OBJECTIVETo compare the difference in the clinical efficacy on mild and moderate female stress urinary incontinence (FSUI) between transcutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation and oral administration of midodrine hydrochloride tablets.
METHODSNinety cases of mild and moderate FSUI were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 45 cases in each one. In the observation group, the transcutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation was applied to Ciliao (BL 32), Shenshu (BL 23), Zigong (EX-CA 1), Guanyuan (CV 4) and Qihai (CV 6), once a day. In the control group, midodrine hydrochloride tablets were prescribed for oral administration, 2. 5 mg per treatment, three times each day. The duration of treatment was 4 weeks. The score of international consultation on incontinence questionnaire-urinary incontinence short form (ICI-Q-SF) and leakage of urine in 1 h urinal pad test were observed before and after treatment in the patients of the two groups, and the efficacy was compared between the two groups.
RESULTSThe score of ICI-Q-SF and leakage of urine in urinal pad test after treatment were all improved apparently as compared with those before treatment in the two groups (all P<0. 01), and the results in the observation group were better than those in the control group (both P<0. 01). The total effective rate was 86. 7% (39/45) in the observation group, which was better than 68. 9% (31/45, P<0. 05) in the control group.
CONCLUSIONThe transcutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation achieves the better efficacy on FSUI as compared with the oral administration of midodrine hydrochloride tablets. This therapy effectively improves the patient's urine control ability and reduces leakage of urine.

Objective To study the feature extraction methods for the event related potential (ERP) evoked by mental arithmetical tasks through the sample entropy, in order to enhance the features of electroencephalograph (EEG) signals for brain computer interface (BCI).Methods Three types of mental arithmetic tasks including a simple counting, a random number and a stroke of Chinese character counting were proposed and 16 channel EEG signals were recorded from eight healthy subjects. The sample entropy method was then applied in characteristic signal complexity analysis. The characteristic and difference of signal complexity of ERP evoked by three types of mental arithmetical tasks were explored. Results The entropy value for EEG signal evoked by non-target stimulus was higher than that by the target stimulus with the significant difference (P<0.01).The entropy of the mental arithmetic based on the Chinese characters counting task was significandy higher than that of the other two tasks (P<0.05).EEG signals evoked by target/non-target were fundamentally signals under the state of attention or non-attention.Conclusions For the Chinese characters counting task, more complex information have been processed by the brain and the non-linear connection between nerve cells are much more complicated and a higher entropy value is achieved. In summary, the mental arithmetic task can effectively activate the relevant brain regions and the sample entropy can distinguish signals evoked by target or non-target stimuli.

Objective To present a new method of osteotomy for malar complex hypertrophy .Methods The operative procedures was transpositional osteoplasty of the malar complex by coronal approach. A lateral orbital osteotomy began at the level of the frontozygomatic suture line, preserving the lateral orbital rim. It continued far down inferoposteriorly across the zygomaticomaxillary suture line. The zygomatic arch was obliquely cut at 1 cm anterior from the articular tubercle. The bone was not separated from the soft tissue to preserve the blood supply to the zygoma and slid upward, inside and setback. The single microplate, screw and steelwire fixation was done on the repositioned zygomatic body.To zygomatic body prominence,it was obtained a satisfactory effect that only shaved the protruded zygomatic body with chisels by means of an intraoral approach.Operative procedures for reductive malar complex plasty were performed in 12 cases. The patients consisted of 3 males and 9 females whose ages ranged from 21 to 36 years. Results Postoperative follow up for 3~24 months showed satisfactory results using this procedure. Conclusion This modified method has an ideal effect without the possibility of bone resorption of the malar complex.
