facilities into the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDPC) system. The study also showed an inbalanced distribution of the manpower for schistosomiasis control across the endemic regions. The dropout rate of human resources was high due to the poor management and welfare. Conclusion Reforms on the management model should be performed and multiform compensation system should be built in accordance with the prevalence and trends of schistosomiasis.

Objective To find an appropriate r3diobiological model for analyzing the biological effect of the radiotherapy for breast cancer by comparing different results computed by various types of radiobiological models. Methods DVHs database simulating breast conserving radiotherapy was set up,based on clinical DVHs data of the heart.the lung and PTV of 22 patients with early breast cancer given conventional tangential radiotherapy. Two models assessing NTCP of radiation pneumonitis and cardiac mortality and four models assessing TCP were compared by analyzing the effects of the parameters and DVH database input methods on the results. Results When mean irradiation dose of the whole lung was 30 Gy.the incidence of radiation pneumonitis was 32%and 54%predicted by NTCP-RSM model and NTCP-Lyman model, respectively. When 1%cardiac mortality of radiation was assumed,28 Gy and 40 Gy isodose should cover the heart assessed by the two models. The mean TCP were 21.1%.80.8%.38.4%and 41.0%when assessed by LQ-Poisson-TCP,Zaider-TCP,Poisson-TCP and Logit-TCP models, respectively.Setting various differential DVH(dDVH)bins had very few effect on the NTCP/TCP results in a certain model.Adopting physical dose or LQED2 affected the results with greater resu]ts for physical dose.Variation in α or β value, tumor cell density and D50 had significant effect upon TCP results in LQ-Poisson-TCP(P:0.000). Conclusions NTCP-Lyman model is better for predicting the incidence of radiation pneumonitis while NTCP-RSM model is better for predicting radiation-induced cardiac mortality.LQ-Poisson-TCP is the best TCP model for clinical application.Parameters selected for model can significantly affect the results. It is imporrant to understand the distinct characteristics of different models.

Objective:To observe the transfection efficacy and targeting efficiency of hepatitis B virus envelope(HBVE) as a gene transfer vector for liver cancer cells. Methods:HBVE was obtained from the supernatant of HepG2.2.15 cells with a PEG8000 system and ?-propiolactone.The pIRS2-EGFP was packed with HBVE to obtain HBVE-GFP and was packed with liposome to obtain Liposome-GFP.HBVE-GFP and Liposome-GFP were used to transfect human hepatoblastoma cell line HepG 2 to study the transfection efficiency.HepG 2,A 549,HeLa and FB cells were transfected with HBVE-GFP to appraise the targeting ability of HBVE-GFP.GFP protein expression was observed under a fluorescent microscope and the ratio of GFP positive cells was determined by flow cytometry.Results:(1) Transfection efficiency:The GFP protein was observed in both the liposome group and the HBVE group under the fluorescent microscope;the fluorescent intensity in the HBVE group was 3-4 times that of liposome group as determined by flow cytometry(P
