Background and purpose:Bladder carcinoma is the most common tumor in the urogenital system in China. For patients with non-invasive bladder cancer, intravesical therapy is an important part of treatment after complete transurethral resection (TURBt). Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) remains the most effectively used immune agent, and epirubicin (EPI) has been reported to have an improved antitumor activity and high remission rate. However, the results differed significantly from study to study. To compare the efficacy and treatment-induced side effects of intravesical epirubicin versus BCG on postoperative recurrence of non-invasive bladder carcinoma, we completed a meta-analysis of the published literature. Methods:According to the criteria in the paper, we retrieved published comparative studies on intravesical epirubicin versus BCG for non-invasive bladder carcinoma. Data were extracted from each identified paper and Revman4.2 software was used for statistical analysis.Results:6 trials including 1 288 patients were eligible according to the eligibility criteria. Of 657 cases that were treated with epirubicin and 631 with BCG, recurrence occurred in 253 and 184 respectively. Pooling data of a meta-analysis indicated that BCG statistically reduced the incidence of tumor recurrence (Peto OR=1.60, 95%CI=[1.26, 2.03], P=0.000 1). With regard to tumor progression, BCG was also statistically superior to epirubicin (Peto OR=1.70, 95%CI=[1.16, 2.49], P=0.006). 5 studies reported the comparison on main local side effects in terms of hematuria, cystitis or irritative symptoms. Combined results showed that the incidence of hematuria (Peto OR=0.47, 95%CI=[0.35, 0.62], P

Objective To investigate effect of first, second, and third trimester placental factors (PF) on CD4, CCR5, and CXCR4 expression in human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs), and to explore their influence on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) vertical transmission. Methods Human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were treated with first, second, and third trimester PF (concentration 25%) respectively for 24 hours. The expression of CD4, CCR5,and CXCR4 in PBLs, and the percentages of CCR5+, CXCR4+,and CCR5+CXCR4+ cells in peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocytes were determined with flow cytometry. Results All trimester PFs reduced CCR5 expression in PBLs. The efficiency of the first trimester PF was higher than that of the second and third trimester PF. The percentage of CCR5+ cells in peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocytes of PF groups was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the percentage of CCR5+ cells in peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocytes of the first trimester PF group was significantly lower than that of the second and third trimester group. The percentages of CCR5+CXCR4+ cells in peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocytes of PF groups were significantly decreased as compared with the control group, and the percentage of CCR5+CXCR4+ cells in peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocytes of the first trimester PF group was significantly lower than that of the third trimester PF group. Conclusion PF can reduce the expression of CCR5 in human PBLs and peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocytes, indicating that PF might reduce R5 virus infection via preventing HIV entry, and might play an important role in reducing R5 virus intrauterine infection.

Objective To observe the effects of electro-acupuncture ( EA ) on learning, memory and the morphology of hippocampal neural tissues in rats with a model of chronic cerebral ischemia. Methods One hundred and twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. Chronic cerebral ischemia models were successfully established in 104 of them, and those rats were randomly divided into an EA group and a model group with 52 rats each. These were further subdivided into 1,2, 4 and 6 week subgroups with 13 rats in each. The EA group was given EA. The changes in spatial learning and memory ability were observed using a Morris water maze. The morphological changes in hippocampal nerve tissue were observed by HE staining. Results The escape latency in the EA group was significantly different from the model group at the 2nd, 4th and 6th week. The nerve cells in the dentate gyrus were more tightly and consistently lined-up and had rich layers, and the structures in the EA group were better than in the model group. Conclusions EA can improve spatial learning and memory and promote the repair of injury after cerebral ischemia.

Objective To explore a novel strategy to repair traumatic soft tissue defects in the head and face by tissue expansion in the early stage. Methods Eighteen patients with traumatic soft tissue defects were treated with thorough debridement leaving the wound unclosed or simply closed with thin split-thickness scalp skin grafting, and adjacent expander implantation in the early stage and expanded flap transposition in the second stage. Results There were 11 male patients and 7 female patients ranging in age from 3.5 to 40 years [mean,(19.4±12.2) years],with average 15 months follow-up (range,3-67 months). The average expansion time was 74.3 days (range,53-96 days). The total of 18 patients with 22 expanders were treated with satisfactory results. All the flaps survived and the skin color, texture and contour well matched to those of the peripheral tissue.Only one complication of infection happened in the 18 cases (5.56%) and total 22 expanders (4.55%),which was similar to the rate reported in the literature. There were no any other complications related to the expander. Conclusions Debridement and tissue expansion in the early stage have been proved a more effective strategy to repair traumatic soft tissue defects in the head and face, which can not only achieve satisfactory color, unbulky and well matched texture similar to normal, but also can avoid unnecessary donor site injuries and does not increase the infection rate of tissue expansion.

AIM: This study is based on the result of the study in HL and ALCL employing gene chip technique, in which writer found that there was distinctly different expression of caspase-4 between HL and ALCL cell lines at the level of mRNA. From the point of view, we try to identify at the level of protein whether there is different expression of this gene in HL and ALCL tissues as well. METHODS: HE staining, the monoclonal antibodies CD30 (BerH2), CD15 (C3D-1), CD20 (L26) and CD45RO (UCHL1) were used for selecting the cases of HL and ALCL. Specific high affinitive anti-caspase-4 polyclonal antibody was used by immunohistochemical staining to analyze the expression of caspase-4 in 18 cases of HL and 15 cases of ALCL. RESULTS: The expression of caspase-4 demonstrated a strong positive staining in all ALCL cases (15/15,100%), whereas negative in 16 HL cases (88 8%), while other two cases were weakly stained (11 2%), showing a distinct difference (P

The expression of survivin, a member of inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family, was examined in bladder transitional cell cancer (BTCC) tissue and adjacent normal tissues to examine its clinical implication in the development of BTCC. Thirty specimens of bladder cancer were detected for the expression of survivin by using immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-QPCR) in BTCC tissue and adjacent normal tissues. Our results showed that the positive rate of survivin immunostaining specimen were 0 and 60% (18/30) in the adjacent normal tissues, bladder cancer, respectively. The-DeltaDeltaCT value of survivin in bladder cancer tissue was 10.2829 (9.0034-11.5624) times that in the adjacent normal tissues. The expressions of survivin were correlated with the pathological grades of tumor and clinical stages. It is concluded that there was only weak expression of survivin mRNA in the adjacent normal tissues, but the expression of survivin mRNA in bladder cancer tissue was much higher than that in the adjacent normal tissues and the expression of survivin was correlated with pathological grades and clinical stages of tumor.

Abstract: Objective To understand the density changes and seasonal fluctuation of larvae and adults of Aedes albopictus in Hainan Province from 2017 to 2021, and to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of dengue fever and other vector-borne diseases in Hainan Province. Methods The Breteau index method was used to monitor the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes, and the breeding sites of all small indoor and outdoor water containers and their larvae was checked and recorded. The adult mosquitoes were monitored by double lamination and light trap. Results A total of 1 962 adult female Aedes albopictus mosquitoes were captured in Hainan Province from 2017 to 2021, accounting for 2.17% of the total captured mosquitoes. There were significant differences in mosquito species composition in different habitats in different years (χ2=312.258, P<0.01). In 2017, the density of mosquitoes in livestock sheds was the highest (9.71 per lamp·night), but the composition ratio of Aedes albopictus was the lowest (1.29%). In 2020, the mosquito density in hospitals was the lowest (2.22 mosquitoes per lamp·night), and in 2019, the proportion of Aedes albopictus in residential areas and hospitals was the highest (3.27% on average). The mosquito density in different habitats was the lowest in 2020. The proportion of Aedes albopictus in residential areas and livestock sheds showed an increasing trend from 2017 to 2021, while the proportion of other habitats showed significant fluctuations. The proportion of Aedes albopictus in hospitals showed an obvious decreasing trend in 2020. From 2017 to 2021, the average mosquito density was 5.97, 4.26, 3.82, 3.39 and 3.68 mosquitoes per lamp·night, respectively, showing a decreasing trend year by year except 2021. Except for 2019, the lure index also showed a decreasing trend, with an average value of 1.5/(hour·net), showing a decreasing trend year by year. From 2017 to 2021, the annual average density of Aedes albopictus in Hainan Province was 0.09 mosquitoes per lamp·night, showing obvious seasonal fluctuation. The Breteau index showed a slow decline from 2017 to 2021, and its annual peak was between June and August, which was 1-2 months later than the peak of adult mosquito density. Conclusions The population density of Aedes albopictus in Hainan shows obvious seasonal characteristics. Mosquito control activities should be carried out according to the seasonal characteristics of mosquitoes to reduce the risk of dengue fever and other infectious diseases.

Objective To optimize the extraction method of salviae miltiorrhizae madix et rhizoma in Huoluo-Xiaoling granules. Methods According to the contents of Salvianolic acid B and Tanshinone Ⅱ A, the extraction method was established by comparing different solvents (water and 70% ethanol)and extracting modes (compound extraction and single herb extraction). Then orthogonal design was used to determine the optimum extraction method. Results Considering the contents of salvianolic acid B and tanshinone Ⅱ A, 70% ethanol extract was better than water extract and compound extraction was better than single herb extraction. The optimum extraction condition was 70% ethanol in eight times of the herbs weight, extracted for 1h by 3times. Conclusion The extraction method was simple and stable.
